  1. I played one at PASIC this year, they are pretty good sound wise. It just sounds like a small marching snare that has been cranked up. Also, I saw Jim Kilpatrick play on one a few years ago (was right next to his pipe drum), it didnt sound too different.
  2. I auditioned for the Reading Buccaneers in 2006, while I was still in HS. I decided to not participate because of time and I didn't really know what was expected, I just wanted to play my drum. Im auditioning at Carolina Crown this year, and I regret not marching EVERY SINGLE SEASON. While this year is not my age out, next year will be, and I envy all of those who have marched 3, 4, 5 or more years. Is it worth constantly running, doing push ups, sleeping on gym floors/coach buses? hell yes. I will never get over it if I do not march. Its almost like I HAVE to march. AT LEAST go to the audition camp, its money well worth spent.
  3. They're pretty nice. Our drumline instructor (at East Carolina) works for Mapex, so we got 2 snares (one shallow and one reg), one set of tenors, and one bass to demo for the season. They sound pretty nice, and I definitely like how they look. We may be getting them either next season or the one after, not too sure. As for sound though, IMO they compare to the Pearl Championships, Yamaha SFZ's and Dynastys used today.
