Enjoy life in the protective bubble of bliss and happiness. Rose colored glasses for everyone.
  2. Some food for thought on "tradition" "Tradition is the illusion of permanance." ---Woody Allen "Tradition is an explanation for acting without thinking"---Grace McGarvie “Without tradition, art is a flock of sheep without a shepherd. Without innovation, it is a corpse.”---Winston Churchill “Tradition is a prison with majority opinion the modern jailer” ---anonymous “Tradition does not mean that the living are dead, it means that the dead are living.”---Harold Macmillan “Imagination continually frustrates tradition; that is its function”---Jules Pfeiffer “Don't talk to me about Naval tradition! It's nothing but rum, sodomy, and the lash”---Winston Churchill “It's my guess that those cutting-edge artists who attack tradition secretly believe tradition will survive to enshrine them as the wild and crazy geniuses who destroyed it”---Brad Holland “At every crossroads on the path that leads to the future, tradition has placed 10,000 men to guard the past.”---Maurice Maeterlink “We don't want tradition. We want to live in the present and the only history that is worth a tinker's dam is the history we make today.”---Henry Ford “In every revolution there intrude, at the side of its true agents, men of a different stamp; some of them survivors of and devotees to past revolutions, without insight into the present movement, but preserving popular influence by their known honesty and courage, or by the sheer force of tradition; others mere brawlers, who, by dint of repeating year after year the same set of stereotyped declamations against the government of the day, have sneaked into the reputation of revolutionists of the first water They are an unavoidable evil: with time they are shaken off.”---Karl Marx
  3. New York has been the venue of some of the greatest concerts the world has ever seen. Perhaps doing a show based on the great performances from some of these events: Live from Central Park............The SKYLINERS!!!!! Think of some of the great musical events that have happened in that place; Simon and Garfunkel, Dave Matthews Band, Garth Brooks, Sheryl Crow, not to mention the NY Metropolitan Opera Company and New York Philharmonic. This would be a differnt approach to Sky. You could also go the old stand-by route with jazz and do a tour of New York's jazz clubs. Birdland, Blue Note, Cotton Club, Village Vanguard
  4. ??????? I was at the show, and yes, Buccs were playing classical, but were they cleaner than everyone else? The recap has them 3rd in brass behind Empire (Ray Charles Music) and Bush (Contemporary Jazz, Broadway, and 20th Century Concert Band Music) . Their Percussion dominated over 2nd and 3rd which gave them 1st in composite music. The percussion section was extremely clean. The visual design won the effect caption as well. The music effect was 2nd place. The entire team of visual, percussion and brass are responsible for the winning combination.
  5. Usually a pretty big parade and the first showing for a bunch of corps. Anyone in DCP land go?
  6. Trombontine Slide Cream. Then you just need to moisten the slide when it gets a little sticky. A combination of Lemon Pledge (non aerosol) 30 % and water 70% in a small spritz bottle.
  7. For me the difference was minimal. I played a G and a Bb baritone bugle into a friends decibel memter. On the G horn the average read at 120 decibels. On the Bb horn it was 118 decibels. Now I realize our methods were not necessarily scientific, but I seriously doubt that anyone is going to really notice a 2 decibel difference. The human ear just isn't designed to pick up that minute a detail. At that point its just really loud anyway. What it comes down to is instruction and musicianship. A better in tune line doesn't have to play as hard to generate the same loudness as an out of tune line does. The soundwaves are working more in harmonic unison which is more pleasant to the ear. The point is really moot anyway. Bb is here. In 25 years G bugles will be to the players of 2030 what single valve bugles are to us. A nice reminder of what the past was. Our history. Improvements in equipment happen in everything. Imagine what Bobby Jones (the golfer, not Buccs drill designer 2005) would do with the equipment Tiger Woods uses. Its evolution. It happens. Darwinism working in drum corps. Those who don't evolve and change are left behind. Remember when color guard was about equipment work, angles and planes and not about ballet training? Remember when drill moves were symmetrical. What is all this amoebic asymetrical stuff? Its modern drum and bugle corps. It has evolved.
  8. You guys have to do classical. So many other corps do jazz (some not so well btw). That great classical sound is what set you apart from the rest of the field this year. Look, the top two corps in DCA playing classical music on Bb's. Some old phartes must be rolling in their graves. Keep it classical Bush and keep on troopin'. :D
  9. Should be a great finals weekend.
