I think that's an overly-simplistic way to look at it. No judge is viewing the show as old-fashioned, and especially not for the amount of drill present - the 7 units above them have tons of drill that is interspersed with choreography, not the other way around, and mountains of fleshed-out melodic material, if that's what you're implying by the Michael Bay film note. It's just not a show that heads anywhere new, interesting (other than to alumni), or unique, and that has nothing to do with the amount of drill. It's not my favorite Cavies show, especially when compared to their 2016-2019 trajectory upward of fresh & current shows, but I get that it's a special year. It means a lot to alum, and that's fine. More importantly, the members have CLEARLY sucked all of the blood and marrow and passion they can out of this show, and that is a fantastic sight to see. It makes me, and I assume most fans following the activity, wonder what these guys can do next year when they aren't as harnessed by a design that is constrained by an anniversary year. To me, the corps feels a bit like Phantom in 2019 with Joan - a nice offering that every member performed the absolute snot out of, but I think we were/are more excited to think of what the talented members performing a flawed show could do with a product that meets the occasion and actually propels them forward.

That said, similar to Phantom in 2019, I will very much enjoy watching every member of the corps proper push this show as far as it can go tomorrow, as they have done diligently the past two performances. This corps has truly figured out how to perform.

Ith the old school comment, I was just going by the opinions of people talking to me at finals, and also some judges who've I spoken to who actually judged DCI shows this year.

  2. ...and they're sniffing a 92. That's an incredible score and nothing to be ashamed of!

The problem with the ge is the perception that this show is old fashioned because it has "drill" and the music isn't a Michael Bay film every 5 seconds. It's a journey and those of us more familiar and connected with the Cavaliers rep history get more out of the show.

I can think of 5 ideas that would together add a point to the show, but that's not how this works.

Next year will be better. This year, we finish this show and we alum celebrate the amazing gift received from the current brothers in the corps.

Wife and I are on our way to LAX to catch our flight to Indy. Attending our first finals ever! We are so excited!

We will head over to Mandarins rehearsal site this evening.

Looking forward to meeting the DCP family this week. Going to be a great time.

    Safe travels to everyone.

    LFG MANDARINS!

Be safe! Maybe I'll see you there!

Will be at rehearsal tonight weather permitting. See you Green Machine fans around Indy. Thoughts and prayers out to Hook'em.

    Go Cavaliers!

Yeah, the weather is rainy in Bloomington, so I'm sure if I will drive North to their practice site if it rains.

Last night they ran and tweaked the first 2/3rds of the show and I assume today they'll continue cleaning and layering.

Is it his job?  Or does he volunteer his time.  Not that it matters all that much anyway.  Given this IS a youth activity, can we not cut someone some slack especially for something not all that critically important in life?  I thought one thing we were all getting from our experience with Covid is to be a little kinder, a little more compassionate.

That's not the message I've gotten after all of his Covid business, but it's my personal stance on everything.

These are my predictions from June 27th. Other than mandarins and Blue Stars being quite off, not too shabby

    1. Blue Devils

    2. Carolina Crown

    3. Bluecoats

    4. Boston Crusaders

    5. Phantom Regiment

    6. Cadets

    7. Cavaliers

    8. Blue Stars

    9. Troopers

    10. Mandarins

    11. Colts

    12. Blue Knights

    You did great!

Of course, the 1-4 is still a toss-up, and 5-8 ( or 7 for you) are toss-ups too.

Wow. Same score in Pittsburg as Allentown. Mandarins in Cincinnati tonight. Will be interesting to see what happens. Percussion is killing it!

Different judges and this is as much art and science. Improvements are being made, but that doesn't always get reflected in the score.

Each day is a new day.

Merging the SCV talent into other finalist corps is surely a big reason.

No, no, no. The corps don't support the assertion that SCV members went to other corps making them better. ..and we've also been told that the percussion section sat out this year en masse so that's 30 something less people to go to other corps to start with.

    I did.

I never know where to rank some of these corps.

Last year, I thought the Blue Stars' show was like a run-on sentence with little emotional variance between moments, but the guard and horn line were excellent, so they pulled big numbers.

This year, I thought they had a smoking hornline, but the show hasn't panned out as I thought it would.
