  1. HERE IS MY TOP 4 FOR INDIANAPOLIS STEAK HOUSES...

I say try one of these Granny...only your purse will regret it...

    #1 -The Capital Grille

40 W. Washington St. (bet. Illinois & Meridian Sts.)

    Why?

Everything a steakhouse ought to be, this decidedly upscale chain lures buttoned-down power players with flavorful, artfully presented chops; the low-lit, dark-wood digs and attentive service are ideal for a special occasion dinner, and even though the bill can be way expensive, you get what you pay for here.

    or there is...

    #2 - Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

    8487 Union Chapel Rd.

    Why?

Not as stuffy as the competition, this inviting chophouse chain purveys classic steaks and sides in relaxed, clubby digs...low-profile service and an excellent wine-by-the-glass program add to its allure, but since everything’s à la carte, be prepared for high-end tabs.

    or there is...

    #3 - Morton's The Steakhouse41 E. Washington St. (Pennsylvania St.)

    why?

Consistency abounds at this can’t-go-wrong steakhouse chain pairing well-prepared chops that hang off the plate with seriously powerful martinis; arm-and-a-leg pricing comes with the territory, along with a Saran-wrapped presentation of raw meats (accompanied by an instructional recitation by the waiter) – a “shtick” that many find “tired.”

    or there is...

    #4 - Ruth's Chris Steak House

    9445 Threel Rd. (off E. 96th St.)

Nothing beats a steak sizzling in butter at this special-occasion, New Orleans–based chain where the melt-in-your-mouth chops are cooked to perfection and presented on hot plates; sure, the decor varies – from “blah” to “old-fashioned in a good way” – but service is attentive and the off-the-charts pricing manageable as long as you don't care how much you spend.

  2. As per Charlie Willis from the BAC website forum...

"Major league congrats to the Boston Crusaders pitt for getting first place in their division for percussion ensemble. They scored a 95 and beat out Blue Devils, Santa Clara Vangard, and many others. Their performance was out of this world.

Also, major congrats to Jen (mello) for getting first place in solo competition. She played a french horn solo and beat many other performers with her score of 97."

  3. Here's a bone to chew on.

Say last year Phantom didn't play spartacus but played Bang Bang and wasn't that good 8th place, but Avante Noodle Corps Played and performed Spatacus to the level that won the championships (or any championship show) would you have felt the same about the show or is there always a emotional tie to corps that enhances our overall experience at a championship performance.

Is our perception of the a Corps abilities to win a championship tainted by our "favorite corps history" that we might not appreciate fully what a unknown corps who wins the championship and what emotional tie doesn't get connected.....

off the wall but something to do before tomorrow

I think maybe there may be an expectation that a certain corps will do well with a certain type of show and that expectation is what we grow to love. Each corps has their own unique identity. I felt an EXTRA boost last year emotionally for Phantom and the Championship because I felt that it was the show that should have won and did win. I was estatic for Phantom at the same time and felt that emotion. I think if it was by an unknown corps I would have relished in their win, but maybe not at the same level emotionally. I want to say intellectually that I would be glad for Avante Noodle, but emotiaonally pulling at a far greater level for Phantom.

  4. 08 Blue Devils for the win...I am not a fan of this years chairs at all.

09 Crown..was not convinced at annapolis BUT Allentown live changed my mind...Color green..um oh well can't have everything

09 Cadets...miles above last year...makes me think of 1990....wish though music was a little more melodic IMO

09 Cavaliers is a toss up...Samurai, was to me mehhh..but this years show is much better IMO.

    09 SCV..stunning and incredible without a doubt...reminds me of Boston 2002

08 Bluecoats...much more fan accessible and fun to enjoy...

09 Boston...show has connected with me on many levels...and SO happy they are in the hunt...top 6 perhaps?

08 Phantom...probably my favorite show this decade..well..in the top 3 anyway

08 Blue Stars...liked last years concept better...this year too Cheezy for my taste...

09 Blue Knights...feels more accessible then usual...liked the snowball effect...

08 Glassmen...liked last years costuming and was a fun show...this year not really into the 'one' thing

09 Troopers...nice to see them back

08 Madison...this years show is a train wreck...

  5. Here is the information that I have been able to find out:

There is limited parking in the South Lot of Lucas Oil Stadium - including handicapped parking. All of the spots in this lot are $10 per day (charged by Denison Parking, the company that manages the lot). Enter the lot through gate 6 - I believe it is off Missouri Street.

That makes more sense to me.

So......from where I sit - once again DCI is NOT evil despite what you read on these boards.

    And DCP'ers often DO over-react.

But, never let facts get in the way of a good group rant. So, if you must, carry on.

I don't consider my comments here just a good rant. I was only telling what ACTUALLY happened. I have not voiced my opinion that DCI was Evil? I just feel they need to be a little more considerate with people that need assistance.

  6. Allentown is one of the best stadiums in the country for Handicapped folks. Premium seating is abundant and very easy to get accomodated. You just have to talk to someone and they dont even hassle you.

They wont even care of the decks are full they'll give you good seating.

Parking ? Ample parking for handicapped folks but the immediate lot only holds about 40 vehicles,.....but, they reserve the whole top street for handicapped folks and will drive you by cart to your seats.

    Geoffrey

(And go down to will call for you if you cant get your tickets)

I can't say we had that same experience....perhaps we did not speak with the right people is all I can say to that...

  7. I really think its a travesty for not providing handicapped parking LOS...BUT it does not surprise me at all!!!!

This has actually got me very mad and maybe I'm now overreacting, but this has been just a few of my experiences over the years with DCI...

In 1992 finals in Boston my mom had to sit in the endzone becaue there was no place for wheelchairs (she had cancer).

Last year at Allentown my father was denied access to the handicapped parking because it was full????( he could barly walk and had been in intensive care for 4 months of that year) I was also given VERY little assistance ahead of time by the DCI office.

This year at Annapolis they closed down the elevator, (we arrived early) so my father could not get to his seat easily.

AND for all the other handicapped people...WHY does DCI give you crappy seats? I have never seen a good seat for the handicapped yet at ANY event.

  8. I still think it will be:

    7) Boston

    8) Phantom

    9) Blue Stars

I really want to see a B Star type of move from BK and would love to see:

    7) Boston

    8) Phantom

    9) BK

    10) B Stars

Not crazy..... not probable, but we've seen some giant moves finals week... Biggest thing with BK is that their numbers never seem to settle... One show they beat B Stars in total GE and the next show in brass and percussion, but not at the same time.... If those were to lock in at the same time???? Like I said, it would be news, but it isn't the popular vote right now but stranger things have happened... More likely i could see Boston challenging Bluecoats for that 6 spot....

    Wes Perkins

    BK '97 '98

I really enjoyed BK's show this year....I can't say that I've always had that same opinion in the past(not my taste)...I wish them the very best come finals....

  9. How are any dynamics different when all judges except one, cover the same captions both nights?

Let me put this to rest. I was at the show and I know WHO Tony Dicarlo is as I marched with his son years ago and he was at the gate escorting corps onto the field and NOT judging the competition.

  10. I left this post over at BAC's forums earlier today....but thought it would be appropriate here also...

    To the 2009 Boston Crusaders,

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for such a fine performance Saturday at Allentown PA. Thank you to those guys/gals that remained with BAC from the previous year. Your maturity was very obvious Saturday night. I was so PROUD to be sitting there on the 50 right next to the press box cheering you on. You had a great show which moved me emotionally on many levels with the horn line having a VERY MATURE sound that projected extremely well to the press box. The color guard was gorgeous and sexy I might add...the drum line was just plain on FIRE and quite musical! You did not let the bad draw for Showtime effect you at all-you had the crowd in the palm of your hands for the 12 + minutes of that performance. It was definitely a STANDING O at the end of that show and not to be just a polite one either! You are definitely some of the best marchers on the field today.

I was also at Annapolis in the beginning of the season and I can see the MASSIVE improvement you made this season by huge LEAPS and BOUNDS. No matter where you end up at finals, you can be rest assured that you have made this former member and alumnus PROUD! You guys/gals are just terrific! If I was judging the Allentown show you definitely would have EARNED BOX 5 without a doubt.

To the Design Team, Brass Staff, Percussion Staff, Guard Staff and Visual Staff....Thank you so much for giving BAC such a well designed and thought out product from TOP to BOTTOM....and then having the ability to help them EXECUTE that great product. Thank you Tom Spataro for your great leadership! SPECIAL THANKS to whoever decided on the new uniform choice! Also thank you for the great costume choice for the guard and the really nice silks for the show. I really hope that this staff stays on with Boston because I see some really great things for the future of this group as you are definitely on the right path to the top.

Eat em' up Boston and best of luck at finals.

    Roger

    BAC Soprano 1990-91

  11. Well it look's like the ghost of Birney is still playing Allentown. During some of the corps performances you can hear some of the other corps warming up. Especially during the ballads. Now I've played at Allentown before and I know that the parking and warm up areas for the corps are limited but you would think something could be done to minimize the background noise. I know it's not the corps warming ups fault but it does kind of take away from the corps playing on the field.

I didn't look at the other posts, but I have to say that you hear it on the VODs because I heard it AT THE SHOW. I was on the 50 yard line right next to the judges in section R and you could hear the drums from other groups while the show was going on. It is my opinion that that staging area was way too close to the stadium.

I would also like to add that having gone to Allentown for many years now...the drums warm-up was definitely more distracting than usual. I'm not sure if the newer aluminum upper deck versus the old wood upper stands has anything to do with it or not...but I doubt it.

  12. Has anyone got the original start time line up , and possibly a list of judges for tonight ? And as always

good luck to all corps !!!! Nice topic header Silver King .:mad:

Hi guys...I'm in Allentown right now..started raining...does anyone know the revised show times?...this would be very helpful...

    thanks

  13. Company fronts become much more prevalent when the tick system went away. Think of how many ticks you would get when you have 50-100 corps members right in front of the judge trying to keep in step and in a straight line...true suicide back in the day of ticks.

Having been in a company front at the end of show WITH HIGH MARK-TIME...I always hate to see that camera that always looks down the line from the sidelines...I'm sure they try and avoid that camera view these days...

  14. really! have to look...

In reference to Cadets 1987...Just watched this on FN...I have a question about that soloist at the end....Was he really playing or doing a visual to make it look like he was playing? This is not meant to disrespect the musician whoever he is....
