  1. Topic says it. I can't watch a single performance without having to wait for the download to catch up to where I am, or the entire application just crashing.

Just for your information DCI just rents the back end technology from another company entirely. Therefore, they would not be hiring software engineers to fix these type of problems. Do you honestly think they would have the resources for such a huge undertaking of streaming video that keeps the content protected in the first place?...

  2. Interesting change to Boston's uniform.

Not sure yet if I like it.

I did not even notice that till you mentioned it. Your referring to the white drop sash (I have no idea what the name is called) on the left leg I imagine. In my opinion if it was my choice I'd pick a white cummerbund and white bucks...which was Boston's look in late 80's and early 90's if you recall.

I've also thought that the entire corps would look awesome in the drum major's outfit ...but that will probably never happen...

  3. In the theatre show broadcast, Michael Cesario alluded to changes in the judging captions coming in 2012. It needs to be vetted, then voted on. He said he was confident the proposed changes would pass. He alluded to an " audience " factor being incorporated into the new judging sheets. But there really was no specifics given, Liahona. Maybe others on here know more. But thats all I know.

    Thanks BRASSO...and GUARDLING...

I can see that being extremely controversial...I don't even want to touch that one...I think that was also something the Madison Scouts director alluded to last year now that I think about it...

  4. This notion that judges think that the vast numbers of people in the audience are intellectual oafs, and can only respond to " emotional shows " as opposed to" intellectual shows " is ludicrous. Judges are not stupid. They realize that DCI crowds are a diverse group of people of varying degrees of musical training, tastes, experiences, likes, dislikes. In the crowd will be everything from professors of music to bubble gum chewing teenagers whose older brother is in one of the Corps and who made her boyfriend come to the show despite his not knowing a mellophone from a smartphone. Judges " get that ". The idea that judges can not ascertain if a show is connecting with a diverse audience is a specious argument in my opinion, and does not give credit to the judge's abilities to determine such things.

Can someone tell me what's on the table/proposal wise for 2012 in terms of changing these scoring sheets. I thought something was said in the theater about "entertainment" component and I'm sure it's probably already been discussed on here, but I've been in hibernation...if anyone knows...thanks

  5. Hope this primer ( or reminder ) helps understand a little more what is being judged ( and not judged ) in early June and July, and then what becomes more important in the judged captions as we move along into the competitive season.

Thanks BRASSO. I sometimes forget when all the judge changes take place. I knew it was less judges in the beginning of the season, but this primer puts everything in perspective as a reminder of exactly when the changes take place.

    Thanks again

  6. 3 hours was a long haul! If the sound is up for the next show in the theaters, you're friend might make it.

I'm glad to hear that they responded to your request the other time and did turn it up. Most of the times I've asked, the staff normally looks at me and asks "what is this stuff anyway?"

The theater is usually good about stuff like that. I forgot to mention I got a little chuckle from the girl standing at the door after intermission who was supposedly in the know and said "oh this part is supposed to be quiet" until the show continued to have no sound as the Cadets were entering the field...and then they stopped the picture after everyone started yelling no sound....LOL

  7. After reading various experiences in the theater, I noticed several observations about volume being too low.

I consistently have this issue because the theater will typically balance the sound to "movie level" (spoken dialogue). After calling this attention to the manager or employee with a walkie, they manually turned up the volume in our theater. It's to the point where now we just have them there at the beginning and we don't let them leave until the first double forte Ensemble moment of corps X is satisfactory!

When Dci first came to the movies, this problem/solution was at an AMC theater for me. Since then, Fathom as come to a closer theater, Regal Cinema, and the staff there were still able to make the same adjustments for us. It made the hosts (Rondinaro, Delucia, etc) on the louder side, but at least gave us the chance to hear the performances with a better sense of balance and presence.

I couldn't imagine having to watch all the performances where FF came across as MP. Many of you have probably done the same thing in your respective theaters, but wanted to post this in case it could help for quarterfinals or in the future in general.

It was definitely too low at my theater tonight in Westchester, NY for my personal taste. It was good though to see a better turn out than semi's or was it quarters??...lol last year at the theater. In years past I have asked management to raise the sound, but I really was lazy tonight and decided not to even bother getting up from my seat hoping someone else would go find management. It felt more like a concert at radio city music hall and my friend was so tired from work...that he kept dozing off...LOL

  8. For those who have seen Boston this year ,are they as good as I think they are?

All sections of the corps seems better!

    Saw them Sunday in Quincy.

    Will be going back tonight!

Who's not to love 1812 and Les Mis?...I took a peak at the Quincy parade standstill...beautiful baritone solo and solid corps!!! I always have a hard time being objective with BAC, so I'm not going to hype anything till I see them live on the 26th!

  9. I love DCI because it...

    restores my sanity.

enhances physical, emotional, and intellectual experience.

    expresses the human spirit...

    has tensions and climaxes.

    expresses many emotions.

expresses inexpressible, from basic instincts and emotions to the most sublime.

    is a definite eargasm festival.

  10. If the shows are not well attended or not well received, the ideas driving the G7 will die a quick death.

If the shows are well attended or the "experiments" well received either they will have proved their point and all of DCI will move in their direction or DCI will choose not to move in their direction and some or all of the G7 will leave and form their own circuit.

My gut feeling is that these experiments "will" probably be well received...I think this will be based upon the simple fact of them being something new and different. As far as drawing any "new" crowd I seriously doubt that. Drum corps is a niche activity and always will be in my opinion. I am definitely not an advocate of this happening and I don't care how much spin has been done to change the public perceptions of "the experiments", I for one will "never forget".

  11. I honestly don't know the details on this, but it sounds to me like these venues might be akin to multiple Murfreesboro shows...additional Masters of the SUMMER MUSIC GAMES events. So far, I haven't heard any negatives about the Murfreesboro show and I suspect this might be a way of extending that concept beyond Murfreesboro.

My only comment/complaint if you will to this is...Murfreesboro was never determined from a prior seasons placement...at least to my knowledge anyway...

  12. And just how many hornlines are in the 80s? I know of only 3. Those are Crown (with 80), Blue Stars (with 80) and Madison Scouts (with 84). Sure, I'm sure on paper a few more corps have an 80+ member hornline LISTED. But did they get there? NO! Again, just go back and COUNT when your DVDs come in.

    I vote for 135 horns and 15 drums....lol J/k

  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-mC1PkYbnM...feature=related This might give you a better look at how the mouthpiece works.

And GOD I HOPE THEY'RE ILLEGAL!!!!!!!!!!

Needs energizer batteries I'd imagine...that one was plugged into the wall...LOL

Also looks like a reject from the Star Wars storm trooper clan...

Are you out there Hoppy? Here is another great brainchild idea for you...maybe you can get a sponsored endorsement... :worthy:
