Santa Clara Vanguard 2022

They were at one point, though. I don't dislike 2019. I think Vox Eversio suffers from following two phenomenally great shows (2017 and 2018), people can't help but compare them. I thought it was different enough from Babylon, but lacked the same cohesiveness and flow as it predecessors. What they started with at the beginning of the season was solid. Then came the closer. It's like the design team forgot what the show was about and then decided to add a plot. Underground post-punk finds peace in society? It felt so out of place. I think that's why I find myself revisiting parts of the show at times (there's great moments in there), but not as a whole. -
To be fair, I think some of it is genuine dislike for BD's approach to show design, which is fine. You can't please everyone, and trying to usually results in mediocrity anyway. I certainly don't enjoy them any less because it's not someone else's cup of tea. But I agree, an awful lot of it does come across as pure contempt/hate, and those are usually the ones you seeing trying to tear BD down while simultaneously trying to prop up their corps of choice. Personally, I find it somewhat amusing. Fans get way more bent of shape than a lot of the members do. Most of these kids have friends in multiple corps and cheer each other on. It was the same when I marched. I tended to appreciate most of the shows we did get to see and rooted for my friends that marched in different corps. I now see that with my sons too.

If we were talking about Crown a few years ago, I'd agree with you. The battery consistently had clarity issues. Their execution just wasn't strong. Fast forward to now, and that's no longer really the case. They don't have a percussion problem. A spread of only .4 is also a huge improvement. It's not so much what they're doing, but what their peers are doing as well. Like most years, it's simply a stacked caption.
