Probably not much different than the oil can quite honestly. Even though Lucas has a 70,000 seating capacity, it has a lot more end zone seating than Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. So, my guess is that there’s not much difference. The acoustics, however……

I bang my drum. Dad told me if i picked up a horn i’d be disowned. The one time he saw me messing around with a rifle he threatened to cut me out of the will. And well I want the Fleetwoods and his Yankee Rebels jacket.

so sorry if I annoy you too. Well, ok, not really. But hey did I ever tell you about the time someone sent me the G7 presentation from the room while it was being explained by a now former director who changed a lot of it without warning the other 6 and basically backed them into a corner to go along with it?

    Haha well played.

In my experience, when people don't like the content being discussed, but don't have an adequate rebuttal, it immediately becomes about the tone and the method of communication. After a number of decades trying to fit into a narrow definition of what is an "appropriate way" to communicate bad news, I decided that some people will never be happy with the messenger if the message is negative, no matter how they categorize their objection.

So let the bad news fly I say. Bring the dark into the light and let's have honest discourse without pretense.

Since you’re talking about me, you would be very wrong. I ate up Jeff’s stuff about G7. I also ate up Richard’s info about SCV. So you couldn’t be more wrong. My point is simple - you want to get the message across and not detract from it by diverting focus to yourself.   Stuff we learned in ninth grade English.

but...he actually did it. for 13 years i've been saying i'm the guy that got the G7 stuff from inside the room and made it public.

Now that you mention it, that gets a little annoying too. 😏

Guess I’m not a fan of people tooting their own horn excessively. Sorry

My ego doesn't matter. My cause is irrelevant. There is nothing I nor anyone else can do to stem the tide SCV leadership has navigated towards. The CA DOJ is not considering my social media popularity.

Nah. Your presentation needs work. Cut out most of the “I did this and I did that” stuff and it will come across so much better. Restate without the “I”.  You unnecessarily shift the focus from where it should be (SCV) to yourself.  You don’t want that, right?  You can do it.

Nah. That’s not it at all. It’s in the presentation. One can make a point without saying “I” a nauseating number of times.   You do it.

Well, where we were last year was:

I predict based on my years as SCV Treasure, understanding of their business model, state and local laws, and the starting financial position (year end 2021) of 2022 they would be in clear violation of various bingo laws, and by defaulting on creditors clearly have completely run out of money.

What ended up happening when 2022 financials were made available by SCV:

I underestimated their financial troubles this time last year. They blew threw $1.4M of their reserves in 2022 (quite possibly ran that down completely to zero at some point, and maybe it bounced back later in the year. We'd need month by month financials to see how it progressed over the year). They also ended FY 2022 in a negative financial liquidity position owing more in short term debt than they had in cash, savings, and investment instruments combined. For them to have made themselves current on all debt they would have had to sell some sort of capital asset (like the trucks).

Then, while I projected they were paying bingo employees illegally, and that would happen some time in FY2023 based on the end of FY2022 that clearly was happening during 2022 because of how much they burned through their reserves and ending in a negative liquidity position well before they even got to FY2023. There were no reserves available to pay Bingo Employees from going into FY 2023.

As far as the reason for their financial troubles, we were told it was expense related this time last year. However, it really was Revenue related. Their FY2022 expenses were not scarily more than they operated with in FY2019 (the previous normal touring year). However, Bingo net income collapsed while reporting dramatic increases in revenues. I was expecting FY2022 990's to tell me somewhere in the expenses things blew up, but it all points to Bingo.

    *****

In continuance of this being a "dead horse" I suppose both sides of the passionate argument would disagree. One side would say the horse is not dead, and the other side would say, hey, this is not even a horse (who are you trying to fool).

    *******************************

For all the heat I have had to deal with this entire last year, this is it folks.................. we are coming to the conclusion of what I said was going to happen this entire time.

We could be less than a month away from what I had being trying to encourage SCV steer clear of. SCV and Cool-Aid drinkers can say otherwise, and throw crap my way, but in the last year things have only gotten worse, and in a manner measurable by the California Department of Justice ,and provable by the latest 990.

Last year at this time I ended up pulling a post I put here on DCP regarding their illegal Bingo Operations because at the time I was confronted by an attorney I didn't have proof. I only had logic. The SCV President denied any legal or regulatory violations across the board, and a few months later I make their delinquency public (going back to 2020). So that proves the leadership of SCV at the highest levels are liars.

Then the 2022 990's prove my theory of Illegal Bingo operations. That has been going on since 2022, and the entirety of 2023, plus the more than $1,000,000 that was raised illegally through grants and donations since 2020 (any line items of donations and grants on the 990's for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 are illegal, and it totals  over $1,000,000).

I told everyone that could act and fix things this time last year, this is where SCV is going, and the entire year of 2023 was ###### away, and now we are in the final days and it's all in the State of California's hands.

    *****************

I don't know how a CPA firm is going to be able to provide an audit opinion for 2021, 2022, and 2023 that SCV is not in violation of illegal donation/grant fund raising and distribution, and the illegal Bingo Operations and comingling of bingo income used to pay Bingo Employees.

    Summary of this post:  I, I, I, I, I, I.
Dude, work on keeping that ego in check. You don’t help your cause.

Kudos to the Guardsmen for bringing such a memorable piece of music to the field. A shout out to Ms. Terri’s contribution to a great legacy. You all were awesome!

Fanfare For The New?  Yeah I know you’re talking about Greensleeves but (no offense intended to Argonne) it was - ahh Thats’s what it’s supposed to sound like. I prefer the ‘79 Guardsmen version to the one BD did in ‘87.

...because that's the SCV way. Lots of handwaving and pretending things don't exist because it tarnishes their image. At some point in the last 30 years, the idea of being SEEN as classy and above reproach became more important than actually being classy and morally upstanding.

Maybe it changed when a director was fired for (allegedly) sleeping with male members. Maybe when JW was fired months after winning a championships and they tried to spin it as just an administrative realignment. Maybe it started as soon as GR died, but at some point the fantasy became more important than accountability.

    Well stated.

That's all spot on. So why is it taking so long (going on 5 years now).

The bigger problem is Bingo profitability collapsed while revenues still dramatically rose.

While 2022 did see more expenses, I would call it slightly higher than the previous touring year's expenses, so it was manageable .

Where SCV took it in the shorts was Bingo net income decreased over $1M, while revenues increased over $6M.

Is there a plausible explanation for this, or is someone stealing from Bingo again?

The new CEO was already in place with a plan to terminate the Vanguard A-Corps before COVID shut everything down.

This is so funny in a not actually funny at all way. One - that the organization brought in this guy. Two - that he was so lacking in the basic fundamental understanding of what the Vanguard organization is about that he thought it a good business move to terminate the A corps.  Beautiful.

I have no knowledge of what happened in SCV's case, but I have personally witnessed botched migrations between accounting software because data import/export tools didn't work as anticipated, or because data mapping was completed incorrectly by the 3rd party supplier of the new software.

And so have I. That’s why I made that comment. One can blame it on the supplier, or IT, or incompatibility of systems, or whatever else one wants to blame it on. But in the end it is your system, you decided to do the upgrade. You didn’t get intimately involved as you should have to work out the kinks.   Take personal responsibility and fix it. That’s my point.

    100%. 40 years later??? 40 years???

What number of years is too many?  What is your number?  State it. And as you ponder your number, recall that Christine Blakey Ford’s accusations against Brett Kavanaugh were from alleged events about 35 years earlier. Was that a sham?

I don’t think it’s the number of years that’s really the issue for you. I think it’s the existential threat to the Cadets that is your issue. How dare they let some sexual assaults derail this organization.

The issue is Santa Clara Vanguard 2024 not the past.  If some posters on here stopped reading Redit and did some research on Russ Gavin, you would find that he.  1) Marched Drum Corps. 2) Was successful Music Educator at both the high school and university level. 3)  Took over the Stanford Band at a time when it was the laughingstock of the college marching band scene and close to being shut down permantly.     He faced membership health and safety issues within the band that were compounded by the fact that he was dealing with adults. He solved all the problems that came up and the Stanford Band is a respect member of the college marching community today. 4) Was a Corps Director for eight years and the corps made DCI finals seven of those eight years.  5)  Was the first corps director to have a Trans member in the corps. The policies and procedures that he implemented to protect that member on tour are still used by many corps today.  Protecting Gay, Lesbian and Trans members is an important part of drum corps and marching bands.

Let's give Russ a chance to solve the problems at SCV.

The Stanford band a respected member of the college marching community today?

    Thanks for the belly laugh.

Care to tell us what those rumors are? Some of you are just so eager to tear down these drum corps. It is exhausting. Go start your own forum where you can talk trash all day long. Just leave the negativity off of here. Seriously. It is getting so old to open a thread and see the same 3 people (Jeff Ream, ShherexadeGhost or whatever) being completely insufferable. You have ruined this place

Can’t take it anymore after a grand total of two posts. This has to be some sort of record. As always, feel free to add your positive thoughts. Everyone will be happy to read them. Otherwise, griping is just griping. You don’t have to read this stuff. And Jeff Ream is eager to post positive things. There just doesn’t seem to be an over abundance of that regarding SCV right now. 🤷‍♀️
