  1. Eddie, You are too modest. I know of no one who is more supportive of drum corps in the world. all divisions. Not only do you give support with every post (always positive) for every corps, but when you were in Portland you always helped in any way the corps could use you. No task was above or benith you. I miss that you are not around here anymore in body, but we still feel your support. Pete
  2. Steve, Thanks for the date change info. It would have been a long trip to practice alone on a street corner, not that Im above that sort of thing. I will contact Ron to carpool. He was one of the ones going to San Antonio. The new music looks great. one of my all time favorites from the 70s, and that arranger, I guess he will do. ( Again, one of my all time favorites) See you soon Pete
  3. Steve, Looking good. I will be at the next practice on the 29th. Anyone else from Portland needing a ride, let me know Pete
  4. Miss you Eddie. Hope you are having the time of your life Pete
  5. The Oregon Crusaders could not be prouder of Mike and Lewis for what they have done for the Oregon Crusaders, and congratulate them on the opportunity to work with the Seattle Cascades. Drum corps is a family, and the Oregon Crusaders and Seattle Cascades have always supported each other in the past and look foreword to the same in the future. The Crusaders BODs are now in the process of looking for our future director. We have no announcements, unlike Seattle, Because we just recently learned of our needs. We are going foreword with the plans for 2007 and beyond. We have had a great run growing into the corps we are, and see nothing preventing the organization from continuing this growth to bigger and better horizons in the future. Our plans have not changed. We will continue to offer the best opportunity for our members, staff and community. Thank you all for your positive thoughts and posts Pete Ohlmann Member Oregon Crusaders BODs
  6. You get two great corps and one very cool purple souvie lady.
  7. We did however have a new soprano player join last week. He came in his renegade jacket ^0^ .Also I found out about a cymbal player that will be ours soon. He was at the practice facility today and is looking foreward to "crashing" our party. See you soon Pete
  8. My first drum corps bugle had one valve. When I became a lead sop, I was given one of the two valve/rotory horns the corps owned. I hear tv's have color too. Oh well it's time for me to walk to school 6 miles, in the snow, up hills, both ways. Pete
  9. Steve, We are going to do a little marching to drum cadences, followed by a bally-hoo style stand still. we have 10 or so tunes street ready. A march, an Irish tune, Some beer drinking music, and it looks like we will have the instrumentation to do a military medely. All easily recognizable tunes without very many suprises, There is an oportunity to go inside for some liquid refreshment, so we might just take a break halfway through the playlist and partake. See you soon Pete
  10. Hey Bruce, I got a call Thursday morning about alot of sheet music that was in the street that the office manager had to pick up. I think we will need to plug in the copy machine. In the mean time, may I suggest long tones and lip slurs Pete
  11. Just an update from Portland, where we have been practicing every week and have had one or two performances a month for a while. Last night we played indoors for a march-in and also did the national anthem. Our numbers were light, but all sections were represented, so a good balanced sound was delivered. Since this was indoors, having some members not there was perhaps better for the audience sitting nearest to us. On Sept. 4th, we played outdoors for an open house/ neighborhood party. We had a larger turnout, but had some tempo issues, which were worked out at the next practice. In July, we played at a picnic of around 500 people, again with a good turnout for us, perhaps our best performance to date. We have a horn instructor, Craig Mottaz, with roots from southern California in the 60s to 70s era, including the Kingsmen. He has arranged some songs for us which have a lot of low brass features. The only problem is...... we are short on low brass. WE HAVE SOME ROOM FOR YOU. we meet every Wed night 7-9pm in Willsonville and would love any and all tallents, and any ages ( if anyone marching in a jr corps is bored this time of year, come on by) If you have not touched a horn in more years than you would like to admit.... we want you. Most of us had taken many years off and now are having a great time slowly getting some of the old talents back. We even have a mellophone player who was given a 3 valve mello to play, who gave it back because she has no idea what to do with the third valve. She plays her old valve/rotory mello and is having the time of her life. Our next performance is on October 15th outdoor ( may the rain gods have mercy) It is an informal parking lot gig to entertain a food caravan that starts in Idaho and ends up in Willsonville for a day to load donated food onto semi trucks to be delivered to the Shrine Hospital for Children. Its a feel good day, in a relaxed setting. Feel free to PM me for practice locations and any further info needed. Pete
  12. If I have 3 DII/III tickets, does that equil one divI finals ticket?
  13. Bruce, How is the trip going? What shows? what corps? I will see you Tuesday in Brockton. We are getting a little antsy and excited for the trip Pete
  14. My two sops (single valve with rotary) were thank yous from an American Legion Post I used to play taps for on Memorial day. The corps they sponsored was no longer active and the horns were just in storage taking up space. My wife was bribed with a similar vintage mellophone when a french horn player, who was going to play echo taps with me, got stranded at a corps camp when Mt St Helens blew, and she steped in and played my echo that year. I have a new Kanstul on order. Kanstul seems to think I dont deserve it for free. They want cash.....the nerve.
