As good a possibility as any other idea at this point.

Tim K. " and only crossed the bridge south to attend a funeral. "
Orrrrrrr, compete in contests in Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth, etc.

And, interestingly, their battery didn't play a note for roughly 3 minutes and 20 seconds during the Teng ballad.
BRASSO has mentioned once or thrice how the Cavies won one year and their percussion section went to the back right touch line (for you soccer fans) for several minutes.

And have the DM conduct like Bernstein!
PR is one of the few corps that allow their lead DM to actually conduct. Too many human metronome DM's for my liking.

In 1977 their were 6 member's of the Manning family marching in Manning Bowl during the World Open.
Now that is dam interesting and a great Drum Corps trivia possibility.
-
sounds like they have had this in mind for quite some time.
Had the same thought with such an early announcement.

I'm unable to edit the above post with the following. Open the old photo's topic and pull up page 2055. Then follow the above post. Sorry.

And some of the biggest trophies! Dam they were heavy.
Open the thread about old photo's and scroll down to the photo of two Boston DM's and color guard captain holding the trophies from the 66 WO. Stokie stuck me with the big one. The photo that is a few or so before the WO one of four Boston members is from 65, not 59.

During it's run, Manning Bowl was also known for great sound, especially if it was a little cooler at night.Never saw a crowd like that. Manning Bowl filled to the brim not a set left in the house. This 14 year old was like Holey ____ but the DM called us to Attention and memory took over and wasn't nervous any more.

And DCE needs to have finals in early August before the Barclays Premier League begins! It's all about the historical trends. This activity is new there, but there were 62 corps in DCI last I checked. I predict the top corps will continue to improve, and in 10 years or so may be a threat, so to speak. The have the energy and the passion. Once the music majors discover how much better it is than doing scales all summer in their bedrooms, things will get really interesting.

For the most part all athletic/artistic "groups" no matter what level they are at, work hard. But, I'm at the stage of my life, where I would rather spend the bucks to take in the BSO (when still living in Metro Boston) than the community orchestra. Living in SW UT is tough in the live entertainment department, unless you want to do some driving.

What a 180 this post is from the previous ones. No idea lonnim. Welcome and thanks for steering everyone back to the original topic.anyone out there remember the Monterey Park Girls Drum and Bugle Corps. I was in it for 10 years starting in the 50s lasting till the 60s. I noticed there is only one corps left in southern Ca now there used to be many

World Class is the major leagues; Open Class is AAA; and DCE is AA.

Fluidity would be nice. Slotting though starts early in the season. Not too many corps start in the mid 60's and move ahead by finals of a corps that starts the year in the low 70's.In that tier, I expect 2015 to be just as competitive as 2014, but I would like to see more fluidity. Any more, it seems that the most crucial show of the year is the first one, because the chances are very slim that your relative position to other corps will change during the season.

Interesting version. However, I do think if two situations happened, the first being that Boston Crusaders made finals in 78 which most people expected, they would have ascended in the following years. 27th would have fought hard to make sure they were the dominant corps, and if they had won in 1980, the heated rivalry between these two corps would have escalated, and recruitment and dollars would have followed. Cadets who were struggling would have been the corps that was history, and George Hopkins would be leading another corps to a glorious heritage. So I think if 27th has won in 1980, the major change would quite possibly been no Cadets.

Shortly after the rifle line jumps over the flags in 81 there is a drop, but your point is accurate, their execution and continual rifle work was fantastic. No wonder they were staged quite often up front. The awesomeness of the 1980 and 1981 Madison Scout's Rifle Lines. Watch the video from '81 then bring up a video of the '06 Alumni Project. Its got to be the same guys because they are doing the same work and its still near-flawless. Masculine, athletic and near perfect execution at every show. Those guys set the tone for both shows. Rivermen were on tour with Mad most of 80 and chunks of 81, my god those guys were amazing. I don't recall seeing a drop...ever.

And I quote my source, "they were a product of the Lower Mills."Ray, being that you posted this at 4:26 A.M. it's understandable. I have no idea where they were from I just know that Tony ended up on Newbury St. in Boston which ain't a bad neighborhood.

With Bsader mentioning the Boston area indoor shows, here's some videos of Alumni corps at BU in 95. There are more available I think.

Nancy Kerrigan put that rink back on the map when she trained there on her way up the international figure skating circuit. The Stoneham arena was basically built for us by Bobby Orr and the big, bad Bruins.

I was 14 years old and my first show was with the Boston Crusader's competing in the then annual standstill competition "Drumfest" performed inside Boston College's Walter Brown hockey Arena.
Oh, ohhhh. Walter Brown Arena is where BU's Women's ice hockey team plays and BC men play ice hockey in the Kelley Rink named after legendary coach "Snooks" Kelley.
Now, the Drumfest was held at the old Boston Arena off of Mass Ave. which is now owned by Northeastern U. Thirty push up's please.

Now a days, some college football and basketball teams, will play teams who usually clobber them. But they do it for the better pay day, exposure, and hopefully improve recruiting. It's easy now to question what corps management was thinking in the examples you mentioned, but when it happened, I'm guessing they just wanted the corps to march in contests no matter who was marching. What was it that would motivate a Corps management and parents to offer their kids up to the likes of the Bayonne Bridgeman, 27th Lancer's and SCV when they had no right competing against them? Was it part of those off-season delusion's that can take hold of Corp. Was it about managerial and parental egos that kept them from being patient? Is this why so many kids were leaving their class A Corp to join one of the big Corps despite the fact they were in the same class together? Is this why these Corps would give up their identity to merge with another Corp?

1991 Phantom Regiment: For opera buffs, this is the equivalent of Madison's a Drum Corps Lovers Dream
Now Padre, who would ever "forget" the guards sensual moments?
I'm still mad at my self for not driving the 40 or so miles to see the 94 finals!
