  16. I know how difficult it is to get busy performers to take days off from work to get someplace during the week. We appreciate all the corps that are performing at our show this weekend. It's a power packed lineup with interesting match-ups throughout. I'm planning to go to the practices (at the show site) to watch these dedicated performers and instructors do their magic. I can't wait to meet some new people and talk about Drum Corps, that is to say, what we all love. Wouldn't it be great if people showed up to give these corps some encouragement? Let me give the address of the show site for MapQuesters and GPSers: Jefferson Middle School Striders Field 195 Martin Road Jamestown, NY 14701 Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  17. New Executive Board for Brigadiers Music Association (BMA) and some updates: The Brigadiers Music Association has appointed the following new Executive Board Members: President: Randy May Vice-President: Scott Mescon Secretary: Lorri Vandawalker Treasurer: Tom Johnson The Executive Board named Mike Brooker as Managing Director of BMA. The main objective of this core group is to put the BMA in a financial position to return The Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps to the competitive field. As I've said a few times before, the corps will not return until said financial position is really healthy! Meanwhile, our Brigadier Summer Visual Ensemble [bSVE] successfully performed at the Hornell Show last weekend. It was their first public performance and they did well...very well!! Two weeks ago, a bunch of us ran a concession stand at Watkins Glen International Raceway for a weekend of IRL racing. It was hot that weekend but the money spends. The first of our two co-sponsored Drum Corps shows is in Jamestown, NY on July 24th, not this weekend, but next. Jamestown is one of the friendliest places I've ever visited. It's the warmth of the people. Do join us! It'll help the cause. Regards, Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  18. Even though the actual musical didn't light Broadway up to the extent it could have, when I saw, "Chess In Concert," on PBS I knew it had to be a possibility. I hope it wasn't just the unbelievable performances of Josh Groban and Idina Menzel that got me thinking that way. They were spectacular! The show is full of production numbers and potential ballads. Not that you have to use Chess as the whole show's idea....Hey!...What the...I'm one one of those repertoire suggesters!!! Dang! (See my previous post.) Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  19. I think you were mentioning, "Chess." the musical. Right? I'm sitting here quite jealous of MBI's choice of music from Chess. "Chess" would have at least been one of the choices I would've suggested for my corps the next time. Isn't it funny how people suggest repertoires? I used to watch our Director field all sorts of ideas for new shows from people. To his credit he gave each of them some idea that their ideas might have some merit. Usually it's music from the person's favorite group, like Thin Lizzy, or Foghat! They were all convinced it could be done on the field! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  20. I have found Jamestown to be a great place to visit. I've had to visit there for work twice a year for many years. It's the warmth of the people there that always strikes me. Just nice people who welcome you with every word. It's so much more than the obvious Home of Lucille Ball!! I will be there to work on the show and I hope to meet a lot of you personally! If it's not too hot to wear it, I'll be in my Brigs jacket with my name on it. The Western, NY and Erie, PA Drum Corps community is vast and has a long history. See you on the 24th!! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  21. A reminder about our shows this summer is below. Scott M.
  22. Wouldn't you know it? Our Saturday volunteer shift at the Watkins Glen International Speedway is nearly full, but the Sunday, July 4th shift is lacking bodies. Thank you to  everyone who has volunteered for us so far!!! The Sunday shift is the bigger, race-day shift so we're looking for a few good Race-Fan-men-and-women to volunteer for us on Sunday. It will help the  Brigadiers immeasurably if you can come out from 9A-6P. Contact Mike Brooker asap at mbrooker59@yahoo.com or 315.450.4545. The speedway just needs your full name and DOB to be sure you're 18 years old. Thanks again!! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
  23. MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR (FUN)DRAISING EVENT!!! This weekend we have a (fun)draising event at Watkins Glen International Speedway. The Brigadiers will be running a concession stand at the speedway for the Indy Car Race and Qualifications and will earn a nice donation from the track for doing so. We're asking for a few more volunteers to join us in this effort. But, be sure to bring your earplugs because last year the stand was about ten yards from the track!! This is a chance to hang with some dedicated Brigadiers. If you're a race fan and a BrigsFan, it's too good!!! Volunteers just need to be 18 years old. Some of us are planning to camp there the whole weekend from Friday night on. The volunteering shifts run from 9A -6P on Saturday and Sunday, July 3rd and 4th. One or both days' shifts can be requested, but we request that you call Mike Brooker at 315.450.4545 or write him at mbrooker59@yahoo.com to request your shifts and camping requirements. Mike has to register you with the track as soon as possible. Come and join us!! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-

  25. What's New? CONTINUED PROGRESS.... The Brigadiers' Executive Board and Committee met for a marathon session last weekend to clarify issues that have begged for resolution for months and sometimes years. With remarkable clarity and few disagreements, the Board went to work on issues from organizational roles, functional units, and internal controls to performance, finance, and our vision. Hasn't it always been "money and members" as ever present challenges for all corps? We plan to return to the field when we're ready in both areas. But, there is a direction of play. First, raising money, then raising members. Many exciting details to follow folks! Stay tuned to the Red Team! Scott Mescon Brigadiers 1993-
