  1. I saw on WGI's website where AVON is not participating in WGI events...just Indiana State Gaurd Events...Does anyone know if Miamisburg's World Gaurd is doing same? I see them scheduled for CIncinnati and Mid West Championship for WGI 2012, but they are not on any MEPA or Tri-State schedule???? Thanks
  2. I do not know who Michael James is nor do I care...I do not have any affliation with a gaurd or percussion unit. Even though I grew up in Miamisburg years ago (Band)...I think most guards today are boring...same old same old...just my opinion...it must be easier to uptain copy rights to classical music..hehe, I have said it before, bring back fast paced drill with more unison, marching, dazzle me with upbeat music, high tosses and exchanges, less of the contemporary style dancing (most do not pull it off anyway) Just me, but I get tired of trying to figure out what the director's complicated vision is...just call me a red neck.
  3. I just went back to watch Avon's show on fan network...you are right it is retro in a way...I liked it.
  4. Wishing there would be a guard director in Scholastic World or Independant World in which they would have the courage to bring back an "Old School" show back from the mid '80's...precision drill, huge tosses and exchanges, etc..., examples: Skylarks, Cavs, Miller's Blackhawks, State Street...I think that would be so great...at least for the kids marching and the fans, ...judges- "Probably NOT"
  5. I got the ultimate fan network a couple of days ago...loving it. I can not wait to see the Championships! I am hooking up my computer to my flat screen tv next weekend. Having had the fan network now a few days, I have gone back in the archives and have been able to watch shows again from 1978-present. It has been awesome. I have to say, I wish just one guard director would have enough courage to bring a Scholastic World or Independant World Guard out next year "Old Style"...a guard like we use to see in the mid-'80's...so much excitement and really hard equipment work, precision drill, high tosses and exchanges...examples-Skylarks, Cavs, Miller's Blackhawks, State Street, etc...I think the crowd would go nuts, and I think the kids marching would have fun...problem is the judges would probably hate it.
  6. I would love to wish all the guards this weekend great sucess!
  7. I have a couple of questions that might be answered on this forum. 1. What exactly is the difference between Scholastic Open and Scholastic World? (citeria) 2. Is there a difference in scoring between those classes? (how so) 3. How does a group move up from Scholastic Open to Scholastic World? (qualifications) 4. I have seen some groups drop from Scholastic World to Scholastic Open...how does that happen? 5. What kind of budget (ballpark figure) is needed to sustain such a guard in Scholastic World? (at that caliber) I would imagine that a Guard Director would be paid by the school district? But, I can not imagine what it might cost for a show designer (unless the director would know how to write drill and put a show together), equipment technicians, choreographer, costumes, etc...
  8. The Miamisburg "Winter Guard" has been in existance since 1980. They did not have a winter guard in 1990...so they have been in existance for 30 years. They have been Champions (in their class) of what was formerly known as the Ohio Color Guard Circuit (now MEPA) for 28 of those years...the other two years they placed second. The guard first appeared at WGI in 1983. The Miamisburg Winter guard has been a finalist at WGI since 1984. They have been in the top 10 for 25 years, the top 5 for 8 years, they have won the Bronze Medal 4 times, they have won the Silver Medal 4 times, and they have won the Gold Medal 3 times...having tied with James Logan in 1998. Not to mention all the times they made finals in WGI Regionals over the years, non the less all the Bronze, Silver, and Gold they have won during those Regionals. I sure hope they can pull it off this year and at least make finals. It seems as though the last few years their program has had struggles. Good luck 'Burg! I am an alumni of Miamisburg...not the guard though. I truly believe in them and wish them well!
  9. thank you for the great responces!
  10. Hello...I can not attend WGI in Dayton this year and was wondering what others thought of subscribing to fan network? After looking it over, I thought I would like to get the Ultimate Package. This includes 6 days of championship webcasts. I can hook my computer up to my 47" Vizio LCD TV...I thought this would be nice...I can not attend due to taking chemo...it makes me so sick. Do you think that the money will be worth it? Has anyone else used this service? Thank you for any replies!
  11. Wow...great talent this past Dayton Regional...however, it leads me to wonder if Miamisburg World Gaurd may not make it into finals for WGI in April? It would be their first time not in finals since 1984 or 1985, I believe. Any other thoughts on this?
  12. I am curious how Miamisburg will do this season? Will they be in the top 10?
