  1. I'm very happy with Cavaliers progress. Sorry for not posting, but I'm living this celebration!

They really didn't have time to practice much with the Gala last night and the rain today but they made big strides in the show alteady.

Working overnight and red meat are also possible carcinogens according to the WHO's IARC.

I don't drink diet drinks, and avoid artificial sweeteners where possible (they just don't taste good), but labeling something as a possible carcinogen doesn't mean it poses an actual risk under normal circumstances. Aspartame is one of the most studied substances in the food supply.  It's probably best to wait and see what the IARC's full evaluation actually shows.

Aspartame breaks down quickly in your gut into phenylalanine , aspartic acid and methanol. The first two are amino acids people consume all the time and is present in a lot of foods in larger quantities than you'd get from aspartame. Methanol is simple alcohol, something else people consume all the time from eating fruits and vegetables.  Of course none of that means it's 100% safe, biology is crazy, but unless you have phenylketonuria or you're consuming an ungodly amount of this stuff it's probably not something to worry about.

If you wanted to go full conspiracy, you could say the sugar industry is behind this new designation. 😆

So the WHO is worthless is your assumed point? That was just one example I read about from this week.

Oh really. Do tell us these conspiracies… I’m all ears,

One was a conspiracy  theory about aspartame being unhealthy, yet  approved by the FDA during the  Reagen administration as being safe. Despite many conspiracy claims that it was unhealthy, People laughed at the conspiracy until now, where scientists and the WHO have concluded that aspartame is in fact dangerous.

I'll just leave that one as an example, but there are a bunch more. This isn't the forum for that.

Conspiracy happens, so 🤷.  Try not to be totally dismissive or you could be on the short end of a laugh when everything is said and done.

    Cheers

Davis won the black hat at our table. And then smiled, stated “I have three of these” and gave it to the parents of 2 MM.

Will you be at Lisle tonight? If so, would love to say hello!

I will, not up top, but I'll be on the field to collect my white gear tonight after the show!

Was at the 75th anniversary last night. Several takeaways lead me to believe that the Green Machine will rise quickly to the top of the Cavaliers-Phantom- Bluestars-Cadets- Mandarins tier.

    1. They marched double digit holes in Muncie.

    2. They spent their last week of move ins indoors due to smoke.

    3. The MM’s I spoke with to a man shared their “first run” issues with me and acknowledged it was a tough first go.

    4. I heard a full standstill of the show. Granted not moving makes it easier. But when they clean this show they’ll be knocking on the top 5 door they’ve been accustomed to since 2016, save the COVID-infested journey of 2022.

    5. In spite of all the above, they hung in with Bluestars with a week less field time. Stars will be in the rear view mirror by San Antonio. Phantom by Atlanta. Cadets by Allentown.

You  know I’m a homer. I just see way more demand out their show, and it’s dirty as Pigpen … it’s gonna polish up into a Diamond.

I was there too and can corroborate much of that.

They sound lights out better during their run inside.

They were stuck indoors for several days with the level of smoke in the area making it too unhealthy.

    First show jitters.

They are also pretty exhausted. There are lots of transfers from other corps too. People new to the Cavaliers, but having marched in other corps in the top 13 from last year.

There were lots of holes in Muncie too.

The Gala was a great time!

I was sitting at table 87 and got a black Cavalier hat to take home! Lucky me!

Agreed. This design is nuanced, classy and subtle but incredibly hard both visually and musically. I think the judges will score this show well when clean. Excited to see the additions as the season progresses. Equally excited for the edits as well.

...and an ending. I'm sure that'll be added.

Could have taken the 2000 approach and saved the diamond cutter for finals week. But I still really enjoyed the show. I won’t name the other groups people are placing ahead of them that could not keep my attention.

Several groups could not keep my attention.

Is playing Somewhere and Somewhere Over the Rainbow (yes I get the latter) in the same show modern? Sorry, I've seen that done by about 100 high schools.

Somewhere is probably a nod to the 3x WGI Cavaliers winterguard champions.

The way the music is arranged is more modern, the tunes are personally from the corps to the alumni.

One of the Mandarins buses broke down last night on their way from Sacramento to SoCal. The corps was stuck in Fresno for several hours. Got a text from my son that they finally arrived at their housing site (Moreno Valley High School) at 3:45am PDT.

Plus the city of Moreno Valley had a fire that burned about 12 acres yesterday around two miles from the school. Hopefully air quality won't be an issue as they prep for tonite.

Heading over to the school around 1130am to see them.

    Godspeed

Shorter season than normal. Maybe preferable to come out the gate with less dirt than usual or gotta hope you have a gem of a show that won't need too many changes.

Nah, better to get a whole show out and clean than most of a show that is a little cleaner...

I have ears and teach in this profession, I’d like to think I have somewhat of a knowledge of what brass sounds like.  Maybe I should have said music analysis which is more from the box.

I am kinda sick of any kind of negative observation being met with “well you weren’t there and are too stupid to judge so you wouldn’t know”.  It’s annoying and always a cheap shot.

I thought Blue Stars sounded much better tonight, sorry you don’t agree.

And I don’t really take that seriously from the one behaving like an absolute toddler on the Madison Scouts thread.

Yeah, you're a straight shooter.  Cavaliers are dirtier, but I believe that their ceiling is higher once cleaned. Maybe a little rework here and there.

You definitely have the knowledge and experience to have a well formed opinion 👍

Cavies have a hard show, visually, with difficult drill. Drill is hard, who figured?

Lots of new guys in the hornline too. This was a first show for many.

...and loads cleaner than last week.

    Have no fear!
