  1. You cant... finals wont be out west again until DCP-I XXII I think...
  2. I am going to extend voting through the weekend, just to give everyone a chance to vote.
  3. The last thing I want to do is deny people the opportunity to participate. I will do what I can to let them know of the requirements when they register.
  4. Just as an added note... this will be hard to enforce. Especially for those people who sign up on the website, and never really visit the forums...
  5. Well, each motion is voted for on its own... you can abstain if you wish though. If they both pass... then they both pass...
  6. As far as the system is set up... if we were to go from 137 points one week to 135 the next... all a user would have to do is not change anything until the next point change. There would be no way to "force" the directors to go down to 135 or anything.
  7. I think there was a change to make it so that you lose 2 changes per week.... but again... I dont know how much work it will take to program this.
  8. Just a note, this proposal is not being voted on because it would take a significant amount of programming to do this. Sorry Toby.
  9. Proposal: Reinstate 2-day (prelims and finals) Focus shows during the regular season. Rationale: In the last few seasons, the schedule has moved away from 2-day long competitions at focus shows in favor of single day events. With the high volume of corps at these events, it makes more sense to go back to the prior format. Plus, it's fun to say "My corps made finals at this event"- there's a bit more prestige involved. Submitted by: Matt Briddell, director of Kadence.
  10. Proposal: Prelims bye for top-seeded WC corps Rationale: In order to cut down on the "split-venue" effect at finals, I propose that the top-12 ranked World Class corps heading into finals week (based on the "Season Rankings" that hostrauer is currently organizing) receive a bye for prelims. This would also add a bit more mystery and suspense to finals week, not knowing what certain corps "would have scored" on the first day of competition. Corps receiving a bye would still be able to change captions between prelims and quarterfinals per the current rules system, new rule changes to the contrary notwithstanding. Proposed by: Matt Briddell, director of Kadence
  11. Proposal: Extend caption change deadline from 4:00pm CST to 7:00pm CST Rationale: Allow participants living in timezones outside Central Standard Time (more specifically outside U.S. time zones) elbow room (per se) to submit captions. For example, Pacific Standard time runs 2 hours behind CST, meaning captions are due at 2:00pm, which for most people is during normal working hours. In Japan, this measures out to 6:00am in the morning. Adding three hours to the due time can allow a bit of a comfort zone for these time zone residents to submit captions. 8:00pm CST I think is more suitable, but during the live season, this might run over into score announcements of east coast shows. Effect on the activity: Most directors would not be affected by this change and during the live season, the deadline would still fall before show score announcements. As scores for DCPi are not announced until the following day, this should not affect the tabulating process either I would think. Residents in Europe would not be affected as the deadline already fell well into the night. Submitted by: Edward Escobar, Raincross
  12. Proposal: Elimination of finals week caption changes during the off season Rationale: By eliminating the caption week finals changes, we create the possibility that a max set at finals might not indeed make finals due to poor scoring Quarters or Semi scores. This will create a risk vs reward situation in caption selection. Example... You have 2005 INT for brass with a cost of 17 points. INT scored an 19.1 at finals and is a prime caption for value but at quarters, INT scored an 17.2 in that caption. You are know stuck with INT 05 and their 17.2 for quarters, you can not use INT 04 (17 points) and their 19.2 at quarters (but scored a 17.8 at finals) and simply change at the next round. By removing the caption change, you have a risk of not making finals despite having the best caption set for finals. History has shown this to have happen on several occasions in FDCI. Effect on the activity: Balance to the league and new strategies come into off season play. Submitted by: Cloudhype, Mystré
  13. Proposal: Reinstate prior regional touring rules, but with more flexibility Rationale: In earlier seasons, there were various rules for touring in the first half of the season. These included: Corps must designate a region as their "home base" Corps had to compete at the same regional championship as their "home base" region Corps could not tour outside their "home base" region during the first half of the season My proposal is as follows: Corps must designate a region as their home base when they first register. When a corps is registered, they must compete in that region for the first week (defined as the initial weekend and the following full week) of the season and during the week of the regional championships. Beyond that, they are free to tour wherever they wish. There would be no touring restrictions after the regional championships are complete. The regions would be set as follows: East: New England states, NY, NJ, PA, MD, DE, VA, WV, DC, Quebec, Ontario Midwest: MI, OH, IN, KY, IL, WI, MN, IA, MO, ND, SD, KS, NE South: NC, SC, TN, GA, FL, MS, AL, AR, LA, OK, TX West: CA, OR, WA, MT, WY, ID, CO, UT, NV, AZ, NM, AK, HI Alberta, British Columbia, Mexico, Japan Effect on the activity: Would lead to more realistic touring while still allowing and encouraging out-of-region touring, would lead to larger attendance at certain regional finals (esp. East and Midwest) Submitted by Matt, Kadence
  14. Proposal: Entry limits at contests Details: Contests will be categorized into 3 categories (small, medium, large), based on the location and venue available. Small events (at local venues w/ seating of 5000 or less- your typical high school show) would have a limit of 12 corps entering the contest, medium events (at large HS/small to medium college or municipal stadium- think any Texas show, Walnut CA, etc) would have a limit of 16 corps, and large events (any venue over 20,000, think the Bowling Green KY CLASS show) would have a limit of 20 corps. Entry would be on a first-come, first-serve basis, regardless of division. Separate World and Open/A class shows would still appear on the schedule as focus shows for the purpose of Sweepstakes points and establishing finals week seeding; there would be no limits on attendance at these shows. Rationale: One of the "problems" we've always seen is the issue of trying to make the tour schedule more realistic, and 30-40 corps at a show is just not realistic. I've tried to address this in past seasons by simply adding more events to the calendar, but what usually happens is "Show A" has 25 corps and "Show B" has 5. With attendance limits in place, we could have more balance at various events. Since there is no longer a "minimum" number of shows that corps need to attend to be eligible for spots in finals, extra caption points, etc as in past seasons, the issue of being limited in the number of shows you can potentially attend is reduced. Example: Schedule for Wednesday, Jan 15th: Tour schedule: East: Newark DE (large), Orono ME (medium) Midwest: Fairfield OH (small), Carbondale IL (medium) West: West Covina CA (small), Hillsboro OR (medium) South: Huntsville AL (large), Melbourne FL (small) Effect on the activity: Would diminish size of individual shows, which would be balanced by increasing the number of shows available. This would require a bit more programming by "The Management" on the front end, but not much beyond that. Would allow us to do "regional-split" touring as we've done in the past (ie having more shows in New England, doing both a California and Pacific NW tour simultaneously, etc). Proposed by: Matt Briddell, director of Kadence
  15. Note... This is contingent on figuring out how to program this!! Proposal: Tour routes. Instead of selecting your tour, show by show, you select a week long tour in the week prior to a major regional or focus show. This can even be done for the complete tour. Example: Instead of picking between: Oxford, MS, Sacramento CA, and Madison WI on the 12, Memphis TN, Boston MA, San Francisco on the 13th. ETC... You will now pick between a west tour (Sacramento, San Fran, etc) for 4 shows. A south tour (Oxford, Memphis)... Mid West, North, Europe etc... Rationale: To eliminate unrealistic "pond hopping" and "regional hijacking" Effect on the activity: A change to the tour selection page but the code should remain the same, also... this will eliminate the tour selection editor. As far as coming up with the tour, Matt shouldn't have to do any major changes... He already thinks this way Submitted by: Cloudhype, Mystré
  16. Proposal: Increase base starting point values by 10 to 145 (World) / 5 to 110 (Open) / and 0 (A). Rationale: World Class corps should be scoring 97s/98s by finals, not 95s; more spacing is needed between the classes; the challenge of A Class is the minimal number of caption points in play, no need to ruin that effect. Effect on the activity: Negligible Submitted by: Kevin Pogue, Glory of Music
  17. Proposal: Random caption point increases (1-5) each week. Rationale: Would keep the game fresh: no one could plan out they entire season because no one would know what the next week's total available points would be, including championships week. Effect on the activity: Increased randomness, less predictability in off-season. Submitted by: Kevin Pogue, Glory of Polaris
  18. Proposal: Expand list of caption choices from three years to five. Rationale: Having over 100 corps/year selections to choose from would have a two-fold effect: it would make life more difficult for the "spreadsheet savants" (myself included) while increasing the maximum number of top caption sets available. This, combined with the generated scores used in off-season, would allow more players to be within one or two tenths of the top caption picks and have a shot at the gold. Effect on the activity: Increase competitiveness by making high scores attainable by more players. Submitted by: Kevin Pogue, Glory of Music
  19. Not doing a poll this year, so make a post with your vote.... Yes, No or Abstain. This is also contingent on being able to program this... Proposal: Predetermined amount of Caption Changes My proposal would allow corps to have a alloted amount of changes to use per season. Once a corps had used them all up, they were locked with those captions for the duration of the regular season. The alloted number of changes could be finalized by committee (but less than amount of weeks) . However, I feel that the graduated point increase should stay in place as we know it. That would prevent people from choosing the max number of points from the outset. However, with this change you would also be able to make unlimited caption changes per event during the regular season. During finals week, we would keep the same system of possibly changing 2 captions per day as we currently abide by. Rationale: To increase the Strategy involving Caption Changes and when to change captions. Effect on the activity: From a gameplay standpoint, this would change the way corps directors look at making changes. This would also eliminate the "1 per week" rule for caption changes. Directors would also have to plan changes in advance since there would be less changes than weeks (a midseason rewrite). Corps may choose to save thier changes until late in the season, allowing more corps to have success early in the season. From a Technical standpoint, There is already coding for changes that is used during finals week. This could be rewritten to be a total number for the season.
