I did not see too many holes last night, maybe a couple. The corps needs to stay safe. I hope the soloists have understudies just in case.

Blue Stars continue to improve. Another very good show tonight. Time to push an 87.

Not enough juice for the Blue Stars 😞
<sigh...>8th place again...
A little early to say. Let’s see how the week progresses. I imagine they’ll sit well come Saturday.

Considering some of the score jumps from Saturday we have seen this week, Cadets up almost 2 points, Mandarin up about 2 points, and Cavaliers up 2.75 points, I assume Blue Stars will make a similar jump and score in the 86-87 range. What I am really excited to see if the San Antonio show gave SCV a shot of adrenaline and they can close the gap on Crown with both cops seeing a jump in scores. I would love to Santa Clara move above 90 tonight.

My biggest take away from yesterday is there is no reward for using the whole field for technical musical difficulty. Also, spread out curves get less points than close blocks. The question becomes do you lose your identity for competitive success or continue to be your own unique group and hope for the rewards.
I will be proud of the Brads and their decisions either way because they put together a fine group of individuals.
Almost three weeks left. The Stars tend to close strong. They were in 7th place yesterday which is one place higher than 2019 in San Antonio. Let’s see where they are next Saturday.- 1

That is the coolest snare moment of the year.

Omg, cadets get a mention on the Legacy tab of Kerouac’s wiki page! Mama, we made it!

Blue Stars visual analysis score is down 1.6 from Broken Arrow. That seems a little ridiculous.

Blue Devils with a lot of 1’s on the recap. One GE judge gives one sub caption to Crown.

Stars and Cadets neck and neck going into the regional.

Welcome to the 90s Blue Devils. They are so good this year. No weaknesses. Incredible visual show.

Blue Devils will not be threatened this year.

After watching Broken Arrow and Denton, I am starting to think Boston might be able to finish as high as second this year. I would not be surprised if the finish second on Saturday. They seem to have that trajectory and are showing no weaknesses.
In my opinion, Blue Devils are untouchable this year.

It is setting up nicely for a Cadets/Blue Stars battle for 6th on Saturday, Cavaliers, Mandarin, and Phantom for 8-10, and Blue Knights, Crossmen, and Colts fighting for 11 and 12. It is going to be an interesting weekend and next three weeks.

No brass judge probably helped SCV as they were the only corps in the top four tonight who scored higher in music analysis in Broken Arrow. So, their score may have been a few tenths higher than it would be otherwise and the top three might have been a tenth of two lower. It did not impact the scores enough to change positions and SCV certainly made a big jump across the board.

Slightly interesting that cadets are using a Boston author for the narration this season and crown is using a Boston singer for the opening tease song.
I am not sure Jack Kerouac would have said he was from Boston. He was a kid from Lowell.

My first DCI championship I attend was in 1976 in Philadelphia. Since then I have probably attended 25 or so finals in person and watched the others on television or online. I can think of maybe two years where i thought the judges got it wrong at the top. I cannot come up with one example of a Blue Devils win that I thought was not deserved. Last night, to me, it was obvious they would win the show.

Great show last night. I thought the judges got the placements exactly right. I was surprised by the spread a the top but did think Blue Devils were clearly the best corps last night. I am looking forward to San Antonio and the possibility of placement changes in the 2-4 group.
I think SCV will stay in 5th for the time being. Not sure if that will change this year.
Blue Stars, in my opinion, have a very good shot at 6th at finals. It will be interesting to see how they stack up score wise with the Cadets on Friday. Normally I would say two days of rehearsal should mean a jump in score this weekend, and I still think we will see it, but the heat might shorten some of their time on the field. I do expect Blue Stars will introduce some new elements on Friday. I assume cadets are doing the same this week.
The time off obviously hurt the Cavaliers. They certainly will be working hard to climb up the ranks as quickly as possible, but I am not sure the Blue Stars would not have beaten a healthy Cavaliers last night. They were closing the gap on them before Covid hit. I think the Blue Stars have a better show.
I think the Blue Knights have some work to do but have the show that can keep them in finals. It will be interesting to see how much they improve between now and Atlanta. If they are in the top 12 next Saturday, they should be fine in Indianapolis.

Man, Blue Stars guard, what a night! Not only passing SCV, but passing Crown and Bluecoats in content!
Solomon always scores the Blue Stars guard well. He judged finals in 2014 when they finished fourth. Tonight, however, I think he underscored them slightly.

I am not going to try to predict placements after watching it on Flo. It is too hard to get a feel for what the sound is really like. What I saw may have been the best eight corps, mid-season show ever streamed. The performance level of all the corps was top notch. Championship week is going to be off the hook this year.
