  1. So you didn't trust the reports you read in 2008 that said gas prices could reach $4?

Lincoln Navigators were all the rage at the time. Hummers, too, as drivers refused to believe that gas prices could reach $4/gal.

Your viewpoint would make it tough for you to negotiate a "wet" lease for tour buses, I'm afraid.

Interesting G, but let's see what happens when the politicians get involved and how OPEC (Saudi Arabia) handles those possibilities. If it does happen, a great assist will be for the lower placing WO and most OC corps to compete in several more shows.

  2. BTW - I had talked earlier about my son looking to audition for Boston this year, but after talking to the corps and looking at their schedule and considering all other factors, we've made the decision not to do so this year. Instead, he'll look to cement a spot with his home-state corps, Jersey Surf.

So I won't have any inside information into the Boston program this year to share, but he still has several more years of eligibility to try for Boston later.

    Good luck, Crusaders!

And good luck to your son in his audition with Jersey Surf. May the factors look better for a shot with Boston next year.

  3. It's too late for the 2015 Rose Bowl, but it sure would be great if Boston could follow the Scouts and be part of next year's Macy's Parade during their 75th year. A great way to follow up their inaugural parade gig.

A big well done to everyone involved with the Scouts performance and a life time of great memories.

  4. I thought Madison represented drum corps very well. It sounded like Matt Lauer called them the Madison Scwouts. Anyone hear that?

Yes. It's been mentioned by others already. Plus, his partner started off with an error. With the millions they earn each year, going over the script for the next group, singer, etc. while the current group, singer, etc. is on camera shouldn't be too hard to ask.

  5. IMO, the ticket prices for the show are a bit steep, compared to those for other alumni-corps events. I wonder if that's factor in the attendance thing.

I know it's quite an expense to produce such a show, so I have no idea if those prices can be lowered without watering down the event.

Nevertheless, Saturday night was fun. A bunch of really solid performances.

And, like the others have said, the entire weekend is a chance to catch up with some old friends.

And to overdose on New England seafood.

I went several times when it first started, but to me, it became stale as a paying customer. During those years, there was mostly the same old music. I'd say the participants enjoy it more than the folks in the seats, especially being in Plymouth for a few days.

  6. no -- if those lower corps were training kids as well as the upper tier corps, THEY'D BE BEATING THE UPPER TIER CORPS ! guess what -- that ain't happening out in the real world. top tier corps win not because of talent but because of teaching (well...and design and admin too but not relevant here) . do they get more talent ? heck yeah -- because the really talented kids want to perform there. they want to learn there.

I disagree CB. Many of the lower placing WC mm joined those corps younger than the average age of much higher placing WC corps. They may have never marched DC style, most have skills that are still rough around the edges, etc. Those lower placing corps/band instructors make them better and they improve even more. In most cases, before they audition with the top corps, they are much more skilled than their first Winter camp with their first corps do to a few DCI years under their belt. And once with a top corps, they continue to improve.

  7. This will now be followed by umpteen emails by Craiga, Ghost, Emc2 and crew defending Boston's new terminology, absences, and switcheroos. No need. All is good. It's going to be a great drum corps season where ever the contest is, if we long time fans can even afford to go.

Of the three posters you referenced X, I'm the one who usually gets his wrist slapped for not defending the corps enough. I've mentioned to others, but not here on DCP, that this could be the Crusaders last major anniversary. I'm guessing if D&BC and the BAC are still around in 2040, those who bleed red and black will be down to a handful, so next year might be the only time to really celebrate an anniversary. It seems to me that those working on next year's activities have brought their "A" game to the table. We all should be anxious to see what else is planned.

  8. First thing will be to find a campground between the two locations to home-base. I tow my truck so we'll have wheels, and driving will not be a problem. Getting tickets to see the shows, apparently, will be an issue.but I may have friends who can get into a sponsored area.

Here's some more homework for you!

  9. One option G is renting an RV. With traffic to Lenox or the Esplanade around July 4th, you might not want to travel from one location to location or a different hotel each night. With an RV, you have flexibility to spend a night or two in a Wally World parking lot, or line up some RV parks. You're looking at around 130 miles between Boston and Lenox. Schedule a week or so, do the DC stuff and hit a few Tammy and Tommy tourist type locations.

  10. Back in the early 90's I drove for Boston Coach and before moving into dispatch, was the primary driver (first time i drove her to Harvard for lunch, she checked how the car was spaced between the parking spot lines. I nailed it!)for an elderly lady (91 ) who was well off and donated heavily to the BSO. Well, she convinced Boston Coach that she needed me to drive her out to Lenox MA to look for something she had left in her Summer home and by the way, we will be staying the night at the home used by the current BSO conductors and other key musicians during their Summer time at Tanglewood. She was adamant with the house staff that she wanted to stay in the bedroom named after http://www.boston.com/ae/music/gallery/bsoconductors?pg=10 . Can't recall whose room I had, but it was a trip for the ages and sure paid well.

  11. Wait. Please explain. The schedule shows July 4th is TBD. The Pops orchestra plays the Esplanade, too, the same day?

Guess you've never watched the live broadcast of the Pops on the Esplanade each July 4th. Keith Lockhart and the Pops are listed for July 5th at Tanglewood, while on the 4th a "Popular artist TBA" will be at T-wood. http://boston.cbslocal.com/guide/guide-to-the-4th-of-july-pops-spectacular-on-the-esplanade/

  13. 2nd truck has arrived in FL. Thanks AL your the best.

Sorry emc2, but messages like this is the reason why I'll never be interested in facebook or twitter. Doesn't matter who posts them (hey, my CD/DVD arrived today!) they are not important to me. Good chance no other corps will have this type of announcement.

(Guess some could consider me guilty with the "Is it almost time for "pitchers and catchers" to report?" post earlier.)
