Gmen definitely had Slingerland. That was the year, in my humble opinion, that the Gmen put the quads on notice with the Slingerland cut-aways. Changed the tenor world even to this day.
I was there live. My last year involved in the activity.
I was calling people after semi's saying that I thought Madison had won. I think BD was more refined or smooth. Madison brought loads more excitement and energy.
I"m going to vote 1980 for two reasons. I had the privilege of marching in a finalist corps that year to end my years. Plus there were three of us who all started with a small local corps who aged out that night in three different finalist corps.
