Your first DCA Drum Corps video
bariforhire replied to torn8o's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Video? When I started marching Stetson Richmond was the man. I wore out that 78 rpm recording of 1957 Cabs and Reilly. The first video I ever saw of Drum Corps was the 1959 Grey Knights of Rochester, NY recorded on 8mm film by my old friends Wally and Mary Filkins. I hope his son has preserved those old films, they are a treasure. -

QUOTE(rrheinlen @ Feb 21 2006, 04:42 PM) What the heck do I do when I run out of pictures to post? It's getting to be slim pickins! Will I be banished from here forever? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do what a few others do... Post the same pictures over and over again, just in case someone missed them the first or tenth time. -
Hey Donny, Who's that behind you in your avatar pic?

The one and only time I was in Roosevelt Stadium was with St. Joe's of Batavia at the 1963 Preview of champions. I remember it was a grass baseball field, a pretty beat up one at that. When did they install that beautiful astroturf? I have a feeling they referring to the drumline as being a "dream" drumline with 10 snares.

I don't think Sully was even born yet, but his father was the first director and business manager of the corps and is second from the left in the picture. First on the left is Sister Mary Mercy who talked Father Kelly into starting the corps to give the boys something to do and keep them off the streets during the depression.

Remember when you had to use a valve lock for American Legion and VFW contests? -
A Visual Enhancement Catagory is the answer to a lot of the scoring deficiencies in mini corps. This would encourage corps to look a little more interested in their appearance, such as music stands, water bottles, horn position and up and down unison, not to mention the sloppy dress of some of the units. You shouldn't be able to win if you don't care about the visual package you present.
