I could easily do either of those. With a slight preference for Univ of MD if only cause its closer to me.  The Annapolis trip though is a nice trip and I hope they can get back in the venue down the road.

I selfishly want it on the Virginia side of DC.  I suppose U of MD works too.  Or FedEx Field (or is it now Commander’s Field?).

ETA if in Delaware (as some advocate) I do have the US13 - Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel option that avoids DC completely.

I'm a BD homer and also love seeing other corps take the title as well. Also, just to give people an opportunity to continue arguing that BD never (Truly) threepeats, I'll make a counterintuitive prediction:

    1) Bloo

    2) Blue

    3) Boston

    4) Crown

    5 ) Mandarins

    6) Cavies

    7) Troop

    8. PR

    9) SCV

    10) BK

    11) Colts

    12) PC

    I’m ok with this prediction

Personally I had no issue with where you ranked the Mandarins. You could have ranked them 105th.

I only questioned your reasoning for their ranking, which is you believe the Mandarins benefitted from SCV not touring, which is not true.

So let me ask you this. Spartans were the 2023 OC Champs. BDB fielded a corps, but opted not to go to finals. Should we question the Spartans Gold Medal because they didn't go head-to-head with BDB?

The question that is really relevant is ‘How many 2023 Mandarins members left Mandarins to try out for 2024 SCV?’

2023 Mandarins were lightning in a bottle.  Coolest show of the year.

Chief - if it isn’t classified, can you find out how many auditioned for Mandarins this season?   I suspect they had far more auditionees than 2023.

Now the question that might get me In trouble- How many Mandarins cast-offs (who didn’t make the cut) went to SCV?

I may be able to give insight into the status of Lucas Oil Stadium while this event takes place. If I can get coverage for my parish, I’m planning on attending. Right now there are about 35,000 tickets have been sold. Mid-May through June is when the majority of tickets will be sold. The number of participants is expected to be about 80,000 with many people only participating for a day or two. The LOS events in the evening are expected to have about 60,000 participants.

      We have a spy!
    Excellent.

Well, it seems like the swimming event will be done in mid  June

if it  took a month to break it down. I think we would be fine. 😁

It isn’t just breaking down the swimming pool; it is completely replacing the turf.

My concern (based on a lot of home renovations I have done) is that they find some sort of unanticipated damage that needs to be fixed before the replacement can move forward.

Yeah when the Ft. Wayne show went Open Class only, they had trouble selling it and it disappeared from the tour.  St. Francis was a really great venue for a show though

Coming from an ‘Open Class’ background this pains my heart.

i have wondered on this. however, being in an enclosed venue, and knowing the Colts have preseason games there, they can pay to have around the clock work down

True.  But NFL has ability to move games from one team’s stadium to the other if necessary.   Usually with weather issues.

I hope LOS is ready.  But I also hope Corporate DCI has a plan in case it isn’t.

Speaking of LOS renovations- aren’t they supposed to be installing some new kind of artificial turf?  Somehow less likely to cause injuries to football players?  I wonder how it compares to the real grass or other artificial turf that the Corps march on the rest of the summer?

I think Bluecoats are going to have an absolute killer-fun show. As with many of the recent years I expect them to contend or be close.

I am excited for Blue Devils as always. Obviously I expect them to be amazing and to contend as they always do, and seeing that BD polish live, in person is a sight to behold.  I also hope the show is as fun as last season or even more so.

Looking forward to hearing the music Carolina will be playing, and same with Boston.  I absolutely LOVED Boston's music last summer. Same with Carolina. From just a music perspective those may have been my two favorite music books.

Probably the biggest question that will be on the minds of many fans is will SCV be closer to the top 4 (maybe in the top 4) or are they closer to the 5-8 crowd? I have to believe camps have gone well. The corps, despite the financial issues (etc.), is still one of the biggest brands in DCI. If the show is designed and developed well then I have to believe they can compete at a high level. Or will the likes of Mandarins, Phantom, Cavaliers be too much for a corps that had to take a year off?

I loved the Mandarins show last year and look forward to this summer. I also have a feeling the Cavaliers are going to be HOT this summer. Maybe a dark-horse for top 5. I always love me some Phantom Regiment. Just like last year and the year before I think the 5-9, even 5-10 matchups are going to be incredible. And with Troopers recruiting popularity over the recent years and their surge in ranking and quality (not to mention Colts, PC and others) I think it's from 5th to 15th that we are in for a treat this summer.

The only real predictions I can make now is that Blue Devils will contend. I think Bluecoats will be in the mix, as will Carolina and Boston. But I am curious to get a read on SCV. Good luck to all the corps as we head toward the spring training in May.

Re SCV - ‘Brand’ should have NOTHING to do with placement.  What should matter is the product on the field.  Nothing else. The design and performance is what should determine where SCV places.  They have top-notch staff. The question I have is what level of talent there is.  I can see them placing anywhere from 14th-7th.  But wherever they end up, it should be based on the performance on the field, not ‘Brand’.

They could have held a separate Top 12 in 1979 alone of just corps that played it.

    1979 Corps that played CoS:

    North Star

    Blue Stars

    Cavaliers

    Garfield Cadets

    Bengal Lancers

    Eye-Openers

    Buckeye State Caballeros

    Bleu Raiders

    Sundowners

    Rhode Island Matadors

    Wind Gap Blue Eagles

    Connecticut Hurricanes

    Source: DCX

Note - there were many small Corps back then that didn’t make it to the DCX database every year.  So there may well be additional Corps who played it.

Bluecoats coming out teasing Agape as well?!? Battle of the ballads

As BD, BC, & Mandarins have an Agape throw down, the Troopers enter the discussion with House of the Rising Sun, featuring a Johnny Cash-esque vocalist.
