I don’t miss this look at all. Love seeing the performers perform.   What corps is this and are they struggling to hold m their horns or just holding them different ways person to person?

This would be a picture of the incomparable Guardsmen from Schaumburg, IL. Can’t address the horn angles but the pic looks like ‘77 or ‘78 vintage. Ms. Terri could you confirm what year this photo was taken?

This is the "old folks" rants. "When I marched....."

    I resemble that remark!

Is your comment supposed to be some sort of a slight? I sure hope not. Whether or not you wear headgear, the drum corps experience is pretty much the same today as it was 5,10,15,30 years ago.

You spend the better part of the year working your butt off to entertain people and when you have the crowd on your side, there’s no better feeling! All those hours/days/weeks of rehearsing melt away in that moment.

Feel free to flame away at this old Q-Tip.

Not following you. Can you elaborate?

Unfortunately I have a Los Angeles public education, so you gotta break the simplest things down for me LMAO.

I think Illiana was referring to corps BITD that required closely groomed hair so it didn’t stick out from under your shako or hair could not touch the collar of your uniform. A throwback to VFW/ American Legion days.

Just takin’ a stab at it.

Other than the guard and pit, hats need to be part of the uniform/costume. The experiment has been tried and failed.  Hats give a sense of sophistication, style and intrigue. Without them the horns and field percussion look unfinished and ordinary. It actually just looks like a glorified dress rehearsal.

    Just my two cents.

I tend to agree, but with the physical demands and choreography designed into today’s shows, headwear just isn’t a viable option…..unless it’s stapled on.

A lot of positive steps in the right direction (debts nearly paid off, revenue is bouncing back, implementing better cost controls, etc), with official communications and the Vanguard Voice coming soon.

While I hope you’re right, I’m not so sure I would believe anything printed in the Vanguard Voice if it is being run by the same folks who let this mess happen in the first place.

The lightning is unreal down here.  I’ve never seen anything like it. I have three layers of surge protection on the house due to the lightning.

Maybe it’s you Terri…adding extra electricity to Florida!❤️❤️❤️

  7. Congrats to “Mom Gilbert” for her recognition. This is how the activity survived over the years….a mix of local donors and a ton of Moms n’ Dads. We owe them all a debit of gratitude.

My mom was the equivalent of Ms Gilbert at Regiment. She cooked, she sold souvies, she had the section patch table at the Regiment souvie booth for years. It’s all about putting faces to the activity. Year after year it was the same faces supporting their corps. From BD to Cavies to Troopers to Glassmen to Cadets to Regiment.  It lent a sense of family/familiarity to the activity. All corps have them and they should never be forgotten for their contributions to the activity.

    Kudos to you wonderful volunteers!

I think there was at least one significant rain delay most years championships were in Orlando.

I was there during the “Orlando Years”. It happened every year around 5:00pm every evening. Lasted at least 20 to 30 minutes. No umbrellas allowed in the stadium because of lightning.

  9. I don’t think moving the corps out of state will fix the board issues. The fact there are other Californian WC corps who are, let’s say, “getting by” says the opportunity exists for the Vanguard to rebuild in it’s home but it will take a complete overhaul of their BOD to make that happen. Would it make sense for the organization to make an outreach to some of their bigger donors? Many are successful business people. The CEO doesn’t really need to know all about drum corps….just how to run a successful not for profit. Just throwin’ the idea out there.

Milk or dark?  Dark chocolate is suppose to be good for your heart along with red wine... 🧐

I think Mr. Cesario was referring to dark chocolate when he was originally quoted. Youngins’, google quotable quotes from Michael Cesario. He had many of them. What a great man who pushed this activity forward with beauty and creativity. Kudos Michael! Your contributions will always be appreciated.
