  1. I'm selling a used silver 3 valve Dynasty DEG GG contra. It's about 39 to 40 inches long and has a 17 inch bell. There is no case or mouthpiece. I have pictures available for you to see this horn. Please e-mail me and I will send them to you. $800 or your best offer. There is an additional $75 fee for shipping. If you're not completely satisfied, I will refund your money back to you within three weeks of delivery. However, you will be responsible for shipping this contra back to me. Again, please e-mail me at demott@frontiernet.net if you are seriously interested or have any questions.
  2. Does anyone here know where are the tuning slides on a Dynasty DEG GG contra? I currently own a 3 valve version and have been trying to tune this to sound right.
  3. I recently purchased a Dynasty DEG 3 valve contra and am learning the GG fingerings for concert bass clef music. It's worked out pretty well. However, I wanted to ask what would be the fingering for middle and high Eb as the chart I've been using was for a 2 valve horn and was told to use a "slide" for those notes.
  4. Hello, I would be looking for a decent, used BBb marching tuba/contra to possibly purchase. My maximum buying price is $1000. If you have something of interest, either e-mail or PM me.

  6. How much would just the one 4 valve tuba be?
  7. Please e-mail your pictures this way too. I might be interested.
  8. Could you provide more details on the working G contras: # of valves, pictures, brand, price? I might be interested.
  9. Hello, I would be possibly interested in purchasing a used BBb contra/marching tuba to try it out. I am only willing to go no further than $1000 to buy one. If you have something of interest, please send me your horn, some pictures, and your price either as a PM or email at demott@frontiernet.net. Thank you.
  10. How much are the tubas and do you have pictures of them?
  11. Just wanted to ask anyone there as to who won the Contra prize at the I & E competition this week? Hank74
  12. Bumping this up once again because I am now selling this on E-bay. Here is the link for you to get there and make a bid or "Buy It Now" if interested: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Hank74
  13. I wanted to ask all of you who are now playing the 4 valve contras, like King or Dynasty, as to what kind of notes do you practice and play with the extra valve. Would this be playing the very low notes, below the pedal BBb? Also, when you're performing, do you play the very low notes on the field, or something more ususal like between the middle B and pedal BBb? Hank74
  14. Oh, if you are looking into being a contra player for the Statesmen, but need a contra to play, I have one available to sell. It's a K-90 GG contra with two valves. So send me a PM or e-mail if interested. Hank74
  15. I'm bumping this up because I still need to sell this contra to anyone who might be interested. I noticed there are a few other posts that are planning to sell similar K-90s. If you wish to check mine out more carefully, feel free to contact me with your mailing address. I can send you copies of the photos which I took of this horn a few weeks back. Thank you. Hank74
  16. Just out of curiousity, do any of you contra players use a plastic mouthpiece from time to time on your horn. Like playing this during practices on those hot days. Hank74
  17. My question has to do with how do you look at the front when playing the contra. Do you look straight out or do you from time to time look at the bell or the valves when playing.
  18. Hello again. I'm still planning to sell my K-90, 2 valve, GG key contra. My asking price is $700. This doesn't include shipping. If you're with a drum corps that still uses GG bugles or are looking for a contra to covert to a 3 valve one, this horn is for you. Send me either a pm or e-mail at my profile. Thank you. Hank
  19. I would like to bump this back up since I haven't received any offers to this point. Though I didn't want to sell this horn, I need to because some bills have to be paid. The purchasing price for my contra is $750. It is broken down this way. $600 for the horn, $100 for the brand new 42 inch gig bag that I bought for the contra, and $50 to cover packaging and shipping. Note, I am willing to send this to an international buyer. However, shipping will be a lot more and I'm going to be upfront to Customs and not undervalue it. If interested and/or you have any questions, send me an e-mail or pm me.
  20. I'm bumping this back up so that anyone who is seriously interested in the K-90 contra can contact me either by e-mail or pm. This would be great for any alumni corps or someone who wants to have a contra to play. Again, I'm looking for $700 to cover the price of the horn and the gig bag that will go with it.
  21. I would like to annnounce that I plan to sell the K-90 contra which I got this summer through these forums. If you're familiar with the K-90, it comes in a key of GG and has two piston valves. This one is from the early 80s, which was in its earlier stages. There is some wear and tear from previous use, and some of the metal is worn off. However, this is still a good playing horn and from what I've read here, the best of the contras ever made. I'm asking for $700. This price will cover the cost of the horn along with the gig bag that I bought for the contra's protection. Shipping will be extra, depending on whom would buy it and how soon they would need it. I've done business with FedEx before and have found them to be first rate. For anywhere in the continental US and to be shipped in about 3 days, the price quote would be about $20 to $30. But I'll go into more detail on that should you decide to purchase. This would be a great horn for any D&B corps that still uses GG contras. If you're interested, please either pm or e-mail me. I can answer any of your questions at that point. The first person who commits to buying and sends me payment will get the contra.
  22. Another question about contra fingerings, but this time your preference as to where they are positioned. Do you prefer to have them on the side as most of the D&B contras are, like the K-90? Or do you like them on a convertible tuba that would be "top action" if you used it as a concert, sitdown tuba? Hank74

    K-90 Height

For those who have played the huge K-90 contra, I wanted to ask how high or tall is it? I've been told it's bigger than 42 inches, which is the usual height for a 4/4 BBb tuba. Hank74
