  1. Nothing like seeing your son or daughter march DCI cherish it my friend, those times pass by quick. Good luck to your son and all the other participants. Maybe there should be a tread on where the best place to sit is with amplification. Some corps are bringing the amps closer to the fifty, Bluecoats have one on the fifty and others on the 43 to name a few. We like to sit down low for best sound but that may be changing.

  2. TCF Bank Stadium, The Dome at America's Center, & Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Will any of them match the acoustics of The Alamodome? I think the higher seating area along the back of the Alamodome does wonders for the sound.

Glad the old dome in Atlanta is gone. The red seats coming down that low to the field played havoic on my video rendering at home.

Also being there live or watching on FLO can make a particular venue can sound better or worse and can flip flop sounds better on FLO than live in some cases and the opposite for other venues although you can't really reproduce the sight & sound of being there..

  3. No opinion here just a question what is the purpose of the Vanilla Hersey Kisses props? I assume they will be worked more into the show going forward. I like the show for the tremendous talent but the uniforms, costumes or the more trendy term attire makes them look more like bugs than beasts. However the stripe and tail in the back should be aiding GE like Boston's stripe in the front did last year. Maybe this is somewhat of an opinion but overall this is a great show.

  4. From the 2 BD shows on Flo did they change the ending of the ballad from a mid range build up of horns to a single screamer? I became familiar with the ballad because it leaked from the Dave Brubeck Park practice on YouTube. The first Flo show and the practice seem to have a different ending than the Rose Bowl? Like them both but the screamer at the end of the show now sounds the same as the ballad ending.

  5. Good description chop and bop style heard it called yaking back and forth as well. Short choppy notes that do not lead to any melody looses me no madder how many squilligy legs occur.
New innoviations like the trombones and singing have been at the expense of trumpet  mellophone, and baratione solos.

Amplifiation how much  attention is spent on a balanced (right/left) projection throughout the seating area. Rock groups keep logs on the most optium speaker placement at each venue.

Then there is Lucas Oil Stadium with sound bouncing off the infurstructure all over the place before it arrives at your ears. Early on dci did what it could to improve acoustics . Opening the roof was an option but came at a huge expense and then there are weather concerns that I am glad we do not have to deal with.

At the time Dan mansplanned this to us by saying that human bodies (folks in the seats) are the best thing to absorb the sound.  Maybe Dan thought he was back in the Rose Bowl where that does occur but it is a pipe dream for Lucua Oil.

  6. DCA isn't the best marketers in the world so it is buried in the News section on their site but  way back to April so you need to scroll down. Also says they are showing Mini Corps (to keep track of Jim)

Drum Corps Associates is pleased to announce our partnership with BOX5 Media for the 2018 Championships in Williamsport PA!   BOX5 will be providing live streaming for our Peckville show as well as Prelims and Finals over Labor Day Weekend.   In addition BOX5 will include coverage of the Alumni Spectacular, Mini Corps and I&E highlights. We are excited to have to opportunity to provide expanded coverage for the 2018 season!

  7. Live near Kansas City a few years ago they had TOC shows in Warrensburg MO at Central Missouri U. Sold out every year schools from all over the area used their school buses to bring the kids there. Our schools in Blue Springs & Grain Valley are dci friendly look forward to watching them practice every year. Have attended shows in Ogden UT and found the same parade of school buses. Knowing the history of Northern NJ from growing up in Drum Corp there they pushed the Corps out by not allowing them a place to practice and have shows. I believe the affects of that back then and still today has/is affecting the quality of musical education coming out of that state. DCI has long out grown Clifton Stadium where next week there will be a DCI and DCA show there a few days apart, size of that stadium limits exposure only other choice is Giants Stadium that is overpriced for Drum Corps events . I used to think real America began in Pennsylvania but now folks don't even want to go there.

  8. Does the reduced judging panels mostly in the mid-west and east coast play into this? Full size panels yield more input for the corps to dissect and work into their practice routines. Seems that is the real bias, more input early in the season. I understand this will be corrected next year. Not taking anything away from SCV, BD or Mandarins they will work just as hard regardless of the amount of input and be the best they can be always. I do however think the added input does help some of the west's open class corps.

  9. Thank You That's Good News. Agree it's always about the money still could have been fair if all the full panels kicked in at the same time of the season, may have even saved more money and been inclusive. However the way it has been administered (over many years) it is anything but inclusive constantly favoring the west. I get the money part but there may be more than that? Ironic that I do not even stay/watch the scores they are all winners on my sheet.

  10. I get that tour fees do not particularly pay the judges but it is implied that they will be there and when the parent organization does not care if they are creating an equal playing field that is a problem. With scores broken down to hundredths of a point input from the judges in week 2 instead of week 5 impacts the overall achievement. It's been an issue for years and should be addressed. Last year when Dan Acheson was interviewed about FLO he said he wished he could work these kids every night but is not fostering a fair and balanced approach which is short sighted and non-inclusive.

  11. Maybe not for this show but if anything the tour fees are justified by the members through performance guidance and instructions from the staff and input from the judges. Then dci steps in and reduces the judging panel at some shows, do the members get a rebate does the reduced cost for the show get passed along in performance fees or does the parent organization just pocket the money? Another example of dci being just a large mansplaining organization that answers to no one and does not really care if the corps get an equal amount of input early in the season or at any time for that matter.
