You've probably answered this in the past, but I'll ask:
Do your calculations include a margin of error?

Let’s give a shout-out to the Bones Percussion.
Early in the season, there was some concern about them, but they stepped up and were 9th in Allentown.
Great job.
Special shout out the new guitar player. Within a short time(week?), you are a star.

Did anyone else notice that Flo had Bluecoats as Blue Coats?
-
My winner: The Bluecoats
Why: They play music rather than horn exercises.. It's immensely entertaining. I have seen the SCV show several times and none of it sticks. They are talented, but what they are playing never sticks in my mind. This was the first time seeing Blue Devils. So, I'll wait to a second viewing to judge. Meanwhile, you don't have to see the Bluecoats show more than once to "get it" and enjoy the hell out of it.

And here I thought weather delay was more for Sat night. That is what is forecast tomorrow.
Me too. The forecast tonight had a lower chance of disruption.

What guys? This is not an all male activity.
I was remembering seeing the Cavaliers’ butts in Chester when I wrote that.
I stand by my statement. Drum corps males are often in costumes not dissimilar than male ice skaters.

Whoever this dude on Flo is just described drum corps as a cross between marching band, figure skating, and broadway.....Um Figure Skating????
I used figure skating to explain drum corps scoring to a newbie who follows figure skating. The scores are a combo of content and achievement. Also, people perform in the reverse order of their score in earlier rounds. And, come on, the guys wear tights! Just like drum corps.

Time for the crowd to get some shaved ice.

East showing BIG love to Scouts tonight. Deservedly so. Multiple spontaneous SOs, a third of the audience up with 20 seconds to go.
Yes. If there is any crowd that would appreciate a show like this one, it’s this. These members gave a fine performance of a show that is General Effect in the audience definition of the phrase, if not the modern judge’s definition. Company fronts, nice drill moves, accessible music, That stuff has historically been loved by this crowd.

So if that was the first announcement they expected first performance 5 months later in June. Wonder where equipment was coming from.
I find it hard to believe that this announcement was the first discussion of it. From my experience doing it for the Crossmen, it was noodled around on the Crossmen Alumni Facebook page for a while to see what the interest was before the "go" signal happened. We practiced once a month starting in November.
Isn't there a Cadets Alumni Page and didn't they discuss it before announcing?

I don’t remember the announcement that they were going to appear, but I’m sorry they couldn’t make an announcement when it was canceled.
But, I am curious. Why was this the responsibility of the corps and not the Alumni Association?
Crossmen Alumni did something two years ago. We didn’t perform at the show, but in the Park for the current members and the Crossmen Hall of Fame ceremony.
Not a single dollar was spent by the Crossmen. In fact, we raised money FOR the corps.
That being said, it was Really hard to pull off. Instructors volunteered. Instruments were borrowed or purchased on E-bay by the participants themselves.
It wasn’t clear until Allentown weekend what our numbers would be because some people had to travel from Texas and other places and it was their first practice. In the end, we did have 50-something horns and played two songs.
We didn’t Really promote it outside our organization. It was intended to be a surprise for the current corps
I hadn’t played in 30 years. It was very satisfying

For those suggesting that there should be no more shows on natural grass fields, what about all the shows in California that are on natural grass? Or the numerous Open Class and early-season World Class shows that occur on natural grass because of the show sponsor?
I’m not necessarily saying these shows should not be on natural grass, but there are reasons why they are there in the first place.
Corps don't just have grass fields to perform on. They also have grass fields they have to practice on. We are seeing more and more difficulty getting schools to provide housing and practice facilities. Just this last week, the Crossmen had to scramble to find facilities in Pennsylvania. If schools start finding more and more damage on their property(aka fields) after a corps leaves due to their huge props, that trend could continue.
Rain can cancel shows, but it also impacts practices and soaks fields that are being practiced on. It's impractical to say "all shows must be on artificial grass AND all practice facilities on artificial grass." Where are all these fields?

According to "sneaked" scores from the aborted Chester show, the Crossmen got an 85.45, which is a 1-point improvement from Salem.

I really did not notice a tangible difference between the Crossmen, Cavaliers and Surf props and those of BAC.
Seriously? There are major differences between the three. The Surf's props are basically just pictures of coral on what appears to be very lightweight material. The Crossmen have circular platforms that are move around easily.
The Cavaliers had that huge platform/stage and it looked heavy. BAC's props looked even heavier and they are larger than anything Surf or Crossmen had.
I'm really surprised that people are surprised/shocked this happened. As props have gotten larger and heavier, it was inevitable. Unfortunately, it happened at my first of only two live shows this year. Intense, water-laden thunderstorms are becoming more and more common. A 15-minute storm can dump loads of water. I was driving down from Long Island and a storm came in while I was in Brooklyn. Within 5 minutes, the highway had two inches of water. It ended pretty quickly, but water doesn't evaporate when its cloudy and humid.
One question I do have: Aren't artificial turf fields vulnerable AT ALL? I can imagine that if a prop is heavy enough, it could do SOME damage? But, I don't know much on the subject.

This statement makes no sense. I was at the show. No clue what weather they were talking about. I’m assuming the turf may have taken on some rain earlier in the day, but there was no change in the weather from when Cavies ended and Boston was supposed to start. Crossmen and Cavies both had props on the field and moved....
As I said earlier in the thread, we observed stadium personnel inspecting the field during the INT, which was after the Cavaliers. They, apparently, didn't like what they saw.

Belated Crossmen review:
First time seeing them live since camp. Wow.
They have been adding little changes to their show. The ending is much improved. The trombone feature is longer and has other bits of music
The new guitar player was in. He did his solo in the opener, but didn’t do the end part where both the bass and guitar are on the platform
There is still cleaning to do, but I think they’ve had many rained out practices this week
The crowd loved it. I loved it.

Talen stadium officials are saying the corps are ruining the field with there props so stand still only
It is a professional soccer stadium in the middle of soccer season. Could you imagine if one of the players trips on a divot during the next home game and damages something?

STANDSTILLS!!!! DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS! They have been rolling props across the field all night. Why now? Unreal!
We saw the stadium people inspecting the turf during the intermission. Then Boston pushes in their big props and I bet the decision was made right then.
Honestly, I’ve been thinking it was just a matter of time before a stadium balks at allowing big heavy props to damage their field.

I had always thought that it was because the corps was a 'cross' between 507 and Keystone Regiment. But I'm interested to hear this story, which I don't doubt. History night wasn't a thing when I marched.
Welcome home, Crossmen!
Here's the website to the American Legion Post:

Never knew the explanation for the ‘cross’ part of the name. I’m assuming that would have been the 507 Hornets drum corps.
Yes, Post 507 was the sponsor of the 507 Hornets, who merged with the Keystone Regiment, also of Delaware County, to become the Crossmen. Many other names were considered, including "Delco Devildogs".

Show Trivia:
This show is in the city I grew up in and is just nine miles from Norwood, PA where an early sponsor of the Crossmen is located. It's American Legion Post 507, aka The John Wesley Cross Post. It is from that name that the Crossmen got their name.
The stadium is also just a few miles from where the early Crossmen practiced--the parking lot of Boeing, also called Boeing Beach, for the tans we got there.
