Many of us have questioned the Texas tour given the increasing heat experienced around this time of year. But if it's assumed that San Antonio has to happen on the third or so Saturday of July, then at least get out of the state directly after. Why linger around and expect students to practice in this heat? Have the Mesquite and McKinney shows the week before San Antonio and head north!

It was 98 degrees in Northern Wisconsin, near the UP of Michigan today.  At the same time that it was 98 there, it was 100 in San Antonio.  Not a big difference in temperatures.  If I wasn't currently in SA still, I would have agreed with you, but it's kinda a wash...

Mandarins are playing with house money. Out of everyone currently in the top 7, Mandarins are the only one that wasn't supposed to be here.

They had their highest regional finish ever last night, they are four points higher than at this point last season, and their highest score ever in world class 90.013 (2022 finals night) is about to be obliterated.

Phantom and/or Cadets passing them for 5th is not a diss or a bad thing. The simple fact that we are TALKING about those corps possibly passing Mandarins for 5th is a major accomplishment.

Of everyone in the top 7, Mandarins have nothing to lose as again no one thought they would be here. They need to just let loose, throw everything and the kitchen sink at this show, and whatever happens, it's all good.

Cause at the end of the of the day, anything higher than 10th at finals, is another record breaker in their corps history.

Mandarins dominated Open class for years! It was only a matter of time before they rose, and with Freelancers and SCV gone from CCal, they're a natural replacement.

Good thing they still judge the whole corps. Yeah … that’s a repeat from last night. But if the same comments are going to be made over and over about “Percussion carrying the corps” I guess I can keep repeating this.

And this: The only staffing that remained after last season was Percussion.

New brass members. New brass staff. Go figure. And still only a point and a half out of the melee of 5-7 with 3 weeks left.

I don't get the disdain for the show.

I mean, their drill hasn't been spectacular since Gaines left.

Brass is down, but they lost an all star brass staff and have young blood coming from other corps. The musical writing is top notch.

Guard numbers are better than last year, and they're using new staff there too.

Percussion is killing it, and they have tasty notes all around.

I feel the GE is great, but more could be added. I just don't know what generates GE these days.

The show  connects with me, and flows.

    Sorry?

I mean, I want them to dominate and all, but I don't see any corps with drill that great anymore.

I hear lots of great playing by so many corps.

I guess it's natural to kick a champion while they're down...

I guess everyone  should just Continue...

I still don't think the sky is falling.  There are almost 3 weeks left, and score increases from the top corps are going to slow down. We can't go over 100.

Some shows are going to stall, others will rise...

What might really be effective is if they marched with technique from the time. Not realistic since they intertwine so many melodies, but pre whenever, they weren't bicycling. But the straight leg does seem like a mismatch give they pretty much invented the bicycle step, didn't they?

Madison and SCV have also used bent knee.

Mandarins can make another statement tonight vs Blue Stars and Cavies as they are performing in the second time slot.

If the Mandarins beat those two heavyweights tonight, is it still west coast inflation, or is it 125 miles from Louisiana border inflation?

I'm still hearing some blending problems in the brass, especially low brass.

Great job! Mandarins! We are witnessing history in the making!

  6. I'm traveling to Mesquite now, and only heard the show on Flo. Sounds like they're improving a lot. The passenger said the looked cleaner than ever.

The guys are in great spirits from my limited conversations with a few members, but the heat is a problem for them.

    Hey, we love them.
