boston with another visual treat of a show. i just have to say how much i appreciate every instance of corps proper mimicing waving water without a follow-the-leader body movement thing. how on earth do you even program that?
flo trying to blow my speakers out with the bass drums in the shanty.

blooooooo!
took me a bit to pick my jaw up off the floor.
that is my favorite performance by any corps so far this year. lyrical, vibrant, and powerful all at the same time. and UNIQUE in every sense of the word.
i don't know about best anything, but that is one of my favorite guard programs ever.
this makes me wish they still devoted cameras to each section like on the old blurays where you could watch the guard and battery cams. there's just so much!

this is the first time i can actually see some of bloo's tarps without glare, especially the middle. but the ones on the left and right are still pretty shiny. are they all more of a matte finish live with human eyes?

crown with a legendary ballad to me. sounds like a fully-produced record every time. truly astounding.
the rest of the run felt a little tentative to me. i think they'll throw it down tomorrow and sat.

Can we petition for a 4-way tie for 5th?
part of me is not wanting to see comments on here after scores are announced for all of these corps in the 5-9 range, but yeah, i'm still reading them.
and something tells me it could all end up different tomorrow night and then sat night. gonna be wild.

i feel like mandarins didn't have a great run overall. some intonation issues that i only heard early on in the season. but a lot of the exposed brass stuff in the opener is a lot cleaner than it was when I last saw them in atlanta.
i still love how each movement flows into the next so seamlessly.

i feel like phantom having 4 big speakers on the front line impacts how they sound on streaming setups vs in person to at least some degree.
same with mandarins, really. they have that veneer sound too on stream.

phantom '23 feels like if '93 and '95 had a baby with a couple nucleotides from '08 thrown in.
THANK YOU PHANTOM

Some dirt in that trombone. The good kind.
that's what they've been going for all season. all about getting the "bendiness" to match up between the bone and the rest of the ensemble. perfect!

trombone solo and ensemble just F'N NAILED THAT INTRO.

Quite the difficult and exposed drill in the closer. Very hard to keep clean.
bringing run and gun back lol.
and i loved the percussion just standing with their backs turned during the ballad. like what you gonna do about it?
i feel like the cadets are going to be my favorites at combining old with new in drum corps for the next good while.

haven't seen the cadets since san antonio either. that performance barely resembled the one i saw a few weeks back. wow! the snare and tuba feature in the movement after the ballad is a favorite musical moment of the year for me.
guard work feels so classic cadets, especially the flags.

there's so much to love in the cavies show. some nice brass moments, the percussion speaks for itself, and i feel like the music ensemble writing and programming is a huge strength of this corps. the back half of the show loses clarity for me, especially musically, though i love the homage to past shows.
the guard with the white flags in the middle of the corps along with the run and gun drill at the end got me.
i'm not being negative with what i'm about to say, so please don't read it like that.
i think it's safe to say the cavies are in a rebuilding phase, and I would love to see them hold off on all or mostly original music in the near feature. saucedo has shown he can take themes and ostinatos form great works of others with similar writing styles to his (mctee and daugherty in 2000 for example) and make them into a cavies special. i feel like in a rebuilding time period that would work better.

haven't seen the cavies since san antonio. cannot wait to see how the last half of the show has evolved. and if the front is cleaned up even a little it's going to be amazing.

not sure what else people want from a music and visual production on a football field.
just a pretty show from top to bottom with one of the best ballads they've ever done.
and then they just go off in the last couple mins.
GORGEOUS brass sound. especially the low brass which is overtaken by synth goo for so many corps. the baritone solo to start off is pure velvet, and then the bari and tuba features in the opener are just stunning. gets me emotional for real.
bravo blue stars!

man, blue stars brass have upped their intensity. still a super balanced and wonderfully symphonic sound, but just hitting it harder now. love love love. and i know the show just goes up another level in the last few mins. this is going to be nice.

thank you to posters in here who are able to praise a corps without the need to trash another. that's gross. adults should be better than that, imo.
cannot wait for the rest of the night. it's going to be fun!

love the subtle rhythmic variety they've added to the syncopated horn stuff since i last saw them.
the battery, my goodness.
and the taste and sensibility in the brass book and rep choices...not many corps would be brave enough to only play a major triad 4-5 times in 12 minutes. makes the ending even more epic.
troopers in my personal top 6 again. thank you!

Troopers have been underrated since the beginning of the season. I've believed in this one just as much as last year when people weren't giving them the respect they deserved early on. I've been rah rah for their entire music production since day 1, but hoping to see them have a great visual run. Been a couple weeks for me. Super excited.

Love the whole Colts show, but the back half just hits me good in so many ways, especially the focus on percussion. I love their use of pastels throughout. Takes a good editing eye for that not to be visually cloying.
I"m sure it's just the production set up, but literally the only bass I hear is synth. Zero tubas, so that bums me out.

That final form in the opener looks so much like the Atlanta Faze gaming symbol, lol. I know it's the Colts symbol, of course.
I love this ballad!
-
First time seeing BK in almost a month and there's a lot more clarity both visually and musically.
Haven't seen any corps since Atlanta. I'm pretty stoked.

So nobody bit from my intel request. Aching to see Bloo. Haven't seen them since Atlanta, but I've heard they've really stepped up performance since then. CANNOT WAIT.

2015, it's my understanding Crown had a bad run finals night, coupled with BD laying down one of their best runs of the season.
I loved that Crown show and wanted it to win very badly. The SF performance was sublime.
