  1. I totally forgot about Patrick...duh!! Jeff and his family were very welcoming to me at Spirit and that is the kind of people that they have in the Corpsvets. We really enjoyed ourselves and it those moments that make up a great summer of memories. Yes competing is great and exciting, but getting a chance to play with other groups when there is nothing to do...but PLAY LOUD....now that is fun. Alan....you are more than welcome. Glad that it all worked out so smoothly. We are definitely on for DCA. Take care everyone....travel safe and we will see you soon. Jimmy Steele Empire Co-Brass Caption Head
  2. Hello all, On Tuesday of last week I e-mailed a longtime friend Alan Armstrong from the Corpsvets and asked if they would like to play Georgia with Empire in Hornell. Within 2 hours I had the arrangement (in Bb - thanks Jerry Kelsey for transposing the parts for us) and we were off and running. The corps played together during the retreat and it was quite a site to see 100 horns playing Georgia. Do not know how good it was...but it sure was loud. I had a mellophone player on one side of me that had 2 daughters in Spirit of JSU when I taught there in the early 2000's and also Hunter Moss and Clark Hunt close by who were staff and student when I was with Spirit. All in all, it will go down as a major highlight in my drum corps career. We plan to play again during finals weekend. Can't wait. Empire will learn their parts better in September...lol!! Thanks for the opportunity to do something special Corpsvets. Good luck with your season and travel safe. Jimmy Steele Co-Brass Caption Head - Empire Statesmen

  5. Nick was my fathers professor at Hobart College in the 60's as well as a professor of me and my brother in the 80's. Nick was a great musician and musical mind. He was at the hospital when my brother was born in 1964 and was a big part of my families life in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I know that many of you would know him because of his drumcorps history...I knew him more because of writing of jazz and wind literature. His jazz charts were great...wish that he had more of them published....they need to be played again. He will be greatly missed. RIP Nick!! Jimmy Steele
  6. Hey DA that would be great to see you at a rehearsal to play...or just listen...your ears are top notch....remember you are one hell of a horn man!!! Thanks for the kind words on the "Bb vs. G" topic. That meant alot to me. I will pay you later....lol!!! Merry Christmas, Jimmy Steele
  7. Gordy, Who's the old guy you are referring too? Come on down and join us....you are always welcome. Jimmy Steele
  8. How do you know? Winnie the Pooh can show up anywhere at anytime during any year....
  9. To all that have questions, All of the uniformed military, the firefighter and the police representative were actually members of those organizations. Hours of preparation went into finding and preparing these fine gentlemen to be part of our show. The Empire Statesmen show was to pay tribute to all members of the military, police and firefighters who so humbly give themselves for us so we can live in a safe and free country. I would personally like to thank all 6 gentlemen who volunteered their time to spend the weekend with the Empire Statesmen. It made the show come to life for the members of the corps and hopefully the audience as well. Myself as the brass caption head of the Empire Statesmen brass line would like to congratulate everyone on their seasons accomplishments. We all would love to be the named Champions (and the Bucs hold that title well and rightfully so)...but only one can be the named Champion. The rest of the corps are on task to make sure that their voice is heard loud and clear and that they represent themselves, their corps and the activity at the highest level possible. I think we all did that last night. Congrats and here is to 2010! Safe travels, Jimmy Steele - Brass Caption Head - Empire Statesmen
