Start: Front ensemble includes a Chapman Stick. (I have a friend who could teach it)

Another season is in the books.
The corps administration, staff, and members should be proud. They put on a show that the entertained crowds all season. I think they were underscored in several captions, but that is water under the bridge. We all know that Finals scores tend to go down for the bottom six regardless of their actual performances being better. It's a judging thing.
Their Finals score was the highest the corps produced since 2002.
Their Percussion improved greatly during the season.
The Color Guard was stellar and will be remembered beyond this season.
DM Lydia Marshall set a new standard for Drum Majors as a thematic participant in the show. She will also be remembered beyond this season and I hope she returns next year. I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't heavily recruited by some higher ranked corps.
The Design Staff swung for the fences this year. I can't wait to see what they do next year. But, stay aggressive. It suits the corps very well.

He's also a 1983 Garfield Cadet, accomplished band director, and basically worked miracles at Cadets since April 2018. By all accounts that I'm aware of, he's a wonderful director and it's a surprise to me he wasn't 2018 director of the year.
He is also in the Crossmen Hall of Fame for his work with them. I believe the Cadets are in good directorial hands.

Because of this thread, I looked at the closeups of the top six closely. I looked at horn bells for microphones. I looked at ears for earbuds. While I saw the occasional mic, I didn’t see enough that it was half the hornline. Other than the pit and a few soloists, I didn’t see a lot of earbuds. If anyone is doing this, it’s pretty stealthy.

Sound seems to have cranked up for the Cadets. At times, it wasn’t pleasant.
Don’t know if it’s Fathom.

This is a first for me. I am in Las Vegas for a visit (long story). I found a theater at the Orleans Casino and the theater is mostly empty...but has a bar.

As I head to the theater, I want to give credit and a little sympathy to today’s judges.
No day of drum corps puts more demand on the judges than this one. Such a long day.

I am so impressed with and enjoying these Open Class Corps.
It makes me wonder which one, if any, will make the jump to World Class.

I’m not worried:
It’s just one judge.
The corps had it’s banquet on Sunday. While that can be an emotional high, the immediate results can be dicey.
They went on first in a top-heavy show.
I hope the corps ignores it and moves forward.

As much as this is a joke, I think they would be great. One GE judge in Finals should be from outside the activity and judging from pure “General Effect”. Maybe it’s not Judge Judy, but maybe it’s an accomplished person in another branch of the Arts.

If the sound person is so much an integral part of the show, are they allowed to be over 22?

In the future, people won't be asking who the brass instructor is, but who the sound person is.
Somebody will be able to afford Diplo and it's all over.

What would I think?
The more I hear about this stuff, it impacts how impressed I am with what I'm hearing. If what I'm hearing is mostly a talented soundboard guy and expensive equipment, then the "wow" factor is gone.
On the other hand, it makes me more impressed by the corps who aren't doing it. Maybe they don't sound as good, but at least it is authentic.
Legal or not, it's disappointing as a fan.
Imagine if baseball made steroids legal and, suddenly, the number of home runs doubled. The home run would become less of impressive, as would the artificially pumped up players.
