  1. You still don't get it. It's not about BD...it's about the people who sold BD the rights to perform and record their music. "Free concert" or not, the rights to broadcast a recording of the music is NOT "free". BD had to pay for that right and so should YOU!
  2. It's become an argument of ethics at this point. There are people on here who think the deserve free entertainment without paying for the service of the entertainer and it's exactly the reason so many professionals in the industry need to find a second income or another line of work all together. Typical lazy America...wanting a free hand out!
  3. Doesn't matter. Not the issue. Doesn't matter. Not the issue. Doesn't matter. Not the issue. Again, the issue is that those who own the rights the the music have a product the sell and if someone broadcasts or performs the work without paying for it, they are stealing. Are you SERIOUS? "WHY"? Because the artist/composer makes his or her LIVING off of the product. It's a business for crying out loud. THERE HAS to be a monopoly on it or every entertainer on the planet would entertain FOR FREE! Do you think that would be fair in light of the fact that when you really take a good look at the amount of work (say for example) a composer goes through to create his or her product...he or she actually comes out to be one of the hardest working people in the world. THE ENTERTAINER DESERVES THE MONEY FOR HIS OR HER PRODUCT! NOBOFDY DESERVES to enjoy it without paying for it! PERIOD! Get Blue Devils out of the picture. The issue is not about them (and I think that is where you and others are missing the point). The issue is those who own the rights to the music they play and have RELEASED the rights TO THEM because THEY PAYED FOR IT!
  4. NOT THE ISSUE! It doesn't matter if he is or if he isn't making money off of the broadcast because the issue is...those who own the copyright laws are LOSING money because the "rights" are also a part of the product itself. Going back to the "grocery store" paralell...if I went in and shoplifted a grocery store, would it matter what I did with the merch after I left the store? No. I could choose not to sell it and heck...throw it in the nearest trash can. Either way it doesn't matter because the store is losing money because of the CRIME committed. If someone wants to broadcast a performance of the music that the Blue Devils are playing, they need to pay for the rights to do so just like the Blue Devils did. Whether they intend to make a profit off of it or not is NOT THE ISSUE!
  5. Maybe you should ask this question to a composer or recording artist who is on his last financial limb and needs to find a new profession due to illegal downloads, illegal transcribing and arranging and the lack of desire among the lazy consumer to actually pay for entertainment...even though the consumer's lazy choices are illegal and putting the artist out of business. ARE YOU JOKING? Of course it's a big deal! It's actually considered a CRIME to break copyright laws.
  6. Then he should use the words "feel strongly" instead of "know" and "100%". Never said he wasn't entitled to "feel that way". I'm just pointing out the foolishness of the use of the words "know" and "100%" in a thread that is simply meant to be a matter of "opinion" and not fact. That's like hitting a guy over the head with a club and then telling him "not to say ouch". If you want me to not take his prediction so "seriously", then tell him not to make his prediction so "serious". By his use of the word "know" and "100%", he is commanding that I do take him "serious" because he is stating his views as "fact" and not "opinion". Again, all I am trying to do is point out the foolishness of his word choices. Nobody "knows" anything about the outcome of 07 finals. It's fun to predict but lets not get carried away in how we present our predictions (which is something I believe he is doing).
  7. First: You don't strike me as an "old school purist" so I wouldn't take my statement too personally. SECOND: I used my post to make somewhat of a prognostication of what I might see PRIOR to reading it as a test to see if I might be correct or not in thinking that many posters on this forum are rather "fickle"...so I don't know that you can exactly throw the "hypocrisy bone" back at me because I did make clear that it WAS only an assumtion and intended as such. However, I have now read the rest of the thread and am so far pleasently surprised to see that the "consistency" that I thought may be lacking in people's "varying opinions" is actually not as bad as I thought. It seems as though the "modernists" are the ones who don't like it (like yourself...which is at least consistant with what should be the case) and the purists...well....by the looks of the signatures are not really anywhere to be found on this thread yet. But the thread is also still young. So, I'll hold on to my prognostication for at least a little longer before I retract.
  8. I have not read more than the first post of this thread but I will bet any some of money that if I do read further...I will see that some of the same "old school purists" who complain that "the activity does not have enough variety and that corps do not have enough individual character and personality" are knocking the Blue Knights technique because it's so "out of the norm". And the fickleness and hypocrisy of so many DCP posters continues...
  9. They shouldn't have to announce it. People should have enough common sense to know that the way the entertainment industry works is that if you have not paid for the rights to broadcast a piece of music and you do so anyway, you are breaking copyright laws and stealing from the industry. If we are going to adhear to your logic, maybe I should stop by the nearest grocery store and shoplift a bunch of food. HEY! "They didn't make any kind of announcement when I walked that I couldn't". SHEESH! Think with some common sense, PLEASE!
  10. The key word in that last sentence you wrote is the word "you" ("you" being "The Blue Devils"). If the Blue Devils have payed for the rights of the music, they can broadcast it however they want but it can only be THEM that broadcast it. Whether it's broadcast on "Youtube" or "BlueView" is not the issue. The issue is that the Blue Devils reserve the right to broadcast and anyone else outside the organization who tries to broadcast the Blue Devils performing the music is breaking copyright laws and is essentially STEALING! More simply put: The Blue Devils payed for the right to broadcast the music...The poster who tried to broadcast it on YouTube has not.
  11. Dude, since my sarcasm has not worked in making my point...allow me to put it more "bluntly". NO! You do not "know" ANYTHING regarding the outcome of 2007 finals with "100%" certainty because it has not happened yet. You have an OPINION but that is all you have.
  12. (giggle) Could be. But at least I admit it. Unlike some who must shout from the mountain tops *gets dramatic voice ready* what they absolutely "KNOW!!!!" and that everyone else is "WRONG!!!!!"
  13. I'm sorry, but I think you need to learn to recognize sarcasm and intended obnoxiousness when you see it.
  14. WOW! REALLY? You "know" this? That's amazing!!!! Can you PM me with your copy of the recaps for 07 finals? I would love to see how everything else pans out. Obviously only YOU have the answers so please enlighten me on a PM with these FACTS so that I too may share in this exclusive "knowledge". Funny too...not only did you say that you "know" that they won't actually PLACE 7th...but you said that they won't place "ANYWHERE NEAR" 7th. QUESTION: Were you around in 06? They sure weren't too far from 7th then! Two placements away. In 1991 they were 6th. Don't think it can't happen.
  15. Another one. Nothing against "Academy" (and I'm not going to say you are "WRONG" either hahaha) but seriously...go watch their DVD from last year and compare it to any of the Division I corps from last year. They would fit somewhere just below Semis. NOWHERE EVEN CLOSE to finals level. Could they improve? Sure. But I don't see it being that drastic though. Could I be...."wrong" (giggle)....sure...but right now since I don't have the recaps in front of me, I have to think realisticly. Oh sure...someone now is going to say "but you have SCV going from 6th to 1st". Yes, I do. I think that is a little more realistic than a corps like The Academy (who is NOT at the level of "Magic" the year they won Division II then made finals in Division I) to jump straight into finals after a year where if they were in Division I would have struggled to make semis.
  16. I'm sorry but I think you are "wrong".
  17. "Wrong" "WRONG AGAIN" "WRONG AGAIN"! "WRONG WRONG WRONG I SAY"! YER ALL JUST "WRONG"!
  18. "Wrong"? I can understand if you "DISAGREE"...but..."WRONG"? OHHHHHH YEAH!!!!!! I forgot. You have the recaps for the 2007 DCI Championship Finals already! Silly old me!
  19. Yoy may have noticed that I also skipped 17th place and went straight to 19th. OOPS! 18th was where I intended Southwind. Sorry about that, I'll go fix it now.
  20. Before anyone accuses me of inconsistency, some of this might be a change from my previous predictions... 1. Santa Clara Vanguard (Yep, you read that right...I just have this funny feeling...and you have to admit that they always seem to win at the least expected times) 2. Phantom Regiment 3. Blue Devils 4. Cavaliers (bound to drop out of the top 2 eventually) 5. Bluecoats 6. Carolina Crown 7. Cadets (it's happened before) 8. Blue Knights 9. Boston Crusaders 10. Spirit 11. Colts 12. Crossmen ------------------------ 13. Madison Scouts 14. Glassmen 15. Seattle Cascades 16. Mandarins 17. Blue Stars ------------------------ 18. Southwind 19. Academy (I've said it before. Way too much hype for this corps. Reality is, they are not ready. And they will be lucky to even place this high) 20. Troopers (See statement regarding The Academy) 21. Pacific Crest 22. Pioneer (a no brainer) Edited on 5/15/07 to move Cascades from 17th to 15th after seeing May Video
  21. "Heaven"? Is it the Los Lonely Boys/Salvador tune called "Heaven"?
  22. ...or make your significant other take care of them for you. B)
  23. Start getting yourself into the drum corps routine now. When I marched, I always tried to find at least one day over the weekend (as all day rehearsals got closer) to basically do my own "all day". If you have a day here and there where you have that kind of time...get up at about the time you would for all days. Eat the type of breakfast you would eat on the road (for some, that might be a challenge in and of itself). Then, do three sets of four hour practice blocks. Do a visual block, a music block and then something resembling an "ensemble" block in the evening. Also, I highly recomend practicing outside if at all possible to get used to that environment...heat and all. I realize that if you are playing, that might not be wise if your neighbors are the complaining type. But, at the very least...you can do any visual stuff outdoors. If you are not ashamed of being seen by friends and neighbors, you might even go to the nearest high school with a football field and work some of your drill sets (if you have them already, I know some corps don't start until all days). Another idea...and this is more for the sake of touring. Get your body used to the different sleeping habits you will have on tour. One night, sleep on the floor. The next night, sleep on a chair (as if you were on the bus). May not be the type of "home comfort" you would want away from drum corps but believe me when I say, you will handle it much better on the road if you start living as though you are on tour already. Trust me, this is what I did every year after my rookie year because that first year was a killer. I know it seems pretty die hard but you will feel much better come summer...while everybody else is going "crap, what am I doing to myself"! Hope that helps.
  24. That's why you should never consult corps members (teenagers) on an issue like that. As if they have the maturity to make the right decision in a case like that. I fault the director for that one. It's his corps, take charge for crying out loud!
  25. While I respect the moderator's decision to remove the original topic, what a shame that my story from yesterday went away with it because it was very eye opening and revealing. I'm not posting it again though. Too much time and energy and today I don't have the kind of time that I've had the past few days.
