  1. In an article to be released later this week, will be the official announcement of the creation of the Enchantment Drum and Bugle Corps from Las Cruces, NM. The intrest created by the first Drum Corps from New Mexico has brought us enough applicants to allow us to compete in Division I. Corps Director, Richard Fisher, said "it's been too long that students in New Mexico have not had an outlet for talented musicians to compete in the Drum Corps activity without traveling to another state. We welcome all students 16-21 to apply and our applications for auditions have already exceeded out estimates. We researched some of the schools in the state and found out that some of the smaller schools have not had a student in the activity for 20 years or longer." Richard also announced that Enchantment's show this year will be "Dream After Dream", music composed by Journey. This music was created by the band, Journey (S. Smith, S. Perry, R. Valory, N. Schon, G. Rolie), in 1980 for a movie soundtrack, of which an album was created. The music is very modern, orchestral - like, and transposed well to a "Drum Corps" arrangement. The show design will represent a fantasy like dream sequence of color, movement, and feel. Selections from the composition will be: Destiny Moon Theme Festival Dance A Few Coins Little Girl For additional info, please visit the "Enchantment" website at http://www.coppersunmedia.com/enchantmentcorps
  2. I am pleased to announce that the first Drum Corps of any kind from New Mexico, "Enchantment" will make their debut in Season XI. We are currently exploring ideas for our program, so there will be more to come. Since I am new to DCP-I, I am learning as I go and I'm looking forward to the season. Our website is http://www.coppersunmedia.com/enchantmentcorps
  3. I agree. Perhaps I'm biased, but I think (as I've mentioned before) Academy has the most elegant show this year! It was my daughter's first year and she's the only representative of the state of New Mexico in the Corps (sad...), but I know that because of her, there will be more from there next year. She has had the time of her life and she has thanked me and her mother countless times for letting her participate and she has vowed to return next year. I'm leaving for Albuquerque this afternoon and flying in to Indianapolis in the morning, and I hope we'll be seeing our Red and Black in the Semis. Whatever happens, congradulations to Mark, Brandy and all the staff for a great year and I look forward to sending my daughter back for next year. ACADEMY ROCKS!!
  4. I believe they have today and tomorrow for rehersals, and hopefully some last minute revisions that will give them that extra point here and there to get them into the semis. I'd really like to see my daughter on the field come Friday night.
  5. 78.20 Tonight. PC was down a bit, but still got us by .60. We need a good showing tomorrow night to carry them into finals week and bring morale up. I'll be happy to see them in the Semis on Friday next week. I'll be there!! Go Academy!
  6. BEST WISHES FOR OUR CORPS IN ROME, NY TONIGHT - Rock On ACADEMY!!
  7. I forgot about Arizona Sun... I was thinking there was another but I just couldn't place them. I spoke with my daughter after the Atlanta show, and the atmosphere was very jubilant. I could hear a lot of laughing and joking, and my daughter's spirits were high, even when the "extra rehearsal" rumor reared up. I know the kids are giving it their best, and I think they have gotten to the point that the judging and scores aren't what's important, but the activity and work/performance ethic is. No one doubts that the crowds like the show.
  8. I didn't hear from my daughter tonight, so I don't know what happened. As for AZ being DCI ignorant, when was the last time AZ had a corps? Sunset Regiment back in... '90? I think it was was about time. It's very strange to see that the Corps is working their butts off, and I'm sure the staff is tweaking the performances according to the judges critiques, but for some reason, it seems like no matter what they do, the judges keep hammering them. They drop an off day for an extra rehearsal, and their scores drop by .35? Academy is VERY young and they will have growing pains for the next couple of years. Everyone will say "they tried to bite off too much too soon", but if you don't challenge your organization, what are you accomplishing? I think they will go along the same route as Crown. It's taken Crown almost 10 years to be as close to the top as they are this year (given I don't remember what year they moved up), and I think a Championship is within their grasp in the next few years. It took Star of Indiana 7 years to get their Championship, so hopefully Academy will remain strong, and will continue to be watched by everyone. We still have 2 weeks to go, and anything can happen in 3 days at Bloomington. BTW, PC Scored a 79.?? something tonight, so the gap just got wider, unfortunately.
  9. The colorguard hasn't been using a complete set of show silks until today. Now that they have all their equipment, and 2 weeks to polish, I think we'll see a last minute surge.
  10. I agree. The show this afternoon was AWSOME. I think they have the most elegant show in DCI this year. My daughter is in the colorguard and although the whole corps is disappointed with the scores, they are happy comming off the field. .20 behind PC tonight?? - that was hard to swallow. Can we overcome a 5 point spread to make the finals....? I think so! I Believe!
  11. I know I'll probably get flammed for this one. My daughter is with The Academy, and their show is still seems incomplete, unfortunatly. I think they have something up their sleeve for San Antonio that will give them them that 3 or 4 point boost they've been needing. So if I had to pick, Blue Knights Crossmen Madison Scouts The Academy Yes, Im talking upset mode!! I'll be there!!
