Why was there no mid season DVD this year? I am assuming because of the online attempt to cash in on viewers and subscriptions, but that is not good enough reason because I am assuming sales were good last year for the DVD. I mean to produce a DVD is not too expensive. esp. at $20 a pop and you filmed the event anyway. I love how DCI keeps fans from owning the activity. I can not believe there still is no DVDs of div 2&3 or non finalists DVDs from the 70s and up. I mean who would not buy a prelims copy of BD 1989, and don't even get me started on this topic.

Memo to DCI, we all enjoy the online technology, but don't think that some of us will not still want to BUY a hard copy of this activity for our own pleasure and collections.

I was a huge fan of the mid-season DVD last year but I understand that the fan network now takes that role. I also rater buy a hard copy than download and if my only choice is to download, I’ll take a pass. Drum corps on a computer frustrates me and I don’t know how to burn movie files into playable DVDs (even though I hear its really simple on my mac, just need to see it done once…why did you forsake me local mac guru and move to Seattle, your recent middle age spread is my vengeance) !!!!

But I’m not upset about it

Seems DCI is being reasonable and if you want it badly enough, its there for you

I can’t blame DCI because I’m an unwilling luddite or a little lazy

yeah, bummer about the 70s, all the way around really...remember these :innocent:

According to the folks at the DCI office, the costs of securing copyrights and appropriate licensing for the mid-season DVD make it very difficult to break-even on the venture. In light of the limited financial resources and economic challenges that caused DCI to forego other projects such as the television broadcast this year, the decision was made to focus on the production of a high-quality World Championships edition.

That really does not makes sense considering licensing would cost the same whether you produced it for online or dvd sales.

It is my understanding after checking into this that the licensing needed for producing and selling a DVD is not at all the same as the "new media" licensing needed for streaming on the internet.
