I know it’s cool to hate on Flo, and I’m NOT saying they’re perfect, but it’s probably the best/most affordable option we’re gonna have for watching shows. The Fan Network wasn’t sustainable and if memory serves correctly, the quality wasn’t really all that great there either. Again, I’ll be the first to admit that Flo has #### the bed on a few occasions BUT some of you take the b*tching a little too far. Let’s just be happy we don’t have to settle for watching a vertical Periscope video of a show with Nancy screaming “wooooooooo” every time her child does something cool.

Honestly, I have had minimal issues with Flo...I'm thankful it is an option. Otherwise, I wouldn't get to see many shows. Not to mention the fact that I get to see finals!

I'm struggling to see why this even needs to be bought up. We're all the same in DC whether we're straight or not. I've never been in a corps/band where a quote "queer" member has been given harsh treatment or made to feel any different to the next member. If anything this just singles them out. Just my opinion.

Just the way our culture is currently. We have to create the perception that problems exist in places where they really don't. I'm all in for all people being treated equally...not all in for special treatment for certain groups of people. In my opinion, the best way to be inclusive is to treat all people the same.

Well  I was one of them...funny ( but not really ) it was that the logic of your statement...and it was ...actually has nothing to do with what often gets posted here, or any social media. It's way more common for some to take their moral high ground, take out their pitchforks and torches and forget about what's known or not.

So at least for me it wasn't an insult, rather funny thinking this logic would reach some.,

Thank you for the kind response.

This thread is meaningless speculation. If we had all the facts, there is a slight chance of some real exchange of ideas...otherwise, this thread is in the fictional category.

I find it extremely interesting that a poster in this thread found my statement to be funny.

    There are plenty of reasons.

    1.  Some of those who demand "proof" of the obvious are just being argumentative, and still will not be satisfied no matter what proof we provide.

    2.  Some of those who demand "proof" of the obvious are really just trolling for dirt on other corps, to spawn more cancel culture threads.

    3.  Some of us do not have all the details about why a corps is delaying payment, for how long, or whether payees were informed in advance, and therefore see no point in posting about it in public and generating nasty speculation (you know, like this thread).

    4.  Some of us understand the nature of cash flow in drum corps, and think it either too obvious or too minor to argue about.

    5.  Some of us actually like drum corps, and would therefore prefer not to create or exacerbate problems by slinging mud on a public forum.

    Well said...thank you!

Which is what the YEA email stated from the YEA admin to the staff members. They did NOT try and blow off the staff....they acknowledged that they owe them $$$.

Is it a good thing to have those cash flow issues? No, but the new YEA team was upfront with their staff members. IMO this should be seen as a positive for the team, not a negstive to roast them over the coals.

Well said sir! And some who are void of the facts are roasting the Cadets over the coals. The current management team at the Cadets are being criticized for issues that they did not create.

I believe some people are just more frustrated because the thought was that a lot of this would change with new people at the helm. While we know change takes a relatively long time to take place, it's important to understand that Cadets need no more controversy given the circumstances.

However, I am ALWAYS against giving up. That's not the lesson Cadets taught when I marched and I don't believe many people on this thread who marched there learned that lesson as well.

Regardless, I, too, am pleased with the people who are (back) at the helm and although I am reserving any excitement until August, I am hopeful that we will get a competitive product this upcoming season. FHNSAB...

Thanks for your words. It upsets me that some continue to pound on the Cadets without knowing all the facts. They have certainly made mistakes in the past; however they are working hard to right the ship.

  8. Still appears as though some on hear are hoping that the Cadets cease operations...sad. Thankfully the Cadets have a dedicated staff of good people who are ignoring the critics and are committed to moving the corps in a positive direction. Kudos to the good people at the helm of the Cadets!

So clearly the financial issues are still prevalent. I would hope those staff members who were informed their payments would be "delayed" were able to convey that same sentiment to anyone they may owe money to.

Sounds to me like the same poor fiscal management that's been going on for years.

Nope, the current management team is trying to recover from prior years of poor fiscal management. Sounds to me like some on this site would like to see the Cadets cease operations.

    That bad, huh?

No. I know it's hard but try to ignore the negativity and all the armchair corps directors on this site. The Cadets have had to deal with some real issues over the past several years. Issues that would have made other corps cease operations.  There a many smart and good people at the helm of the Cadets...they will be fine. And hopefully, they will return the Cadets to an elite corps...and soon!

I’m somewhat over all these side shows

A lot of rumors and drive by hit jobs and zero credible direct information

so with that said - go Cadets, can’t wait until the 2020 version debuts! I have a feeling they will be something very very special

i will personally be supporting, donating, sponsoring and cheering them on in a manner I haven’t done in quite a while!

Thank you George for trying to move this thread in a positive direction. The speculators will certainly reject anything positive in the Cadets thread. And I agree with you...I am very excited about the 2020 Cadets!

staff alone doesn't do it all. they have to design a cohesive package and get the kids to pull it off. See SCV 17 and 19.

You're stating the obvious...you don't think people on this site are smart enough to realize this? You really don't have to talk down to people for being excited about their corps. Especially the Cadets...we have been longing for something to be excited about. Just let drum corps fans be excited about their team...no harm in that. Geez!

Matt was the assistant caption head or maybe co-caption head. Still, an excellent pick up!

I apologize if I stated incorrect information. I was under the understanding that Matt was the caption head at Bluecoats. Thanks for the clarification.

i'll hope for the best, and you have a lot of folks here with experience working together which helps.

but lets be honest, all announcements in the fall are going to be positive. name a corps that announced stuff and said "well, we hope we don't suck"?

So what other corps announced the acquisition of Jay Bocook as well as the Bluecoats brass caption head? I think that goes beyond the normal staff announcement hype. But that's just me and everyone has opinions.

When it comes down to it, we have no idea of what YEA actually did or did not do. They have not shared that information for whatever reason and that isn't alarming to me. As soon as your counsel gets involved (and I'm sure YEA's counsel is,) they direct you to what would be best to say or avoid saying. Yes, sometimes it can be poor optics from the outside looking in. But we have to be socially smart enough to realize that we don't know what we don't know and not jump to guessing what happened. Staying silent is NOT a sign of guilt or of poor management in all cases. Sometimes, the best thing to do is to just keep your big mouth shut and let the facts speak in their own time. I just don't find it that hard of a concept to grasp.

Well said...the voice of reason. So refreshing!

You're doing a poor job of bifurcating poor media relations with poor behavior.

In both cases -- I assume you are referring to the 2018 member assault issue and the 2019 bus driver incident -- YEA by all accounts that I am privy to did everything correctly substantively.

The fact that the world found out about it is not indicative of a lack of proper management.

Also, if someone decides to sue you, you have no way to control the narrative because lawsuits are public record.

I don't get why you want to beat YEA over the head with this? They did everything right and you're like, "Yeah, but I found out about it, so they didn't do everything right," which is weird.

This statement is consistent with conversations I had with friends of mine (who were very closely connected to the situation) on the Cadets admin staff.

I get it (believe me, I do!)

We only have the "staff announcement" -- we want to see & hear it on the FIELD come June 2020

I hope we will. The announcements are positive... but really in the end what will we see & hear?

I find myself even more excited by the guard side of things - and I'm not really a guard guy - but those guards when April was in charge before kept stealing my attention and focus away from the rest of the corps. The were such great performers and so impactful and so clean - THAT I'm even more looking forwards to

Can April & team bring the corps' Guard back to the top?

This 1996 guard (23 years ago) is a guard I couldn't take my eyes off that season:

June 2020 can't get here soon enough!

    I'm with you George!

I hope so. Although I am excited to see THIS staff, I am sick of getting enthusiastic just to be disappointed in the end.

I feel your pain! It has been extremely frustrating being a Cadets fan in recent years. Last season was beyond frustrating.

All sounds great. I just hope they live up to what they're promising.

This brass staff has a way better record of success than the one they are replacing. That is clearly a good start. And I would think that Matt Stratton (previous brass caption head at Bluecoats) will attract some talent.
