  1. Thanks to everyone for the advice that has been given. I understand that becoming a 'rock star' takes years upon years of work. However, every once and a while there is a break to make a little progress and to get your foot in the door so to speak. and I agree. if it had been me running this drum corps (something i am sure I couldn't handle) I would be calling up every corps director I know and everyone to get advice and I would make sure that I had someone on staff that had been around the block enough times to know what was going on. Oh well. Thanks again for the advice everyone, i guess I'll just have to continue working as usual.
  2. I have taught a few bands. I don't think this has ruined us, my point was mostly that we are just as upset as you all.
  3. I don't believe that he has crushed the desire of talented young adults. I believe that the opportunities still exist, and the highly motivated individuals that would have wanted to be a part of a drum corps still can be. I agree that this was a black-eye for the activity. Hopefully no one has been turned off to the activity because of this. Once again, my deepest apologies.
  4. So this is pretty clearly a puppet account.........That being said, you should know that I was one of the wonderful people listed as staff on the website. I have to tell you that we had our doubts from the beginning. As I have been preparing to teach and attending meetings (one even last night) I had been taking everything with a grain of salt and had always planned to have a backup plan for that summer (2011). I, however, as well as any of the other 'staff' that I know of did not realize the extent to how poorly it was being run. Just to be clear, all that it took to get on a 'staff' page was simply a quick email that said you were interested. He immediately posted you on the staff page and began to speak of all he had planned. I was never asked for a resume or references. I am all about teaching, and I am all about new drum corps, so it seemed like an alright place to start. Please understand that there were not very many people involved with this and that the "staff" of this hoax are just as (and probably more) upset as any and all of you. As always, I encourage you to take things with a grain of salt, and understand that the only truly informed person in this ordeal is Mr. Nagy. I am truly sorry for the mess this has caused and wish I had not been involved.
  5. I think it is interesting to note that most corps wouldn't have been able to come down the field in a full retreat block mostly because we were all in straight lines next to each other. The screaming trumpets came from several corps and that is an issue that I think should be addressed. As musicians, regardless of any sort of poor arrangement, the job is to relive and recreate the emotion and the music that the composer wrote. It is classless and wrong to play something entirely different. Chord stacking is one thing. Jumping an octave is one thing. Playing a screaming high note in the middle of a tuba soli is simply rude and inappropriate. I hope that in the future this doesn't happen. As for my opinion on the cadets....its their deal. I personally would have hoped they watched the video, but it is unneccessary to bash them for doing what they do every year. Turn around and leave when it is time to go. They do it like professionals and I think that it is appropriate and fits their corps. The Cavaliers, by contrast are laid back. It neither suprises me nor offends me that they would tease another show. It fits their corps. I personally like a mixture of the two, but both corps did exactly what they do and I wouldn't fault either
  6. I feel the need to let you all know that I totally agree with the reevaluation process, but thought it might be fun to discuss. There were things that happened in Capital's season in 06 that definately need to be brought up and settled (rumors or fact) After taking two years off of competition it is crucial that DCI re evaluate corps and make sure that they are ready to be considered world class again
  7. some one please correct me if i am incorrect. However, I believe that Capital Regiment (and any other corps in this position I may add) must return to open class because they have been inactive for a full year.
