By far, drum corps is the hardest thing I've ever done. I would not trade those four summers for anything. When my students ask me about drum corps, I tell them it was the hardest thing I've ever done, but the experiences, friends, and memories are worth all the tears, sweat, blisters, sunburn, blood, and bruises. When I look back on my drum corps career, I remember the good times first. My mom also constantly reminds me that "You've done drum corps, you can do anything!". "Outsiders" don't get it... even my mom, who has been volunteering and sewing unforms for ten years, doesn't fully "get" drum corps. It's a very unique experience. True, one can work all summer, go to school, hang out with friends, etc., but you can do those things for the rest of your life. Drum corps (junior corps) you can only do until you're 21 (or 22).
It may not seems so when you're marching, but the good far, far, far outweighs the bad in the long run. Thanks for being a supportive parent; not all are.
