  1. Sounds good, can't wait to see it! Is there any more info on the show?
  2. I've used the brand Avia for the past few years and I've had no problem with them. I find them quite comfortable and have the right amount of support and flexibility I need.
  3. Hrothgar15- I just want to put my .02 in. Whether I agree or disagree with your opinions doesn't matter on what I'm about to say. We all know you have your opinions, and obviously most of the people here don't particularly agree with them. Instead of continuously replying back trying to redeem yourself in the slightest bit, I'd say it's just better at least let this topic go, (which you might be doing) which is good. (And this is no way a personal attack, just some friendly advice.) And sorry if this is a repeat of what anyone's said so far, it's late and theres a lot of posts on this topic, so I might have missed one.
  4. Maybe the poster made it all up initially to create some nice, civilized conversation!
  5. Yes, they are getting away from the Broadway-themed shows. I agree, after one year, its too much. (In my opinion.) It's more of a latin jazz show if anything. Hence the name, "Passions of a Latin Groove." I don't know if we're releasing the names of our songs publicly yet, so I'm going to leave that to... someone else. Just in case. =)
  6. If I lived in my perfect world I'd have about an hour to warmup, like at drumcorps. Like including breathing, etc. But by myself I probably take about 20-25 minutes. And shorter if I don't have time.. prolly 5ish would at least get my chops going. But yeah, I am hopefully going to be getting lessons from a staff member from Citations (Chris McGann) a few times a month. Hopefully that'll work out. *crosses fingers*
  7. When I practice at my house, I spent a lot of time warming up. (actually thats the most I do.) Then after that I look around in my Arban's book for things I want to work on. And when my lips start to hurt, I play a few low notes then put my trumpet away. Unfortunately though, when I'm in school (I take band as a class), I can't just decide to put my trumpet away when my lips start to hurt. Because most of the songs we play kill my lips entirely especially if there are limited rests in the song, and I can't play at all by the end. And I know this is bad, but theres nothing I can do about it. And I trust my teacher to know what she's doing, but I feel like I am doing something wrong, or maybe not.
  8. Thanks everyone for the help. Like I said in the other forum (the RIGHT one... lol) I'll bring these posts up to help me out.
  9. Thanks everyone for the advice. Next time I take out my trumpet, prolly Moday, I'll bring up these posts and try out a few things.. see what works, etc. I really didn't think that this many people would respond. :) I suppose it would have been a good idea to tell a little more information. I've been playing trumpet since 7th grade. (I'm in 10th grade now.) I've done every season of everything since then. My rookie year of drum corps was in '04, and I've done marching band, concert band, jazz band, then back to drum corps and the cycle continues to this day. I play on a gold Bach 5C. I liked the 5C and the gold was softer on my lips than the silver one. (I don't know if theres an actual difference between the two, but to me it seems so.) My trumpet is a Kanstul Custom Class. I bought it a few years ago from the Blue Coats. I have a good tone, and I do lip slurs well, seeing as I do them like crazy. The sight reading is all right, could be better, but I have improved a lot. I've wanted to take private lessons, but I haven't had time between my job (which is currently non-exsistant at this moment) , school, band, and winterguard. When I get my license and when things slow down, I'm pretty sure I'm going to find a teacher to help me, probably next year. Hope this helps for any more advice.
  10. I accidentally posted this is the wrong forum initially.. -- I play trumpet and I'm looking for a few ways to help expand my range and help my endurance. I know lip slurs help, but is there anything else that helps anyone else here with range? I can play comfortably to about a C above the staff. Along with range help, does anyone have any ideas for endurance? Especially mid-range, it kills my lips. Does anyone else have this problem/ does anyone know how to help it? Thanks for any help.
  11. I use Blistex medicated. (The green tube) I've tried DCT, but it just doesnt do anything for me. It does have an inactive ingredient of camphor, but I've heard DCT does too somewhere. But don't quote me.
  12. Oh ok. Apparently theres a lot of goats lol
  13. Haha, when did the homeless guy happen? .. and where was i?? lol Remember during horn arc in Indiana those kids tried to conduct w/ Pete? That was amusing after a lot of drill. Yeah during a parade, me and Trevor (when we could go into the crowd and right up to them etc) went right like inbetween people and they were like WOW.. it was so funny. Hrm, I dont know who else does this but after a long rehearsal and my feet hurt i sit with my legs crossed (like in "pretzel-style") with the bottom of my foot facing up and then rub it with my elbow... like in circles and stuff. It probably sounds kind of weird but it definetly works for me and makes my feet stop hurting a little bit.
