  1. Regiment has decided on a new percussion guy I'm surprised this isn't out already to be honest.
  2. I don't think this is entirely true. While you *might* be right about "keeping the judge out of position" the dirt that can be heard on videos of them is hardly limited to portions of the show where a judge would not be listening (i.e. drum features). And besides, watching them in 07 and this past year a few times throughout the season, I never heard any inconsistancy like you're mentioning.
  3. To those saying BD didn't deserve to win percussion this year, I encourage you to listen to the percussion judge tape (it's on... THAT website). I still don't understand... BD's lot videos this year and in 07 are usually downright hideous. But watching them live or listening to the percussion tapes, they always sound great. I really don't understand why that is. I agree with a previous poster that you can hear the melody in Crown's percussion book, but I'd argue that that alone is hardly a factor in determining "musicality." Just about anyone can write a book that lines up with the melody (or, in which you can "hear" the melody). In my opinion, Crown's book does that but no more. And I also agree with another poster, Phantom 07s drum book is one of the greatest ever, and currently my favorite.
  4. wow. "buzz roll books" -maybe it's just me, but I thought they played more than just buzz rolls. anyway, I think Phantom has the best book year after year. I also liked SCV's writing this year. I appreciate Crown for all the notes they played, but I don't think it was musical (just an opinion...) This year wasn't much different than any other year though, in my opinion.
  5. well to that I'd say that there were some clarity issues I heard in the tenorline as well from the recording. For example, the tenor solo where the guard members take their drums off? Not too good. sure, it's very demanding. But they shouldn't get much credit executed the way it was. And the brief tenor solo in the drum break (the drumset, snare, tenor call and answer thing). That's rough too. So the snareline was the most evident problem to me, but that isn't to say that the other sections didn't have their own problems. and another point. ever listen to the finals percussion tape for phantom in 07? how many ticks in the tenor and bass lines? 0. How about the pit? 0. Snares? like 4-5. What place did they come in? 3rd.
  6. i was wondering the same thing myself. that is, until I listened to the recording. i must say, it was much worse than I thought it would be. To be quite honest they were not clean in some very exposed moments (drum solo... yikes). Listening to that alone makes me wonder how they managed to ever be scoring higher. I guess it was just a rough performance? I don't know I wasn't on the line. But clarity was an issue for sure.
  7. well im sorry to bring this topic up again... but I've been looking and just can't find that egg. I would appreciate it if someone could pm me its location.
  8. As drum corps auditions are coming up in a few weeks I've been thinking a lot about whether or not, for me, it would be worth it to march this year. There are a few reasons I don't want to march, among quite a few others. Firstly, I really don't want to give up my entire summer. Second, I hate running. And pushups, and hot weather in general, and marching fundamentals, etc. It's a ton of money. I'm young, so I have quite a few years left, and I’m not sure I'm ready for that commitment and intensity. Then again, I've never met anyone who has regretted marching drum corps. So if I just put these issues aside and do it, do you think in the end it will be worth it? Or realistically is it wiser to wait a year or so?
  9. I think Spirit will be in finals again. I'm not sure why almost no one seems to remember them. Their average age last year was something absurd, like 17. And I've heard they have lots of guys going back so I think they'll be back in it.
  10. I'm not sure yet where I want to march. I don't really have any emotional or otherwise ties to the corps I'm considering, so I guess the best corps I can make I'll march with. The closet to me in terms of camps would be Spirit Boston Crusaders (florida camps) Southwind (if they come back) I'd really like to make finals though so I guess Boston it is, unless Spirit can get it together next year. They were very young this year so who knows.
  11. I like your order, especially with the non chapions from this year worked into the mix. What about 2006 Phantom? You had Cavaliers 2006 3rd but Phantom wasn't anywhere 4th to 13th. The spread was less than half a point. Just a thought. I don't think I'd have Cavaliers 2006 3rd in the first place, but what do you think?
  12. I had read earlier that the Bloomington recorders were very poor quality. So right now I'm about to stock up on some recordings and I want to know what the best buy is (phantom, BD, SCV....) So are the Bloomington recordings better or worse than the Allentown ones?
  13. What he said. And don't try to say Cavaliers 2002 wouldn't win or be top 2... just don't. We aren't talking about favorite shows, we're talking about design and execution.
  14. Seroiusly... 08 the weakest year? That's not going to fly on DCP, nor should it. And Cavaliers 2000 on the top? NOT a chance.
  15. Phantom Regiment was not undefeated this year (why do so many people say that?) When they went West to face BD and SCV for the first time in early July, they lost to BD a few times. For example, July 3rd in San Diego California BD-16.4 Phantom-16.3 SCV-16.2 There were a few others as well I think.
