  5. Wow! Thanks for pointing that out and I have contacted the Mapex guys about it. This is even below cost that they are offering! MSRP on these is $750. However they do only offer the 2 basic colors at this price and black is not one of them. Having contacted them this morning, ordering in popular color's like black takes the price to $369. Having said that, it looks like I need to revise my price and mark these down to sell at $320 each or $1750 for the set! Any takers please contact the same email address. Thanks for your time.
  6. Great video, excellent production. Good luck.

  11. GREAT post and topic! I could not agree more with both of you! There are so many chances for exposure outside of the DCI tour. Theme parks, festivals, performing arts circuits and CLINICS just to name a few! Yes Clinics, even in the Open Class realm, are not only great sources of recruitment, another opportunity for your kids to perform as well as an opportunity for your staff to gain valuable teaching experience and spread a higher level of education to some schools that maybe don't get that kind of exposure. In addition it sets your group up for future support. If groups continue to look to a DCI tour as their only means for their kids to perform they are not giving their communities or their organizations what they deserve. There are so many chances for future revenues through exposure within this activity. In the end the activity was founded on education and therefore should fully support any opportunities to educate more than just its members with a 10 minute show. It's not an easy journey to say the least, but it becomes harder if your vision is focused on one path. Good discussion. :) Chris Magonigal Executive Director Genesis DBC www.genesisdbc.org
  12. This is what we call a perfect example. Please stop your assumptions - 1. Where does it say the ED does not pay his staff? In fact my entire staff volunteered to work for free last season. 2. Our kids knew about this long before this post. And they have been given the options and support to continue their drum corps experience. ` 3. Our new venture, when the time comes, is no where near the same "area". We are fully aware of what it takes to make this happen. Thanks for the advice. 4. That was the point as I mentioned before. We will post an announcement about the our new developments when it is appropriate and things are in order. I will ask that this post is removed as it has become a very trivial and silly thing to have to read replies like this. In the future might I suggest you stop assuming you know what you are talking about. We all know what assuming does. I am truly sorry that the truth is somehting that can not be shared to the public and maybe that is what is wrong with things today. "Some human beings just never cease to amaze me in how they wish to critique before knowing the truth, and they don't know the truth because they enjoy the attention of there assumptions more than actually knowing. Maybe if they knew the actual truth there would be nothing to critique." - J.F.K.
  13. Let me clarify. There has been no formal announcement that Mystikal is folding. That is between Mystikal and DCI. The actual "dirty laundry" with this organization is not aired in this announcement, only that the staff resigned and why. This was done only out of necessity and as a last case result. There have been numerous, daunting messages left for my self and this staff in regards to Mystikal’s current and past "issues" and there has been no public announcement that we are no longer part of the organization, by no choice of our own. Based on this we needed to make public that we were no longer associated and to make aware the individual who is responsible for those issues and provide a point of contact. Unless this was addressed publicly then we would continue to have to field negativity for things that are no fault of ours and be immersed in trying to explain this over and over, thus impeding us moving on. This is a very well read forum and this post was successful in accomplishing its point because the appropriate parties have seen it. In addition we would hope that it would encourage anyone who is approached to work for this group in the future to make sure it is in a better position than before and ask the “right” questions. I do not wish the same thing that happened to myself and this staff to happen to anyone. Until these matters are public, then it will keep happening to students and educators and it is truly unfair. It's easy for people to assume that they know what is going on based on a generalized post, or the knowledge they have about how their organization is run, but the reality is much different. There have been many good points on this thread, and some not so good, but the bottom line still remains that this was the last effort in order for us to move on and shed light for future individuals associated with this group. It may not have been the best solution, but it was the only one we have not attempted. Bash as you will, it iwas expected, however I feel confident that this post achieved what it was intended for and, based on it's popularity, it will aide future individuals from enduring the same experience this staff went through in 09. Chris Magonigal
  14. I do acknowledge that there are circumstances out there where egos and educational staff members are not focused on the task at hand, causing negative issues within the organization. However we must also recognize the fact that there are those who run these organizations that are not entirely honest when hiring a staff, therefore causing those staff members to not be able to effectively do their jobs and provide a safe and educational environment for students. There are examples for both instances in both Open and World Class. If an E.D. hires a staff to "rebuild" an organization, knowing full well that it is not possible with the amount of past issues that exist, it is not fair to both the educators and the members and ultimately causes bigger issues. In this activity everything you do has a consequence and if are not honest in your approach, the consequences are not likely to be positive. In order for a staff to "put in the work" there has to be a solid basis from which to work from. No matter what year and who is on staff. There is a prime example out there of an organization that has had the same issues year after year and staff after staff and those staff members shouldn't just quit teaching Drum Corps because the group they worked for was run improperly and the issues existed before their arrival. I also feel this is the minority and Open Class has a majority of well run organizations with in it. This is in no way an indication of Open Class "falling apart" as the issues here existed long before this past season. The division is still very strong and always will be. Unfortunately it just also carries with it an outlet for those who chose to do things the wrong way. Great discussion!
  15. I agree that is an easy way to see this matter and generally how the story goes. This post would not have been issued except for the insane amount of negative communication that is coming our way in regards to the past of this organization. (Examples would be the reply by 3rd&10) This announcement has gone to several entities in order to direct future communication to the proper party and allow those involved the public announcement that they were not at fault. I see no need to mix words about a post like this as you are not in anyway involved, which is evident by your "wild stab". I can assure you we did everything we could to remain with this organization and prepare it for future success. At the end of the day it is all about the members and this is not a healthy environment for us to bring members (from anywhere) in to. Chris Magonigal
  16. After much deliberation and attempts to resolve the unfortunate issues with the Executive Director, Corps Director Chris Magonigal and his entire 2009 staff have resigned from the Mystikal organization. "What we were able to do with the students last season was an amazing accomplishment based on the circumstances. I wish Rob and his organization the best of luck in the future and hope they can turn that thing around. I hope they do the right things and make the right decisions in the coming months. I would also like to thank everyone in California for the unbelievable effort to make our season a success in the face of very turbulent circumstances!" - Chris Magonigal The former staff members will be working diligently on creating a new Drum Corps to serve the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and have already began the process. Look for some exciting announcments in the coming weeks. All future contact with the Mystikal organization can be sent to rlowery@mystikalyoutharts.org or by calling 562.335.2513
  17. the plan is in the works. More to come in the next few weeks!

We have a surplus and are looking sell these as soon as possible. If you are interested please contact me at magonigal@gmail.com for all the info, pictures and shipping info. Thank you. Chris
  20. I am sure this topic has been started in this forum somewhere and, if so, someone send me a link, but I am very curious to get some historic feedback of what people remember from this era of Drum Corps past. Not the full programs like 1995 Madison, but great musical and visual moments in shows that stand out in memory. For example, "The Wedge" from 1993 Phantom Regiment. (the first one) :)
  21. Thanks Jake! And you were totally correct, the train was the plan. Thank goodness for thinking outside the box.
  22. They made it home quite ok. The EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (totally different form the Corps Director) was unable to manage a few things very well, however we were able to pull funds from a reserve that myself and my staff had set aside for financial emergencies as well as a few donations. Thank you for your concern and I am glad that there were folks in tune with our well-being. Jake, you have such a great memory. :)We took the train to California however the train cancelled our return trip on us at the last minute which is what caused a bit of panic. We were able to fly them home, which is a much better way to travel. I wish drum corps could fly everywhere! :) Chris Magonigal Corps Director Mystikal DBC
  23. Greetings all, I would like to take a moment to publically thank a few people for the amazing season we experienced with the 2009 Mystikal DBC. To all of those friends and family members we thank you for your support and generosity. To the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas, thank you for all that you gave us, especially for the 55 members and eternal bonds we have formed with your family. To Port Hueneme Naval Base, without you our season would have never been what it was. Finally to the staff - Robert Flores - Brass Caption, Dillon Ingle - Percussion Caption, Aaron Sandoval - Visual Caption, Amanda Reynolds - Visual Consultant, Ali Martinez - Guard Consultant, Nathan Ortiz - Guard Caption and each member of their staff's I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Many stories will be coming from our organization over the next few months and the accomplishments they have made with what they were given to work with was simply outstanding. The odds that continued to mount against us were, at times, very daunting. I will be publishing the story of our season in August on our website but I wanted to share a few details with the world. At the end of our season on Sunday we were sitting in the top 5 of many of the music captions after never finishing higher than 12th in any caption in previous seasons. We eclipsed the record for first read score by 5 points and had already eclipsed the highest score recorded for this drum corps by the mid point of the season. Now, I point this out only to add validity to the following. Our hornline did not meet as a complete unit for the first time until March and our Percussion until May. We learned our entire program in a total of 13 days after taking 95% of our membership 1400 miles away from home on a 30 hour train ride. The logistical issues these young men and women were faced with seemed insurmountable at times, however they pushed through and this staff was dedicate to the education and basic foundations to build a unit that was not only solid, but able to compete against some of the best Open Class has to offer. Our intentions for the season were to work with a group of kids that would most likely never be able to participate at this level for various reasons and see were our concepts and vision takes us. The result was something that I can only describe as phenomenal! Never have I been part of something so complete educationally and it will be hard to top. As a staff we agreed to run this process with little to no publicity in order to take any pressure associated with the press off of the shoulders of these young members but to also allow for the product we built to speak for itself at the end of the season. I feel we accomplished everything we set out to and more. These members are forever changed and are part of a family and a season that will live on with us forever. We were truly blessed to have this group of kids take part in our first season together as a staff. In my opinion there is not a harder working group out there, and if you have visited our rehearsals or training sessions I am sure you will agree. There will be plenty more to follow on the ups and downs of the 2009 season, but I wanted to share my thanks with the world to this group. As a first year Corps Director I could not have asked for any more. I am sure this might spark a few questions on the future for Mystikal and to those questions I say that I am not sure. What I can say is that there will be many new developments and stories in the months to come so stay tuned. Our season concludes this Saturday with our Texas Family Day Performance and Clinic. This will be held at PSJA Memorial High School in Alamo Texas and the details are included here. Our performance will begin at 6 pm, so if you are in the area, please come by and meet these amazing kids and staff and enjoy one hell of a program! PSJA Memorial High School 800 S Alamo Rd Alamo, TX 78516 6:00 pm Chris Magonigal Corps Director The NEW Mystikal DBC
  24. That is incorrect. Please check youR facts.
  25. "Johnny Rodriguez has the biggest heart of any man I've ever met. For him to come out publicly and state for DC World to see that the program needed help, WAS HUGE!!! There are no egos involved here. He has never wanted recognition. That in itself says that the program has its faults, but he and his "constants" will never stop trying to provide Southern Texas an affordable exciting drum corps experience." George W. Bush loves this country and Americans but could we survive with him still running things? The question is not heart or intentions, rather it's about doing the right things. Heart and best intentions does not an effective leader make. I have read these posts and I have not read anyone yet say they should NOT give donations to help these kids. What I have seen is a very valid point in getting involved and finding out where that money is being spent and if it is being spent the correct way to finish the season healthy and in a position to give the members the best experience. It is clear, after the many years of financial downfalls, that there is something terribly wrong with the way things are done by those that have existed with in it consistantly for the last 5 years. Don't just throw money at the same problem over and over, get involved! If you are a financial planner, offer your services, if you are in sales offer your help, if you are an organizational planner offer your help, if you are a parent ASK QUESTIONS! It seems that some on this thread would like to divert the issue into a question of who's right and who is wrong, but the reality is that groups go through these financial problems and it happens in Open Class more than anywhere. With that said it happens to this group every season and it is time to stand up as parents, fans and drum corps followers and ask why and do what we can to help ensure that these kids and educational staff not only be allowed to finish what they started but to also prevent this from happening in the future for the survival of this organazation. That is all anyone is really saying. The long term goal of any drum corps should be survival and giving it's members a sense of pride to build a base from and call home, and with the excessive turnover of staff and members year after year it should be clear where the issues originate. Think about your own work environment....would any of this fly where you work or would someone step in and changes be made for the survival of the business? Revolution is an amazing group and has the potential every season of doing great things...but it's because of the educational staff and members and despite the Executive Director and Business Manager, not the other way around. DONATE, GET INVOLVED, ASK QUESTIONS and HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEM. The survival of your members drum corps depends on it. I hope for these members and staff that things work out for the rest of the season. They are a good bunch and it will be a shame to see them fail to continue. Good luck in your efforts.
