  1. Actually, everybody is correct here...... I remember that the classifications were not standardized (in name) across the country. Here in the midwest, we were competing as a Class"A" corps by national standards(Open, Class A Class B etc....) although in our local curcuit we were classified as "Open" In other parts ofthe country, the designations were different, using only "A" "B" and "C" and not using the "Open" class. There were some areas that used that the "Junior" and "Senior" titles for corps even though all corps involved were what we consider"juniors" Confusing? ............Yeh, the good old days! :P
  2. The dinosaur in me would love to see that Mike! Problem is, there aren't any VFW contest officials to give coronaries to by doing it anymore!! :P
  3. Pretty ambitious sounding project, but WOW! I hope they can get this this off the ground and I wish them the best of luck!! :)
  4. First "video" I ever saw was a video of our own show in 74 that was recorded on one of those monsterous reel to reel video recorders that were used in that time. Prior to that, every year we would show "The Troopers are Coming", "Competitive Drum Corps"(after 73) and another movie that the Cavies made in the 60s(can't remember the title) at recruting functions. The first video I owned would have been one of the early 80s finals on VHS.....I bought a whole bunch of em' at the same time, so I can't say which was first. As for audio...who remembers the days when you were allowed to take tape recorders into shows? I had the entire 73 DCI Finals on cassette that I recorded from the stands!
  5. That was so bad it was almost funny.......ya think Carmine may have been just a little "under the influence"??
  6. Happy Birthday to our resident rifle goddess! Now we just have to get you in one of those powder blue cadets next year!! :)
  7. Wow! I had that game! I don't remember who made it though. Unfortunately, it and almost all of my other Drum Corps memorabilia (photos, jackets, just about everything I had from when I marched) were lost in a fire in the late 80s :(
  8. According to corpsreps, (and this is what I remember also from that night in Birmingham)... 1. Blue Devils 90.60 2. 27th Lancers 90.25 3. Bridgemen 90.05 4. Spirit 89.80
  9. 81 Bridgemen.... In the "Bigtop" opener, the keyboards were juggling ball while the dancing bears were doing their thing, and the clowns were running around and........................ :)
  10. If this thread gets much bigger, it's gonna have to be it's own site!! :P I had a few days off last week and decided to start back at page 1 again.......took me 2 1/2 days to get through it all!
  11. Me too......the history here is too importanat to let all those old photos sit around up the attic (or wherever :) ) collecting dust. If you don,t have a scanner, PLEASE contact one the folks here that do(myself included) and we will be more than happy to get your pictures up and returned to you! :)
  12. They went downhill as soon as Kobe started singing. :P ^0^ <sorry...couldn't stop myself>
  13. Don't feel alone! There are so many people from my Glassmen days that don't have anything to do with the activity anymore also. Even with a big push by the Alumni Assoc. because this year is the 45th for the corps, many folks just don't want to get involved anymore, for whatever reason. Like RobH said, there are many different reasons why they choose to remain on the "sidelines" :(
  14. Or send em' to someone who has one if you don't!!......They will be returned!!
  15. Chuck, marched for ya years ago, and I'm really happy to see you putting stuff up here! This thread means a lot to a lot of people from "back in the day" It was started over a year ago, and has never been off page 1 of the Historical forum, rarely dropping below the top 10 at any given time. There is so much history here! Thanks for taking part! For those interested, Old Ohio also has some excellent sites that deal with the history of both junior and senior corps in Ohio........and a very rich history it is! check the links in his sig, and make sure to check out all the sites, there are many. Thanks again Old Ohio!! ^OO^ *personal note to Old Ohio- in case you are still trying to remember who I am, do you remember Walt Brady?....I'm his smart ### little brat son. Walt Yeager, Doug Kretzer, Bill Farkas and that whole crew were the ones who taught me about drum corps..........I learned from the best!*
  16. It still goes down as the most exciting year ever to be a part of drum corps, IMHO of course! What a summer, eh, LancerFi? :)
  17. No Way.....Argonne is gonna sneak up on all of em'!HUH?...... Oh......... Oops, sorry, wrong decade.
  18. Kingsmen StarCorps. Why?.....It's the Kingsmen, what other reason is there? EDIT: Didn't realize it till after I posted that the original poster forgot to name the first DCI Champion in his list, so I guess I'll have to take back my choice(begrudgingly) because the Kingsmen HAVE in fact won the title before. Guess I'll have think this over for a while now................................................
  19. Definately! I've sent them a lot of stuff regarding the missing years for the Gmen. For those who don't know, the whole site depends on the input of the people out there to give them reps, scores, etc.... :)
  20. Actually, they date back to 63, the year the Anaheim Explorer Scouts split into the Vevet Knights and the Kingsmen.Unfortunately, Corpsreps only lists years that they have info on....For instance, the Glassmen date to 1961(formed as the Maumee Suns), but you would never know it from that site.
  21. Very possible Mike. I remember them doing it in the early 70s with the "New York, New York" fanfare and the whole bit. :)
