No doubt! BD too, but it seems like there is more old Garfield/CBC/Cadets alums out there in key positions doing some amazing things with the activity.

I was thinking the same thing, but those Devils seem to stay close to home and look what that gets them!

I probably shouldn't add that the Kilts were dead by 1981....😁

    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    and never brought to mind?
    Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
    and auld lang syne?

Asked a Kiltie what he wore under his skirt once.

"A lot of pride" he answered.

ok this may sound weird but - 1973 Commodores.  First time I listened to it on the legacy CDs I'm thinking - 12th place corps....1973....might sound a little rough.  BUT holy cow!  What a show - I believe the legendary Jim Ott arrange some or all of the brass for that show.  I know the phrase "ahead of it's time" is overused to the point of being a cliche, but I think that year there were two - Stockton Commodores and Argonne Rebels with Fanfare For The New.

This is beyond a great call! Jim Ott arrangements before he became THE Jim Ott!!!!! Someone should create a library of Hall of Fame designers formative years. Either as performers or rookie designers. Let us see and learn the lineage of what we do.

Add Anaheim Kingsmen, Stockton Commodores. Don't forget us oldies. 😀

PC is in my mind, the absolute next first time finalist.

Like 73!!!!! But there was only California corps in finals that year. Commodores, SCV, AND Kingsmen. Mad respect to old school. No need for amplification, two pistons, or a pit

I hate the format of Allentown?  Why do they split it into two nights? Is it just tradition, or is there some other reason? I think the fact that judges have to leave room for the corps performing tomorrow leads to some funky stuff with the scoring that we don't see when everyone is judged together. Unfortunate that it has to happen right before Indy.

Not the same.  Just isn't.  Intonation and articulation isn't perceived the same way live, with ambiance.

Internet viewing and archive videos are a poor substitute for the moment... warts and all.

I remember watching Ferguson fracking all over the place at a live performance when I was a kid.  It was...

    AWESOME!!!  Real.

Where I live, I get to catch the Eastman Wind Ensemble with regularity.  Mistakes/imperfections every single performance.

It's fantastic.  Wouldn't trade real life for anything.

Next time you're at eastman, go up to that tick and say, "Awesome, thanks for keeping it real." I'm sure any professional would love that.

Crazy. I love the Bluecoats, but after what SCV just threw down, this show feels tame.

I just got on the page thinking...Am I missing something? Bloo's not holding the fire I saw when I saw them earlier...Glad other's are seeing as well.

and....I'm getting tired of all of the samples....I'm missing last years singer.

  9. Of all people to call this question! The original sound genius of drum corps! Maybe a more important question is, “is drum corps moving to a more processed sound?” And in fact, moving totally away from the incredible “State of the Art” recordings of the 80s. With the success of the recent top ensembles (primarily Bluecoats) it would seem the age of audio transparency is gone.
