I think they stopped putting out the DVDs because they realized they were undercutting the sales of the season championships. Still, a lot of great performances on those two discs!

Naw; didn't you see the video: "I. AM. JOAN!"
They're going to replicate Spartacus in every detail except for the female lead.

Given the various scandals of this past season, as well as the scandals that are apparently about to come to light, I can think of no legitimate reason for Atcheson not to speak to the reporter.

At the Birmingham show I attended this past summer, most of the corps (possibly all, I didn't start looking for them til a few corps into the show) had their own generators. Given the wide variations in venues, I suspect it's effectively mandatory.

Garfield ‘83, Rocky Point Holiday with the first Z-pull ever.
It took a few days for it to occur to me, but I'm kind of partial to the reprise of Concerto in F from Garfield 82.

Star 1985 did a reprise of "When You Wish Upon a Star" . . . good, but PR 2003 is really in a class by itself.

I would have to look to be sure, but Music City garnered a lot of votes. They were mentioned quite frequently as I recall in this category.
Saw them in Birmingham--similar to the Mandarins, they had a great show idea, and sold the hell out of it. Incredible energy.
On top of that, one of the marimba players is the son of an old college friend.

I don't know, but that contra was ######!
The crazy contra solo was in 1980. "Open Wide"?

Wasn't there a good bari solo in 27th Lancer's 1981 Niner-Two?

While judges do see the shows several times, I think they are intended to judge the performance that is in front of them. At some point in every season, they are seeing a corps for the first time. DCI tries to rotate judges to different captions over the course of a season.
There were two judges in Finals--Rothe and Romanowski--that only judge three shows prior to Finals. Rothe saw SCV twice before. Romanowski saw them only once prior to finals.
I don't know to what degree judges watch shows when they aren't judging. Are they supposed to? But, it's not a given that they've seen the shows more than the fans have.
OK, thanks for the info. I was under the impression the judges saw the shows on a more regular basis.
And just so we're clear, I am not implying any sort of dissatisfaction regarding SCVs show. Yes, I'm not familiar with any of the music, but it is growing on me. And the musicianship on display was unreal.

For many, they only get one shot!
Here is where the disconnect is, I think. While many people only see the show a few times at most, the corps are programming for the judges, who see the show time after time after time. As a result, shows have a tendency to overwhelm on first viewing.

While I think their show was fantastic, I hope it is unique to them and no one else. I like a little variety in my life.
I miss SCV's Aussies and feathers, especially their green ones for the age-outs (?).
Yeah, there were times during the show when I thought "Would it have killed them to wear the classic unis and get a little more color out there?" :)

When their scores were announced, I was delighted to see MMs from the corps on either side reaching out to congratulate them. Saw them in Birmingham, and everyone there was won over by their performance and energy.

OK, Just watched SCV's championship run. First time I've seen their show this season. I'm not entirely sure how all that movement represented Babylon. I'm not sure I really care. That is one of the most stunning displays of musicianship I've ever seen. Absolutely breathtaking.
Vanguard, congrats on a championship show for the ages.

Just based on the snippets, I'd go
1. SCV
2. BLOO
3. BD

Apologies--I definitely should have given a shout out to the hometown corps! Really couldn't get a feel for the visuals from my vantage point, I really enjoyed the sounds of "Knightmares". The mom tucking her daughter in at the beginning was a great image to set the mood for the entire show.

So, now that I'm bloody and bruised from all the soon to be hate, even JD knew 2008 was somewhat a fluke.
Hmmm. Give the quality of PRs shows leading up to 2008, calling it a fluke seems more than just a bit of a stretch.

I have such a hard time believing this corps is sitting in 12th right now. No way is that a 12th place show, no way is that 12th place talent, no way is the design that 'bad'. It's a beautiful show and they perform it beautifully. Wow
At the Birmingham show, I was stunned by the quality of the shows from top to bottom. PR has much better than 12th place talent; the show design is holding them back.
Of course, they went on right after Mandarins, which really wasn't fair. The Mandarins' talent is not on par with PR, but they have a brilliantly designed show and they are getting everything they can out of it.
