Hi Everyone! We are looking to add a staff member or two to our winter guard program. We have great kids who love to learn. We will be in the Midwest Color Guard Circuit in SRA or SA (not sure yet). Thanks!

From really close up you can see a differance in texture..but it is not noticeable from the stands.

We use outdoor flat and it never chips. We duct taped our floor togther we went around it twice and it stayed togther fine. we used white tape and then painted over it.

Thanks for the ideas! They have to do two page in times new romen size 12 and they have one week to do it or they are suspended.

My kids have broken the rules a lot less after I added in the demerit system. Most of the time it's for small things chewing gum and what not. Last year I did have them work it off buy cleaning the guard room ect but I have to be present for stuff like that and why should I be punished too? I have very little free time and would rather spend it at home with my hubby then watching kids clean out the guard room. Also many of my kids also have jobs and trying to pick a day and time we could both come in was not easy. I also feel they would learn more writting an essay then cleaning up the room or stamping music for the band director.

Guard is not a class at our school so I can not dock grades. Last year they had to work them off but that means I have to take time out of my life to supervise. I work full time so I do not have time to sit at the school for an hour for them to work it off. This was the best thing I could come up with. I am hoping with the topics I have they will be learning more about guard.

This year my students who recive demerits for breaking our handbook rules will be required to write a two page essay. I have several topics but I need a few more any sugestions? Here are the topics I have so far for them to choice from: Why does missing rehearsal hurt me? How missing rehearsal hurts my team. Why do I want to be in Color Guard? The history of Color Guard What is team work? Why is it important in Color Guard? How is Marching Band Color Guard different then ROTC Color Guard? What are the purpose of fundraisers? What are some fundraising ideas? What is the importance of good nutrition and healthy eating habits for Color Guard Members? Who is Dr. William Revelli? Why is he an important part of our bands history? The History of WGI (Winter Guard International) Explain why Color Guard is called “The sport of the Arts” What are your strengths and weakness in Color Guard. What can you do to improve your weaknesses? Reason why some should join Color Guard. How has being in the Color Guard changed you?

Thanks for the advice. Dance Dance this is my 2nd year at this school. I took over right after band camp last year no rules or policys where in place. This year I have a handbook and code of conduct that they must sign so I do hope that helps. Most of the issues is that the old instructor was never around and it was a free for all. We are hoping to change that. Thank again for the replies!

Sorry about my spelling....I'm so angry I can't see it spell!

Anytime we plan events such as a trip to watch WGI reginals or to see DCI or even to go to a clinic my seniors seem to blow it off and find excusses not to go. They have no idea what is outside our circute nor do they seem to care. They say they want to be good and work hard but it all talk no action. They would rather have fun and mess around at rehearsals and blame everyone else for not having a good show. This past WG season they complained the show was to easy yet it was never clean and they made the same mistakes over and over and over no matter how many times we corrected it. How do we get them to see the big picture? How do we change these attitudes and keep it from running of on our underclassmen??? We are all so frusterated with them right now.
