  1. Crown has such a lush brass sound... I wish they'd get rid of that visual in the middle of their show where they do what looks like synchronized swimming body movement with the guys and gals with the feet going up and down like that.... makes me cringe.... but maybe there are guys and gals in the Drum Corps fan base that like that stuff too, and so that's cool as well.

I thought Crown was better tonite than last nite... but who knows what the Drum judge thinks..... great brass arrangements from Crown again this year.

LUSH is an UNDERSTATEMENT....ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL SOUND...but the end left me a little flat...but that's just me I guess...

  2. I don't understand this statement. I agree with the OP. Most applause now a days is Polite the standing O at the end seems obligatory. I Remember "back in the day" seeing people openely weeping <---NOT EXAGERATTED. Babies thrown Several times per show through most if not all the shows at a show. Now a days it's a few in the stands kinda giving it up according to what corps is on at the moment but the rest are like Meh. Phantom's performance in 08 and subsequent score announcement not withstanding.

I think perhaps many fans (I for one) are starving for that very excitement that you mention. When it does happen...it's quite magical...

  3. Thanks to all who participated in The Old School Challenge. I can comment for both Tom and myself that this campaign far exceeded our expectations. As well, it was surprisingly close with Boston winning $16,558 to Madison's $16,489.....a $69 dollar difference!

The Scouts had 129 donors and Boston had 80. I was most pleased to see the large number of new donors we added through this campaign.

Patron donations are a key revenue source in the operations of a drum corps. If you enjoy this activity, then be sure to make a contribution to the corps of your choice, make a purchase at the merchandise booth and attend a show.

    On to the Georgia Dome!

    Chris Komnick

    Executive Director

That is just awesome! Congratulations to both fine corps. Love your show this year Madison! Of course I am especially going to be looking for your pit cart at Allentown.

  4. I then realized what's missing from todays activity. Diversity, Flow, Melodies and Passionately written shows! Im sure I'll be blasted by the younger generation for expressing my disatisfaction and that's fine, we all have a right to an opinion. It was just a sad realization this evening that for the first time in nearly 25 years I realized I am losing touch with an activity that has given me so much joy over the years.

I hear you loud and clear on this point. Passionately written shows which attracted me to drum corps 25 years ago as a teen have almost gone IMO. Maybe I'm just a drum corps dinosaur(aged out junior corps 1991). I'm not looking to go as I love drum corps and still plan to support it. I'm really not dissatisfied per se, but more disappointed in the current direction of the activity. Perhaps that is partly my own personal failing for trying to relive my teen years and reminisce about the past. I do think the passion has slowly eroded the last several years, but I've been sitting patiently hoping for a rebirth. Though this is true, I believe the glue that has held me here has been the heart these kids put into the performances and my passion for music and the arts...Otherwise if it was not for that I think I might have drifted off the radar screen.

  5. Here is the information:

5 Board members (out of 9) were recalled by the larger group of Voting Members.

Removed: Dave Glasgow (Bluecoats) and George Hopkins (Cadets) plus 3 outside directors - B Setzer, L Shuff and M Kehoss.

The 2 additional Board members that resigned were Jeff Fiedler (SCV) and Rick Valenzuela (Phantom Regiment) - presumably in a show of G7 solidarity.

This left only 2 members from the old Board: Mark Arnold (Blue Knights) and Greg Orwoll (Colts).

Replacements so far: 2 outside directors - M Stasa and S Auditore plus Howard Weinstein (Blue Stars) and Brian Hickman (Glassmen).

    In chronological order:

The G7 proposal was presented to the old Board (on a Wednesday or a Thursday). They voted to have the G7 come back with additional details at the regularly scheduled July meeting. The old Board then voted to not renew the contract of the CEO.

Within about 24 hours, the Voting membership called a special meeting for the following Sunday where the 5 directors were recalled from the old 9 member board. The way it was explained to me is that the Voting Members did not feel that their interests were being represented by the old Board members.

The replacements were also elected at the same special meeting bringing the total to 8 (with one empty outside position).

Sometime the following week, the 2 resignations occurred leaving us at 6 which is where we are today.

The Voting Membership is going through a process right now to hold elections to fill the 2 open seats left by the resignations.

That should bring everybody up to speed through today. Stay tuned.

Thank you very much. I appreciate you taking the time to answer this for me.
