When I mentioned CVS and the urgent care facilities in my area, I was not endorsing CVS, I was mentioning why Walmart Health has not established itself in my area just yet. Actually if Yelp reviews are to be believed, CVS Minute Clinics are not great either and my one experience at a Minute Clinic is not a ringing endorsement. People can disagree about whether Walmart Health is a good option, but I don’t feel that mentioning that some Walmart pharmacies are understaffed and at least in one case was closed for a week is a political position.

I have been CVS minute clinics and never had an issue.  Here I think they are Advocate health care systems.

these are licensed independent practitioners contracted to provide services under the collective Walmart Health banner, no different than any other retail health clinics like CVS, RiteAid, etc. or  even traditional health systems operating off-campus clinics.  Given ready access to telemedicine and on-site facilities given WM's expansive presence nationwide, this is a good arrangement IMO

    This.

    Top hit: https://evawintl.org/best_practice_faqs/false-reports-percentage/

Feel free to post international, reliable sources reflecting otherwise.

Best practice is to protect reporters first, then investigate.

You're a broken record because you're not bringing in any resources that counter best practices and research. These state that the criminal justice system often retraumatizes survivors, which is a huge factor in their decision to go to authorities or not.

I've never said don't go to the police. It's part of the many possible responses a reporter can take.

Coming down hard on a survivor for assuming they didn't take the step you think they should isn't helpful.

I don't disagree here. But I do have the heart to sympathize with young people who may not understand that. I don't jump down their throats for not thinking like a fully grown adult who knows the full spectrum of options available to them. To do otherwise would be retraumatizing, which I do my best not to engage in.

Find me something not 10+ years old.  Also, it does happen.

Best practice is to NOT go on social media but to open a Police report.

I would like to clarify this latest Reddit, am I mistaken this is someone that isn't actually involved is reporting this?  This seemed 3rd person?

Depends if they ARE a survivor; see my question.  I haven't come down on anyone.

Ew. Now the post has been removed by mods. That's gotten increasingly rare over there so I'm a bit surprised. OP and subsequent posters are reporting really bad stuff...

I think what people don't understand is 1. how rare false accusations are statistically and 2. even in the rare case it's false, the reporters and org still have a very serious problem on their hands that shouldn't be censored automatically.

    1000 yikes!

My first post on reddit reporting my abuse was censored as well so I feel for OP on that way as well.

    1. I dunno anymore about that.

    2. They absolutely needed to quash that.  Even IF it is true you can't just accuse people without due process.  I feel like a broken record with you on this.  There is a right way to go about this and it's the police.  If you can go on social media, you can file a report with the police.

If you are going on reddit without filing a police report and are encouraging this...just no.  You can actually hurt your case doing this.

If DCI were an official National Governing Body via USCSS or a SSI entity, they would probably by liable for all this and more.

I imagine that's why there's not an open push for them to become one.

... to the detriment of members, staff, alumni, and volunteers.

Well, to be fair they are only given powers that the corps want.  Also, we HAVE laws to protect people at the local level.  The problem is getting those that are wronged to USE those laws.  I would even argue that if it's fixed locally and immediately is a MUCH better solution for everyone.  I can't imagine dragging this out (for the person wronged) does anyone any good.  I would hope the culture of hiding abuse is being reversed and that we start using these laws rather than shaming yourself into silence.  Easier said than done I am sure but even IF DCI had these powers, if it's never looked into by the proper authorities we are back to square one.

You can't make a statement like this and say a few sentences later "let it play out in court". Not unless a judge dismisses dci as a defendant.

But yeah, dci's lawyers def wont want dci saying anything about this.

And for decades dci kept the mo of doing everything possible to avoid being culpable as a governing body when it comes to cases of abuse, always shifting the argument to say each member corps is in charge of policing itself.  Truly disgusting and cowardly in every way. They didn't take an active role in getting those policies enacted activity-wide until they had no choice but to do so.  Rational adults should be scrutinous of the degree to which they're actually being enforced.

Bit harsh.  DCI has so little power..even less so BITD.  It's not like they wield amazing executive powers.  They may very well be not culpable according to their very limited powers and scope.

I know - I worked there. The Glass Door reviews are legit.

not sure how the law works regarding ‘not a corps function’.

example: everyone from the office goes out to the bar after work for dinner and drinks. The ceo assaults you in the parking lot. Is it ‘not a work’ function?  I don’t know the line and I guess that’s for the courts to decide.

Civil courts are WAY different.  I hope no one here ever has to go through that hell.  Basically, in criminal courts you are innocent until proven guilty.  In civil you are guilty until you prove you are innocent.

the problem is raising the max membership limit is hurting. even at 150, most at the top weren't full. now you add 15 more to that count?

One of the reasons that the lower limit was probably a better decision.  I get 128 was because of buses but kids that could and would have marched elsewhere allowed even more advantage to corps better off or known.

Kids are so good at internet searches, I’m sure openings could be found with little trouble by going to particular corps sites,  and inquiring directly.  Plus they could see what the summer may look like schedule wise, as well as any other questions they may have.

Yes, but when someone went through the trouble of counting openings why not just publish the sources?  Hell, there may even be corps no one knows about close by.

Those last four words, though, might not pan out.  It seems that modern drum corps non-profits interested in serving less affluent youth are doing that by developing separate program offerings that are not drum corps (and therefore, are not as inaccessibly expensive).

So separate and not equal?  Seems kind of a backwards step.  Anyhow, I just hope Bloo gets a better costume/uniform designer this year.

I have no quibble with this post.  I would only add that even if the sheets had not changed 1994-2000, all the rest might have transpired anyway.

I dunno about that.  Corps that want to play the game follow the score.  Writing music for visual vs visual written for the music.  I will take the second every time.  The first will be disjointed no matter what you do.  Yes, I know some will say it's "so advanced and integrated now" that there is no line....to that I say nonsense.
