    not always feasible.

and again the post you quoted was referring to the regional model. quick....how far is the closest corps to Troop? Seattle? Spirit? Crossmen? Should Crossmen wait til Texas or OK shows to be regional? Seattle..well.....uh....? Troop? Wyoming host shows anymore? Hell for Surf, outside of maybe an Open Class show or two early, there's no WC shows in NJ til close to Allentown.

    No idea.

Well. not no one, but far less than leaving.

I left California, but people are moving there unlike what someone says, and I'd move back for the right job that pays a high dollar amount. I'm just extremely tired of all the nut jobs trying to pick on California due to obvious political reasons...

Costs are high everywhere; fuel is even more of an issue there, but the whole tour isn't there...

As far as the Cadets taking a year off, I have no idea how this relates to that topic.

The days of "keep the kids off the streets" drum corps have been gone for decades, now. I'd even venture to guess that a majority of the membership of the the top corps are all music, performance, and dance majors. I don't think you would find anyone who is marching in the Blue Devils who is going into a career outside of music, dance, and the like. It has become a niche activity that caters to a specific group of individuals.

I know this to be false.

Not sure why three people laughed. This is one of the most realistic and possible predictions, IMO.

Not everyone can move up, so I don't see anything worth laughing at with these predictions.

Whelp, Cadets are out. SCV coming back that high is suss ( suspect), Regiment dropping too much probably won't happen. Blue Stars will probably bounce back.  Boston dropped a couple of spots this year and I think Bluecoats are going to be better than them next time based mostly on show design. Mandarins at 5th would be nice, but let's see.

    Soooooo, that's why I laughed.

But you'd think he'd wait on that until Carolina Crown officially announces this on their official Corps website and with his picture and bio there.... no ? So who knows who Crown's Program Coordinator there will be for 2024 after Rick Subel left that position there after this past season. I'm sure this will all be squared away in time, but it is mid October now, and no official word as to who will be heading up their show program there at Carolina Crown for the upcoming season.

We're not involved, so I'd imagine that I wouldn't opine about what others choose to do in this instance. I dunno. I like to generally mind my own beeswax, so I try not to speculate.

I get that it is a competitive activity and all, but the way the activity can treat some people when things don't work out, even when there is no abuse involved, can be pretty distant from the overall ideal of being an educational opportunity for youth first and foremost. Especially when kids are paying several grand for the privilege.

Wait till you learn what actual colleges do when things don't work out.

It's even more distant than what I've seen described here.

Since it's October and we're just making 100% biased lists here's my groupings in no particular order for each grouping of three:

    Top 3- BD, Cadets, Bluecoats

    4-6- Boston, Crown, Cavaliers

    7-9- Mandarins, Phantom, SCV

    10-12- Colts, Troopers, Blue Stars

I think Cadets has been doing fantastic since their staff turnover in 2021, and with some major changes being made as needed in 2023 I really feel like they're set up to spring back into the Top 3. I think Cavaliers are making a lot of changes with their brass and color guard, and that in combination with their Sanford winning percussion puts them in a great spot for 6th. I think SCV is going to have a hard time coming back and won't quite make the Top 6, but could be close in 7-9 (although it'll be hard with how promising Mandies and Phantom have been lately). Then I think we see Colts, Troopers, and Blue Stars continue to fight it out in the lower half of finals and knocking BK back out (although I think Colts has the potential to compete with whoever's in the 8 and 9 slot this year).

This is literally all just guesses since there haven't been any major staff announcements made yet other than some corps confirming they're keeping the same staff they previously had. I think we'll have a better picture around Christmas of which corps have a good chance of moving around, and then from there we won't know until the season starts.

Cavaliers got a new drill writer too, which I think will help them. Actually, the Cavaliers have been making major staff announcements. The corps above them haven't as much, but most of those staff are staying put.

Madison got a new drill writer too.

I think it would be cool & Dan could interview her on the sideline.  Or maybe she could set up a live cam in a suite?  Wait, never mind.  Copyright issues...

Edit: been clicking on the play arrow for a about a minute until I read the premiere time.  I'm not a smart man... :spitting:

Who is this Dan you're talking about?

    You mean, Nate?

Inclusive… sure, mostly.  Diverse?  Not even close.  It’s not affordable enough to promote diversity. And all the corps who were actually bringing diversity to the activity are gone.

I marched 96-01, I can count the members who weren’t white in all groups I marched on my fingers and toes.  I can count non white educators on 2 fingers.

as an educator, I’m not the diversity drum corps needs. But While numbers are better, in the decade I taught I can still count non white members on fingers and toes, and non white educators I’ve worked alongside on 8 fingers.

is it better? Sure. Is it good enough? Nope.

Columbus Saints comes to mind. I see diversity increasing. Now, we just need some groups who don't have to spend a ton to be a part of DCI, yet still get an on-the-field performance...

I am from Ohio and it has always been bizarre for me to go back there. I feel so out of place now but I have cover as a white male native.

Same here. It's "home" yet also foreign after living all over the USA, and especially the South and the West. Heck, the East has a different vibe as well.

I was mainly referring to the prior champions' ability to remain among the top 12 finalists in the world, and they have done that quite well.  In 2017, 7 of the top 9 corps were past champions, and all 8 remaining past champions were in finals.....yeah, it's 6 years ago, but one season since then did not happen due to COVID, and one was an exhibition.

I think your "bar/definition"  for a "down cycle' is much more miniscule.............you mention BD, but the combination of two things keep them rocking year after year.......(1) more veterans from other finalists as well as other top 20 corps go to the Blue Devils than to any other corps. (2) They have a competent veteran staff that they have been able to maintain

If Madison rebounds back into finals, it then becomes very likely that all 8 prior champions are in finals.....quite dominant as a group........

Ah, ok. Well true, and I do hope that Madison gets back into finals soon. It is quite impressive that these remaining corps have been that dominant.

I still think about how Regiment almost dropped out before COVID-19, and how that would be psychologically tragic to this line of thought, but they turned it around thank goodness.

I still think about how BD has just been gangbusters since their inception and continues to be so dominant though. They can't maintain that level forever, but I think they'll always be in finals (as long as there's a DCI), which supports your assertion.

He came and sat with us semi-finals night and watched BDs run with us. He told us then that he coming back to the Mandarins in 24 and will age out there in 25. He didnt even have to think about it. He said there is no other place he would rather be. He loves the staff, his fellow corps-mates, the culture, the way they treat people etc. He has definitely found a home there, and my wife and I couldnt be happier.

He wants to be part of the first corps to bring a medal to the Mandarins at the WC level. And I can assure you they are talking about it.

There are a few other things that I know, but I will wait till it becomes public knowledge. But know this.........

    Sinnerman was just the beginning.

Next up "The Nun" the drumcorps show! What an Insidious run that was!

I suspect you'll be waiting a good long while...

? Long while? It's been a long while...

Maybe, maybe not... People (staff) get old and die. People move on. People get other opportunities. Sometimes people grow up in California and move to the UK.

Anything can, will, and does happen. I'm just trying to add to the discussion. I don't think they'll drop out of finals. Noone ever thought that SCV would take a year off. Noone would have thought the Cavaliers would be in 9th place. Noone thought that Cadets would have a down several years. Noone thought that Madison would actually drop out of finals. No one thought DCA would die.  Here we are....
