Drum corps lately cannot go ONE off-season without any drama, apparently.

Edit: looks like a local inner city youth program for a great cause.
Funny how much of a friend Google is.
I remember competing against a kid in an NYC corps called Kips Bay when I began my drum corps career. 6 years later, that kid (Tim Greene) and I wound up marching Cadets together. Corps like these are needed to get inner city kids into drum corps. It wasn't easy when I did it.

The affiliation seems to be largely with the fire department. I would like to see a bit more of a business plan and when they plan to compete etc., but it's a start!
Why?

Based on the most recent tax return filing which ran from 11/01/2020 - 10/31/2021 (So this is the covid celebration year), the organization able to collect donations and revenue from various operations to make money. They were able to grow cash balances, although they are small in my opinion. Financially they appear okay.
Based on local rumor mills they seem to be fine and are collecting donations. And I do know there is a big effort amongst the board and those associated with the board locally here in Erie attempting to gain corporate sponsors from businesses in Erie. Including some that would be extremely beneficial to the corps.
All things considered, The Cadets appear to be doing well here in Erie and are prepared for the next year.
This. is. FANTASTIC. news.

Probably off topic, but I compare all ballads to Cadets 2005 "Dancer in the Dark". That, to me, was the best ballad I have ever heard, as well as maybe the best choreographed (with the battery moving backwards getting farther and farther back), yet there was no problem with timing back to front. Such perfect demand.
That was a GREAT Ballad. Personally, I prefer Canterbury Chorale. That release at the end was magnificent.

Personally, I want some uniforms that reflect Cadets' classiness. After 2023 and how well they performed that show, I'm looking forward to what Cadets bring next year.

Well, I guess it's a good thing I'm not going to finals since DC decided to give me Jury duty starting tomorrow.

So happy what I thought about the Cadets weeks ago is coming to fruition. This is a top 5 show. I hope they can hold on and pull it off next week.
You and me both.

Cadets are clearly channeling their inner being and manifesting a rising season. Last night's show was fantastic for them. Great job.

I know I've been hard on Cadets, primarily due to that ridiculous uniform, but I have to say I'm excited for their success this season. They really are coming out and putting their hearts on the field. Looking forward to seeing where they end up.

There are times when I love my job, and days last night where I hate the fact that it made me miss the show.
Good job with that percussion section! I wish I hadn't missed the show.

Why haven’t they demoted Jersey Surf to Open Class? It would be fair. Seattle Cascades is struggling this season but at least they tour with everyone else and it’s only their first season back so they’re growing. Spirit of Atlanta was lucky to have a successful first year back but we can respect it’s taking Seattle Cascades a little longer.
Jersey Surf has been here years and done nothing productive to advance the activity. Why are they still somehow a World Class Corps?
If it weren't for Surf, I wouldn't have marched Cadets, wouldn't have done so well in the Navy, and probably wouldn't have the life I have now.

Corps have been at that level...Cadets, Cavaliers and SCV. Unfortunately they are no longer for whatever reason.
Emphasis on "have been." BD continually stays at that level. I think we all know what happened with Cadets. I can't speak on Cavies and SCV, but the point is BD's formula works for them and they have been consistent with it AND have been consistently great.

Probably should just accept Blue Devils being #### good and if anyone is going to catch them, they better be #### better than BD.

I wasn't at my computer reading comments earlier in the show so I might have missed this. I'm curious what your opinion is on the Cadets new ending.
I'm a huge fan of Cadets this season and my mom said if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all, so I won't out of respect. I will say I was a huge fan of the drill in the original ending.
You're a Cadets alumnus so please feel free to ignore this question if it puts you in an awkward position.
I haven't seen it yet. I don't have a flo membership so I was just reading the thread. I guess at some point it'll be posted somewhere.

Well it's always nice to wake up to terrible news.
Hope to see them back in 2025.
But this will apparently become the norm for the activity so it is what it is.
