There were actually two members from Cavaliers marching SCV this winter, there were also some Blue Devils ... The boy you are talking about marched Cavies last summer as well, he didn't just jump ship... at this point I've heard he isn't marching at all this summer.

For the record, there was only one member on SCV WG that was from Fantasia, and she marched SCV drum corps.

There are some instructional videos featuring the Vanguard cymbal line on the Zildjian website. I haven't seen anyone post anything about these videos on here, but they are pretty cool. Just showing some simple crashes, and how they do the viper. You might be able to pick up some tips by watching them. www.zildjian.com
