You're still using hotmail?
Step #1 - drop Hotmail like yesterday's garbage, which is what it is. Hotmail and Yahoo Mail's spam filters are horrid. They don't block anything. I stopped using each service years ago. Gmail's got an excellent spam filter, and there are some other good free webmail programs. Look around and switch, is my advice.
...and Step #2?

Can't imagine why...

Personally, I know Hop and the other designers will make a decision that is well-reasoned and though-out because the uniform history is so important. If he wants to chance a change to such a beloved and long-standing icon of the corps to further the show, I personally can't wait to see what's in store.
Will I be embarrased or thrilled by what I see? Who knows... but I trust the man enough to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'll reserve judgement on whether it was worth it or not for finals night when we see it all come together.

Nope....
Oooooh, I think I know... starts with a "Schr...."?
I wasn't sure he'd make it through the summer. Glad he did!

Nope... a certain baritone player did it in 06 at quarterfinals. I will give you one guess, and one guess only as to who that was (you should know...it was such a 'that guy' thing to do...)
lol... I never knew! I don't feel so lonely now... was it... Tink?

I was lucky during my years marching to never have a serious injury during the competition year, but, I did have an episode where my pants (I would say that they were the same ones used 20 years earlier) decided that it was a good time to "split" (so to speak). Let's just say that it was good that we had done laundry the day before. At least I didn't have the experience one of our quads had when his pants "parted". Lets just say that he ignored the "dress code". He inspired standing ovations every time he marched towards the back sidelines.
...and THIS is fantastic.

That's quite a username you've got there.
Thanks... it was one of those defining moments in my life... so many hated or loved that door. But I think I'm the only one who actually clobbered it. :-)

Alright, I've got to do it...
In 2005, we performed at Westchester (pretty sure) where the stadium was open on one side to nothing but trees. When it got dark, that side of the stadium was pitch black. During Liquid a couple sets before the "fish", I slid left across the field right in front of The Door. Well, the side of The Door is freakin' black... so I'm flying across the field, looking through my contra, trying to find/pick out the door from the equally black forest beyond, when...
WHAM!
I bounced off and stood still for a split second, flipping out. Then, I was able to sprint backward with my horn up the whole time to catch up to the form before I hurt someone. But man, that was rough. The other contra guys ragged me the rest of the season. :) Good times.

Is this topic about a marching band at the Super Bowl?
Hey Mr. Boo! Huge fan!
Anyway, it looks like the thread has been hijacked and has become the "Everything Superbowl" thread. Cool with me... I was actually looking to see what DCP's reaction was to Christina's frack.
Question: what did the halftime designers use? Pyware? Freehand?

People worry that the current direction of drum corps has become too geared toward the art of it and not enough toward the money-making "ooo that was loud!" side of it. As awesome as the products that corps're churning out may be, it's hard for the uninitiated to get into it.
Stupid idea: Make all DCI corps do "football audience" shows except for two corps who are picked at random. They are allowed to be "artsy" that year. They can pass if they want to!

Thanks! That was awesome!

You know, every time I see a live show, I point out how much I LOVE the Boston Crusaders crisp uniforms with the chainy things...
And everyone around me goes, "Oh, yeah, uh huh... I can see that."
...
I need new friends.

I'll add Remembrance from Madison 90 and 98 to the list, though I do like the original quite a bit. Much of the jazzophonic stuff from the late 80s and early 90s sounds better with a drum corps treatment, methinks.
I'm 100% with you on this one!
Also like to add that Star 93's Medea does it for me, while the original doesn't... maybe it's the added percussion stuff that kicks it up a notch.

i think any new avenue to set drum corps apart from marchig band in the public eye is worth considering. cool idea! :-)

Hmmm...
Thread topic might need to be changed to "If You Were Robert W. Smith..."
WOOO!

Craig, you are awesome!
I am a band director and have been reading DCP for a couple years... one of the reasons local corps have gone down in number is because bands have been growing in schools over the past several decades. That's all well and good, but there's something to be said for music performing ensembles that are independent of the school system... I for one know that music educators like myself would be really excited if there was a local corps participating in your circuit! I'd send ALL my middle and high school brass and percussion kids to get in on a corps if one existed here.
The rent to own idea is PERFECT! It's how my program exists at all. Great idea!

I agree with the majority of posters here. I wouldn't trade my life-altering experience with Cadets, but marching in a DCA corps really showed me what drum corps should be all about. So if you can march DCI, do it. There's nothing like it. But if you can't, you won't regret coming home to DCA.
-
That's a cool idea! Don't know how it would work logistically with all the prelims and time of day of performances... who goes first, etc.
Also, this would assume that drum corps would never get any more members than it already has in these two organizations. If we turned the activity around and started welcoming new members into the DCI/DCA fold, combining the championships would be very difficult because eventually you would run out of time in a day to have all these performances... course that's not really a problem we'd have to worry about any time soon.
I dunno... but I do love the idea of supporting each other and saving money with a common stadium.

It's Crown 2009 and PR 2008... neck and neck for me.

DCA, here I come!
As much as I love the junior corps, I loooooove me some DCA just as much! Great organizations involved with DCA and I think that regardless of how the G7/DCI thing plays out, the Associates will be there for the die-hards. Nice thing about these guys is that you can always join up and participate... DCI alumni can't really jump into the uniforms again once they age out.
Oh, and *on-topic*: AmFlag, I enjoy your sense of humor.
Increased Perception of DCI as a League
in DCI World Class Corps Discussions

I think this would work, actually! It would really spice things up and that "slotting" thing would become much less of a bear.
But then, you forever lose the "local" and "youth" aspects of the activity, at least where DCI World Class is concerned. You'd have to have a corresponding "Minor League" (Open Class?), wouldn't you?
I think the only real way you could do the "draft" thing in the existing structure is with money or staff and other resources, not the kids/performers. The few lowest placing corps get a large share of the profits, pick from a staff pool for that year to help pump them up, etc.
