  1. Quote: "...Don't come if you don't like the Rose Bowl. You'll leave more seats for the 5000 or some odd expected supporters for the Kingsmen ALONE to show up and cheer them on....." Ah, Ryan? What do you mean "odd expected supporters for the Kingsmen?" What's odd about supporting The Kingsmen? (kidding) See you at Feb's rehearsal and you can 'splain, Lucy!" Also, that part about phat paycheck for DCI? Nothing odd there either: that would be "a good thing," right? The rest was pretty on the money......once again "The Voice of California Drum Corps" is heard over the rhubarb. Good on ya, Ryan! RON HOUSLEY
  2. I figure Kingsmen Alumni Corps should be able to fill the Rose Bowl with a pretty huge sound......there's going to be 300 of us. RON HOUSLEY
  3. Mike, make a master list of the corps you want and then get them a few at a time, like one disc per month. Spreads out the monetary hit that way and you've always got something to look forward to in the months ahead. That's the only way I can afford this stuff. Between the vids, the Legacy series, and other sites like POCM, a historical drum corps library of one's own adds up fast! And then there's the merchandise that the corps themselves offer......not a lot left in the old budget for trips to the Gentleman's club and/or contributions to the various church funds, eh? Fortunately I buy the cheap mac and cheese. RON HOUSLEY
  4. ...and thanks, John M., for such a great idea. RON HOUSLEY
  5. With the 1971 Lynwood, CA Diplomats our mgr. was a band guy as was his assistant. As things transpired it was former and then current drum corps people who actually ended up running the instruction: Will Polacek on percussion, Stanley Knaub on M&M and me on brass. I doubt that any of us was over 25, Stan being still in high school or just out. The real factor was that we instructors had probably 30 years combined drum corps experience in Southern California. We had no techs, we did it all ourselves with section leaders doing a fair amount of the work. I don't think band oriented instruction could have done better in so short of time, not that we were anyways near championship ready. For that year it worked out well enough, though sadly the corps had only about one weak year left after we all left. RON HOUSLEY
  6. I'd go just to see The Kingsmen Alumni Corps the night of semi-finals. Oh wait, I have to go! See you there! RON HOUSLEY 07 Kingsmen Alumni Corps.
  7. Those otters were unhappy....and I haven't seen a dolphin all the rest of the month. Most of the human sea life is doing better, too, a lot of us had a rough go of it there for about a week. RON HOUSLEY
  8. Of course I got Garfield 71 from http://www.drumcorpsvideos.com I also got Kingsmen, SCV, Argonne, Troopers, Madison and The Cavaliers. The Jr. all girls corps I couldn't remember was The Mello-dears. RON HOUSLEY

  11. Joe meant "bare bones," but he is correct and accurate otherwise. The Kingsmen Alumni Corps Committee is doing yeoman work for no profit at all. Their hearts are truly in the right place and it is amazing how far this has come since last June's Alumni Luncheon. As big an honor as it is to once again march as a Kingsmen it is double that honor to do so with Joe Rybus and the rest of The Kingsmen Alumni Corps Committee and I have no issue with stating that in this public forum. It is truly a wonder to behold how far this has moved forward with no personal egos involved. It is the "true" Kingsmen Spirit and The Kingsmen Way. We honor our past and look forward to the future. We especially honor the late Mr. Don Porter, Sr. and his vision of what could be accomplished. It is to him, and those Kingsmen of the past, present and future that we dedicate our efforts. it was Mr. Porter who created our credo: SPECTEMUR AGENDO. "Know us by our actions," or in another translation, "Know us by our deeds." Mr. Don Porter, Sr. needs to be in the drum corps hall of fame. RON HOUSLEY
  12. It is a great honor to be able to march with The Kingsmen again after what will be 40 years in 07. RON HOUSLEY
  13. Sewage spill is over. We even have a brand new water treatment plant. But you're right, it sucks here. Never any surf, it's always foggy, the air smells like old anchovies, the clam chowder is imported and the locals are dangerously inbred.....don't come here: ever! Oh, to "land" this thread back where it belongs, I vote for Tansea: the 2007 Kingsmen Alumni Corps sex cymbal......that's what the ladies call him. I call him Mike....because that's his name. RON HOUSLEY PS: Bananas are more than good humor: they're a good source of potassium and fiber, too!
  14. http://www.drumcorpsvideos.com has a pretty good selection of all girl corps in their catalog/ I got Joanettes, Bon-Bons, St. Iggies and a couple others from 71. Highly recommended source of pre-DCI videos: both Jr. and Sr. corps from the old daze. RON HOUSLEY
  15. OK.....can't beat that with a crop duster. Except for the fact that I can DELIVER!! The coast looks pretty good this time of year, too: the Irish Hills are starting to green up nicely. Do a little whale watching out by San Luis Lighthouse? Buzz the Bakersfield tourists on the pier? Watch 'em hit the deck......such good sport. We can fly over The Honeymoon Cafe in Pismo and do a wing wave to my homies, too! Honeymoon's the one with the Fresno Ferns sticker by the door..... a sign of good eatin! The biplane is yellow, too, btw.....and never falls down at the end of a gig. RON HOUSLEY
  16. She sure takes a good picture, eh? Now I have to go watch BD 93 to see her in performance. Hey, I understand and respect female percussionists.....especially them whuts ken reed musick. RON HOUSLEY
  17. Female percussionists go to my house. We can decide later if that's heaven or ####. Sorry.....that was way too easy. Respect, RON

  20. I always liked to see pictures of The Black Knights.....that helmet was da kine headgear. RON HOUSLEY
  21. I got that lecture in high school. Got pulled out of my little parade corps until my grades came up. My home life was great but as soon as I could I left home to move down to Anaheim and join The Kingsmen. And now I can march Kingsmen Alumni Corps without a problem, though my Mother still gives me stink eye.....but just a little. RON HOUSLEY
  22. The worst was driving from Cupertino to Sacramento in my old 65 VW bug with Stan Knaub to instruct Mandarin a couple times a week back in about 72. Knaub would be singing opera (for school) at the top of his lungs the whole trip there. I finally had to wire a headphone jack into the tape deck just so I could block out the sound. On the way back he was much quieter, which I attribute to herbal remedies and duct tape. RON HOUSLEY
