  1. ...but what would that mean for Burlington? Granted they put out some decent shows over the years, but there's no disputing that the previous generation of Spartans' staff brought the corps to a new level. That's mainly why I say "combine forces." While nearby competition is enjoyable, there's no sense in having one struggle.
  2. Hmmm, well... ECJ was a pretty successful corps located close to Boston and nearby highways. If you remember, their "comeback" last year was an epic fail (with one French Horn player showing up). The Spartans are not in a good location (gas prices and econ will surely prevent a lot of kids from getting there), had an "unfavorable" season the last year out, and have just sold the corps hall. I'm guessing it will take a tremendous amount of resources to field once again. If I were PLF jr I'd team up with Citations, bringing anything the corps had to the table. Then again, what's really left? The name itself isn't worth what it used to be, the bus company is/was/will be gone?? Do they have equipment? Still, I'd say the best bet is to team up and have a VERY successful corps instead of trying to fight each other for membership. If you add the 50 or so kids from Spartans to the 100 or so kids from Citations...you have a full corps. No Div 2/3 in New England has ever fielded the max...how cool would that be!?
  3. Tanner, you got issues. The point of this is to move away from anything remotely negative and simply reflect upon the great shows Spartans have had in the past 20 years. On the verge of what right now is chaos, I was hoping to create a little relief. Why would there be any use for "misguided, misinformed....and somewhat pompous wisdom" on this poll? Having completely misunderstood what this thread is about, congratulations on starting any sort controversy yourself. I should have disabled comments.
  4. How about something wholesome? Be honest, you can only pick one show since '89. If you haven't enjoyed a show since, yikes!
  5. First of all, corps placements don't matter until that last performance in August so you can't say the Spartans went from 1st to 15th unless they remain there this whole next month. About Peter Laflamme, the guy has directed for almost 30 years and the corps has dropped placement before, most recently in 2000 or 2001 (granted they are much further behind at the start of the competitive season than ever). Class Act = someone who can keep a corps afloat for all that time while so many Div ii/iii corps that have sprung up are now inactive/have folded. Corps win some, lose some, then start over. Is this really so hard to grasp? -T Fitchburg Kingsmen Alumna
  6. Um, I didn't accuse YOU of posting any photos, Mr! I started by answering your post and then responding to a couple others. Why so defensive? Yeesh! To the other person, that photo is a bad one and there's no doubt about it. I never said you wanted to blackmail THEM, but you must have known that posting any photo like that would draw negative comments, but then again that's what people do on these forums (cause a ruckus, that is). I do try to affiliate myself with the few corps left in the area, yes, but ohhhhhh my gosh, I must be a part of the corps because I'm one of the ones sticking up for them...is that how it is? If that's the perception then the world truly has it out for the Spartans this year. I hope they have a great summer too, which is why this banter ought to stop! There always needs to be someone to pick on and gossip about now doesn't there. It's too bad. -T
  7. Aww they're trying . I was honestly going to do something like this because these forums lack humour. So many people take both themselves and events too seriously! They're good for stirring things up though, even got me to register just to speak my mind. Anyway, kudos for trying to lighten things up! -T
  8. Seems like the reasons for the corps being under 60 is NONE of anyone's business...otherwise there'd be a lot of info on it. Would you publically announce stuff like that? I doubt it. Most of the Staff went to the Citations, but it looks like half of them are still teaching there. Speaking of, how are they doing in the parades? Any blackmail photos of them? It's true that pics don't lie, but not all pics represent how groups look all the time. That pic of Spartans was a low-shot. BTW, is someone SERIOUSLY comparing the Spartans (or MOST corps, even) to the Phantom Regiment? That's just ridiculous. Also, accusing them of not caring because of a lousy photo? That's even more ridiculous. If the group is as small as everyone is saying, I think the members who ARE there care a whole hell of a lot. -T
