I marched in 07 and 08. So I never wore the old uniform, but I did wear the helmet and was part of the change to shakos. I hated wearing that helmet. I totally respected the tradition of it, but hated putting it on. I have a rather large head, so there was no room for any padding to be put into my helmet making it extremely uncomfortable to wear. It took me half of the 07 season to finally figure out a way to put it on so that it wouldn't move too much by the end of the show. I almost lost it several times that year. Having the plumes on the right side would then cause the helmet to lower on that side sometimes so bad that I couldn't see out of my right eye by the end of the show. I was so excited when Brad made the announcement that we would take the field in the Georgia Dome in 08 with shakos. For the rest of that season I never had an issue with my shako almost falling off or drooping to one side or the other.
Now for the question of bringing back the red plumes, I would hope not. The reason for the white plumes in the first place was to have the right side of our bodies completely white. Now with the shakos, I think it would just be an eye sore. Basically you would be taking the plumes the Colts use and putting it on the Blue Stars shakos. It would stick out way too much for me. Also, red really isn't a corps color any more. The only red that's really seen is on the patch that we put on the front of our corps jackets. The colors are Blue and White.
