  1. Well, I found that piece on RAMD archives. It was part of a discussion about Winky and Butch from September 10, 2003 . And Winky leading the wedge!!! I can see that in my minds eye. I would give anything to see a color, w/sound video of it. I loved him in "Puttin On The Ritz" I always picture Winky walking toward the audience (away from the corps in concert formation) while they repeat that five note, gradually softening riff that might have been G-F-E-D-C. Then he hesitates as the music stops and waits for the 5 tinks on the cymbal. (Tink-tink-tink-tinktink) He leaps in the air and turns as the corps explodes into the POTR theme and brings the crowd to their feet. As the song reaches it's rousing conclusion he brings the horns down, turns to face the audience, flashes that million candlepower smile and acknowledges the corps. I'd give almost anything to see that again. Donnie "NanciD" <Nan...@att.net> wrote in message
  2. That's a keeper! As usual, your rhymes paint a picture and capture the essence of your subject. You and Mario Navetta should be world famous writers. I'd buy all your books.
  3. I posted on here not too long ago about how I saw him at DCA"s in 1995. He was on a wheelchair or some type of gurney. Mike Siglow was tending to him. Even though I had been a fan for 30 years I had never met him. I bought a program and asked him if he would sign it for me. He looked a little surprised and said "Sure". I was in the Buccaneers hornline that year and I was in uniform. It took a while but he managed to scratch W-I-N-K on my program. I said "Thanks" and he gave me a smile. That was the same smile Ace Holleran talked about when he related how as a youngster he and some of his friends were watching Sky practice and Winky came by and said "Hi fellas". Ace said the smile lit up his day and his life for years afterward. Some time ago on RAMD I wrote a little piece about Walter Winkleman conducting the Skyliners to "Puttin on the Ritz" and what a great memeory it is. I remember mentioning the Winkleman smile but I don't think I could duplicate the piece again. I suspect Andy Lisko might have saved it. If he did I would hope he would post it here while we're talking about Winky. Donnie Because there was always something about the Skyliners.....and that music!
  4. Don't forget "Halfway to Paradise" 1961 My personal favorite was the remake of Jerry (Iceman) Butler's "He don't Love You" (Like I Love You) in 1975.
  5. Tony Orlando and Dawn (Telma Hopkins & Joyce Vincent) disbanded in 1977 . Orlando had some kind of a nervous breakdown when his best friend Freddie Prinze committed suicide. The group reunited in 1988 and sold out a lot of concerts but never had another top 40 hit. TO&D broke up again in 1993. The girls still do a lot of background recording. Tony is selling oldies. (DIGITALLY REMASTERED:-))
  6. I forget where it was but seeing him and Butch side by side in their chairs was a milestone reality check for me! It was one of those moments when I became even more aware of my own mortality!
  7. I don't remember anyone else ever doing that either. I was at that show and remember it well. Actually it was in Waverly, NY 8/5/67. The Herkimer show was in June. Here are the scores; Herkimer Cavalcade of Music 6/10/67 Bucs 84.60 Sky 80.10 Brigs 79.30 Cru 77.36 Commanders 76.35 Le Dips 74.91 Waverly Tournament of Champions8/5/67 Bucs 82.55 Hurcs 81.55 Cru 79.65 Sky 78.07 Archie 66.65
  8. Ok we all know who it is, so I'm going to identify him - James Cagney!!
  9. I finally got to meet her last year at championships. She introduced herself while the Bucs were performing their victory concert. A very pleasant and attractive lady indeed!
  10. Did Dave Pfeffer play any solos that year? I always loved Tony's arrangement of "One Voice" I wasn't in the hornline in 1980 but I was happy I got to play i with the alumni years later!
  11. Okey dough-key! Just got back from Scranton. Great show! I haven't been getting the links to this thread in my email. Don't know why.
  12. Might be Joe too. I talked to him at the Serenade in Harrisburg. Donnie
  13. I believe that bass drummer might have been George Taylor. We still see him now and then. Where's the Oz these days? He would know for sure Spelling
  14. I'm there someplace! The scores; Sky 84.956 Hurcs 83.933 Bucs 83.583 Cabs 83.516 Dips 77.066
  15. Tony & Donna, Congrats to the love birds on your anniversary! Now for cryin out loud, what's that you're holding in the picture?
  16. Thank you dear This thread is educational & fun! That it is
  17. I'm having a senior moment. Were the Mission Drums and later the World Open contests in the same stadium?
  18. I can't remember if Nedicks was the name of the orange drink, the hot dogs or the restaurant. Some years ago I saw one on the turnpike but I don't know if it survived. I think they were trying to franchise them. Yep, love those Lance PB crackers too.
  19. Waaaaay Nedicks at the 69th St. Terminal in Upper Darby had great hot dogs when I was kid in Philly. I don't think they're around anymore. As for all these other brands, the only one I recognize is Sabrett's. For 15 years I peddled the five boroughs and Long Island, NY. I had several places scoped out where I knew I could get the rig parked near a blue and yellow umbrella. Seagirt Blvd in Far Rockaway, Linden Blvd in Brooklyn, Sunrise Hwy in Amityville (I got tattooed there once) and several other places that I can't recall. Two of those rubbery hot dogs dripping with mustard along with a lukewarm Yoo-Hoo was a feast I looked forward to and enjoyed every time I was in the area. I deliberately never looked at the water. Ah - the memories
  20. An orange "double breasted" suit no less Is that a bible he's holding? I'm guessing Billy Graham on graduation day from divinity school.
