  1. Since starting this thread I have researched and discovered several products that are designed to do what I have suggested....inexpensive and temporary spray products which are biodegradable, sturdy and still easily and quickly removed. As a marching member this may or may not be an issue with you but as a long time spectator I find it distracting at best. Don't we have sufficent advertising blasting at us from the entire back side of the field? It's a little like going to a broadway play and having the owner of the building's name and large logo in the middle of the back drop.....lose the logo!
  2. Is it just me or are these gigantic logos in the center of the field encredibly distracting? I am aware, for example, when I drop a bunch of cash to catch DCI Championship week in Indy that Lucas Stadium is home to the Indianapolis Colts but trying to block out or overlook that huge helmet, dead center, is a lesson in futility. Now I'm not suggesting we perform our unique art form on a totally blank canvas (after all, it's awful handy to have those hash marks to manage today's complex and intricate drill designs) but I think we deserve better. Is it inconceivable to find a way to conceal this eyesore? Possibly with a mild, washable, paint or a removable powder to match the field color....SOMETHING!

I'll talk with Markie soon. He's still a riot to be around. Congrats to you, the wife and all of Minn Brass....fantastic! It was so cool that you guys took home the gold last season. I saw MB the prior year and was incredibly impressed. Been pulling for them to break that long eastern string...NICE!

  4. The 1969 U.S. Open was one of the most memerables shows ever for me. As a member of the Kilties, we had many fine performances throughout the season and went on to win the VFW National title but THAT night in Marion was considered by many to have been our best show of the year....the night when everything comes together with an energy that is rarely matched. Give a listen to the recording (fleetwood?) of that show and you can feel the electricity. Funny, 43 years later and I can still feel the exhilaration of that performance
  5. Does anyone remember a year that a championship (American Legion, VFW or DCI) was lost on account of a penalty?
  6. As a member of the audience the night of 89 finals, we ALL felt that BD solist's pain but with all that's been made of it, BDs placement didn't change from semis to finals.
  7. If 'horns up' isn't willing to part with some of his drum corps hardware, i'm sure he can provide you with good direction
  8. I don't recall exactly where (it was 41 years ago for god's sake) but being at a small, mesquito infested stadium in Wisconsin - it may have been Wilmot, WI - where the Kilts and the Kingsmen horn lines meshed in a large arc during retreat and proceeded to play 'Mac's Park' and 'Yard' both penned by one Ken Norman. As a fourteen year old rookie in 1969, I can tell you it was one of the most gorgeous sounds I'd ever heard. Oddly, when I recently asked Ken to share his memory of that and to shed some light on the details of how that came together, he reminded me he was pulling military duty during most of that summer and never got to see it. WHAT A SHAME!! Are there any Kilts or Kingsmen out there who remember this glorious night?
  9. There was a Beatles tune crafted in that era (possibly by the same musical wizard) that the Kilties considered putting on the field in 1969 in place of "Yes, Indeed" Name that tune, who penned it, and what corps (if any) ended up playing it
